since the isles have been doing well lately, does this mean we are unlikely to see the 1st overall pick?

i'm fine with that but i only fear of finishing at 9-13 place or getting quickly swept in the 1st round of the playoffs. would it be worth it? i think i'm in the minority to think we are only a few quality players away for next season to be super competitive. but that's just my opinion.

What do you all think?

Have no fear my friend...we will not come CLOSE to making the playoffs this year. This 3 game win streak has been fun but they will be in the bottom 3 of the league when all is said and done...

As long as teams feel like the Vancouver and Ottawa presses feel about us we'll have continued success. As soon as they take notice we wont be overlooked as nothing more than a schedule stop and wins will be much harder to come by.

Hate to tell you, but we may end up better than most people think.

That is the big question- is it better to tank it and get a high pick or play your heart out, finish in the middle of the pack and settle for a middle round 3rd liner?

I can't remember the exact details but it reminds me of when the Devils beat someone on the last game of the season and eneded up with Kirk Mueller instead of Mario Lemieux. Or something like that...

Anyway, this 3 game streak is no fluke and I think we will be a better than average team when all is said and done.

I guess you can't ask Gordon and company not to try their best, they're pros......

Hey, if the Islanders are so willing to trade down from 5 to 7 to 9 to land a player..Why should we tank just to secure a pick that we probably will once again trade down in order to land more picks in later rounds? I wouldn't have minded had the Islanders drafted say Josh Bailey at 16 last season. He probably would have been there on the board at 16.

I want Tavares...and all you fans ought to also otherwise this rebuild will go on forever...I hate to say that I want them to lose because thats not the case...I love how they have been playing recently its alot of fun to watch...But I think its in the best interest of the team to finish at the bottom and get a stud this season and then really turn it around next season when the youngsters from this season have a year under their belt...but it is fun to watch these guys win and prove all those condescending canadian reporters wrong.

Dear Chuckles, Garth and Gordo,

I 100% want this season thrown.

Drafting someone like Tavares can single handedly turn a franchise around.
On the ice, in the stands, and in the eyes of the league and media.
Having a potential star caliber player on the ice (something we haven't had in over a decade)
can immediately help to greenlight the Lighthouse project,
making Long Island a desireable destination in this league once again.

All it takes is a little damn success.
Just look at what one good season in 01-02 did for the atmosphere of
Islanders Hockey on Long Island.

Christ.

I say, tank this season, lose the dead weight, let the rest get healthy,
draft the kid, and come out the gate swingin like mad men next season.

Then, Cup finals 2011, here we come...

PS: Oh, and bring back Steve Webb...

Believe me, I know. And knowing our luck, we won't win it.

I'm just talking about getting in the best possible position to do so.

Thanks for focusing on the important parts of the post though.

If the Islanders have a top 2 pick in this draft and trade down, then Garth Snow will not see June 21, 2009.
