Maybe this is one of the reasons why the Isles play the kind of game they play. We can't be a fast team if the ice is bad. Read the link. They are just tearing the quality of the ice to pieces.

The ice at the coliseum has been terrible all year.

Last night especially, there were players flopping around all over the place for no reason.

Maybe that's why the team is cursed with all these crazy hip, ankle, knee injuries. Skates are getting caught in potholes out there.

Yeah Howie said it earlier in the year that the ice wasn't in good shape during one of the other games. Must be something to it.

Those excusing chucking pansies... The Islanders had to play on the same ice. As if bad ice is good for the Isles system of over-speed. Is this a real newspaper or is it a blog? I can't tell the difference and the writing obviously isn't very good...

Either way they need to stop whining about their team. You like apples? It stands that, as of last night, indeed, the 2008 NYI are the better team head to head. How about them apples? Hahahah (apple reference attributed to grandpa).

Blogs are more about personal opinion and you should expect more bias. Whatever happened to objectivity in journalism? I guess the blogs are winning in popularity so newspapers are following suit. I hope it is part of the last gasp for air of modern media.

Sir Ian,

I’ve been a hockey fan since the age of 7 when I went to the first Islander game at the Coliseum
back in 1972. I’ve played, coached and continue to enjoy hockey, probably more than the average
hockey fan, as it’s always been my passion.

I read as much online about hockey as humanly possible to get other teams perspectives
And I have to say the arrogance and level of self entitlement that comes across from the
Vancouver media is a complete joke.

As a fan, I get it. My Islanders are a joke. However, in your article you blame the ice?
Did the ice make 31 saves? Did the ice outhit the Canucks 28-17?

You are a very good writer and I enjoy your articles but the bottom line,
there is more parity in hockey and that’s why games are won on the ice and not on paper.

My Islanders weren’t lucky. That same ice that flubbed chances for your Canucks, was the same ice
that prevented clean shots off loose rebounds in the slot in the 1st period.

Over the years, I’ve noticed a pattern amongst the western Canadian media, specifically those covering the Canucks.
Reading it daily, weekly and yearly you’d be inclined to believe they’ve won 24 Stanley Cups.
Problem is, they’ve been in the league around 38 years and won none while the team that has won 24 resides in Montreal.

The fact that a team based around 3,000 miles away and south of the Canadian border has won 4 and their cross town rivals have also won
4, each winning one against the “Mighty” Canucks in the finals has to be a sore point for Canucks fans. Particularly when the one playing on bad ice last night has done that in 2 fewer seasons.

You should have added "booya-kasha" to the end. Excellent email.

The Islanders were lucky to be down only one goal at the first intermission.

Lucky this writer says?! Because the big bad Vancouver Canucks will the puck into the net with the magic of Sedin twins.

If the Lighthouse project is going to take forever, I think that during the off-season Wang should at least try to get the ice replaced. We may actually have an Islander team with fewer injuries then.

To be honest, the last few years, the ice has gotten worse. But again, both teams play on the same ice.

When puck wobble and can not stay flat only a few minutes into a period, you know there is something wrong in this state...

NEVER SEEN A COMPLAINT AGAINST THE ICE AT THE NVMC
WONDER IF ITS SOMETHING NEW THEY ARE DOING

Gotta disagree with you there. Criticizing the ice at NVMC is nothing new. It has always been considered one of the poorer ice surfaces to play on. One of the issues from what I've read in the past is that they haven't updated the refridgeration unit in a long time and thus, it does give a consistent temp to the ice. Apparently, the refridg unit fluxuates as much as 5 degrees and that effects the quality of the ice.

In addition to that, let's face it...it is easier for candian rinks to keep a cooler air temp because it is cold there more often. However, with the "pristine" ice conditions they apparently have always had in Vancouver, I haven't seen it help them win a cup...EVER!!!!

SI and other magazines have done surveys of players on ice quality and the rink that has always come up first is Edmonton.

The rink that has consistently come in last is MSG...and that is easy to figure out. Does the place ever go unused?

Worst boards was Washington...have you ever seen a game there where the glass doesn't pop out?

As far as what Vancouver's press says...who gives a @#$%. Bunch of whiny Canadians that only get to see the Cup when someone else lifts it.
