The Islanders are amazing.  They will somehow keep winning games and play themselves out of a top pick.  We will end up somewhere near 8 or 9. This pick won't make it and that leads me to my next rant.  What's the problem in this organization?  Either we are horrible at analyzing talent or we are horrible at developing them.  Probably a lot of both.  It drives me nuts seeing our guys only as 3rd or 4th liners and the Rangers, Devils, and Wings constantly developing studs.

You're saying that an 8 or 9th pick wouldn't make it. What are you talking about? Bailey is just one example, this kid looks great. There are many other examples, Franzen, Datsyuk. More than I could post on this page. The Bailey pick is starting to look great for Snow.

It's too early to tell, only 8 games.

But I wouldn't return Bailey to Juniors, might as well keep him aboard.

Bailey does look good and I see no reason to send him away. What I am saying is, on this team, talent does not come around often. Our top picks never seem to make it while Ranger and Devil 20 something picks seem to become stars. there is a reason for this. I just can't figure it out yet.

After the Pens game, I wouldn't worry about the Isles winning themselves out of the top 5-10 picks.

because in another thread I listed the Isles, Devs and Rags 1st round picks going back more than a decade.

While the Devs had Parise, I'm still waiting to see who the Rags took that was a difference maker.

And if you can only name 1 Devil of impact taken in the first round in a decade, is that anything to brag about as well?

:isles: What about Scott Gomez. Also I think Travis Zajac was number one but not and impact player yet.

You are correct about Gomez. He was taken 27th in 98. The website I went to did not have him listed in the first round. t/y for the correction.

As for Zajac, jury is still out on whether he will be an impact player. 42 points is a career high for him.

And Gomez has only topped 70 points once (84 pts). Nice but hardly the stuff of a perenial all-star.

We can nitpick, but I think it's been proven in this thread that the Devils and Rangers don't pick particularly better in the first round than the Isles do.

I really didnt mean that the Rags and Devs picked better in the first round. I meant overall they have had better results with their picks regardless of the round. It may not be the draft. It may be the Islaes development of them too.
