When was the last time we saw an Islander in the top 20 in scoring. With two assists yesterday Weight now is averaging a point a game. An area that's become all to foreign for an Islander and for us as fans. He said at the beginning of the year that he wanted to prove last year wasnt Doug Weight, and he's backed that up with points in 6 straight games and 21 in 21 games. He seems to be happy here and is producing, so I toast Doug Weight. A good signing for his leadership and contributions. ![]()

Great stuff Nick. Here here! But judging from this photo and Bergie's facial expression, seems the secret to Weight's success might just be his disregard for wearing deodorant. That might explain how he gets free all the time?

i'm tempted to drop federov to make room for weight on my fantasy team. but i already have Streit and Hunter. Dammit. Still, good for the Isles. 10 pts away from 1,000- let's make it happen

The best part is this was blown off as far as free agent signings go. Not only is he playing great, but he's providing the Islanders with consistent star scoring that was seriously lacking last year. Our defense and goaltending is solid, and if Doug can continue to be the true first-liner that we didn't have last year, then this team can legitimately go for the playoffs. |

Yes - and when all of the doubters and naysayers were picking on Garth for this move... I truly felt, that paired with his best friend, that the numbers would be good. Give Mr. Snow a here-here, for rolling the dice, and getting the seven (or eleven, depending on which combo you like best...) |

I'm more impressed by his 17 assists. Hunter lead all Islanders last year with just 29 assists. Barring a disaster, Weight should easily eclipse that. |

He's going to make all of that 4+ million in his incentive laden contract. Who knows... Maybe it is good to leave incentive for cash on the table when signing players... We know giving them the cash and years doesn't seem to work. And on a nice note, I am extremely happy with Weight and think he will/should be our All Star this year. I think I am seeing his patience with the puck rubbing off on some other players too which is exactly what they want him to do.. lead by example. |

the better he plays the more we will get at the trading deadline... i fully expect him to be unloaded unless somehow the islanders are ranked 4th in the conference... |

Not to take anything away from Doug, but its also very impressive that currently, Joey MacDonald is tied for 6th in the league in wins. |

Weight has been the second most pleasant surprise of the season thus far. (Big Mac is #1). He's been a great leader, sspokesman, and playmaker. A great signing so far. Weight the great? |

Weight is going to be like Guerin for me, how will he play in the second half when the games and the icetime start to add up. |
