Not necessarily. I wouldn't be surprised to see them get offer sheets to extensions a year before their deal expires...especially if they put up numbers. Other thing to consider is they will be Restricted FA's which means the Isles will have the right to match any offer or get draft picks as compensation...and depending upon how much the offer is, that effects the number and round of the picks. |

It's obvious a long term deal must be given to JB Based on Isles History you already get the feeling a guaranteed HOF

I wasn't on board with Bailey either. I wound up warming up to the reason why they traded down to get the extra picks, but didn't warm to Bailey until I saw him make that pass to Campoli in OT against Montreal. That is a pass that very few players can complete successfully. I agree he's definitely surpassed KO as far as our young players go. He's the top dog right now no doubt about it. And also, I'm not surprised at all about Nielsen. Last March when I saw him play in Bridgeport I wound up leaving that game thinking that he was our best prospect. Even made a thread about it. That included KO and Tambellini who played in the same game, and Comeau who was on the Island at the time. I think Nielsen is going to be a really good player in this league. Still not sure what kind of a goal scorer he's going to be, but definitely a huge blow losing him for 3 months. |

Wouldn't it be terribly sad if Okposo isn't the player they hoped he'd be?

Okposo may never be the goal scorer some might envision him to be, but he'll turn into a terrific power foward who will have a strong all around game, with his strength carrying and protecting the puck like a good power forward should, hitting and have the ability to score. His defense is pretty good for a 20 year old also. I have no worries about the type of contributor Okposo will be. He's never going to score 40 but there should be many years of him scoring 25. |

I can see him being great in front of the net. He has great hand eye coordination (for deflections) and ability to control a pass well. He will be very dangerous down low when the game slows down a bit for him, meaning he gets some more experience. |

Webb, I think it's premature to say that he'll NEVER score 40 when we all saw Jason Blake score 40 goals. The guy has all of the tools to be a goal scorer. And we all know that power forwards take just as long to develop as defensemen do. With the type of speed he has, the type of shot, and the size to go along with it, I can see him being a perennial 30 goal scorer. Is that a guarantee? Absolutely not because he's going to need to put in a lot of work over the next 3 years. It will definitely help him that Bailey will be getting him the puck also. |

I agree Snowy.....its far too premature to say KO won't net 40. Time will tell. I am expecting him to be a significant offensive contributor. At least in the 60 to 70 point range. That's at the very least. Maybe not this year but that should be his potential. |

No I in team, but there is an "m,e".

And contrary to what Garth Snow said when the Island got K.O., the U of MN is a fine hockey program. 2 national championships since 2000 says a lot more then Garth's comments about the coaching. Something that still pisses me off. Kyle will be great all around player. I think Boston's happy with their Gophers. Go Gophers!! Go Islanders!!

No offense, but go tell U of M's coach to stfu. As I recall, it was he, not Garth, that went public and badmouthed the Islanders for signing Okposo. Garth RESPONDED to the coach's comments, not instigated them. If U of Minn fans don't want to hear their coach or program spoken about negatively, tell the coach not to throw the first stone. KO was not happy as a soph at U of Minn. That was public knowledge. He wasn't happy about being moved to center and neither were the Isles. They wanted him to continue to develop at the position he's play in the pros. To GArth and the Isles credit, they didn't say anything about that when they signed KO. It was after U of Minn's coach badmouthed the Isles that they responded with the "we didn't like how he was being developed and felt he wasn't progressing in his soph year". Now, the Isles have one of their top picks from last year's draft playing D at the U of Minn. Hopefully, things will go well for him there. I've always liked U of Minn's program. they turn out plenty of fine players, but lets face it, there are times when even good people and good players aren't happy at good programs and still turn out fine. I don't think it hurt Paul Karyia to leave U of Maine early. Personally, I didn't care for what the coach said about the Isles org. or how the media tried to spin it. Did anyone else notice that last year 4 other franchises signed kids who played DI hockey in the middle of the NCAA season including the Buffalo Sabres and holier than thou Montreal Canadians??? Didn't hear the media go on about those signings or the coach's of those programs bash the NHL team for signing them. Lovely double standard. |

They could pull up a chair next to those who were crying about letting Dubie go for Joey Mac last spring...oh wait, in many cases they've be sitting next to themselves since most of last springs anti-Joey Mac's were also crying about the trade down. |

I think we ALL cried foul, at the time, when Garth traded down both times to select Bailey. But as Oldislesfan says, that's why the hockey people are making the decisions and the fans are not. |

Can we just take a step back and realize that it's been 10 games for Bailey and we can't declare that he's going to be better than anyone who was taken before him? 10 games! |

Twas the night before Christmas and all over Long Island... Puckhead and fasty were pouring cold water all over Isles fans hopes and dreams just teasing.Yes, 10 games is not enough to say...he's a sure thing. But what is a sure thing is this kid has the talent to potentially be something we can all enjoy watching. That was my problem with Robert Nillson, Nolkie and Bergie...I did not see the type of talent from those three that made them legit first round picks. Honestly, I thought Bergie was the best of the three and was at best a second round selection. There is no doubt that Bailey has more talent than those three and in my mind will have a better nhl career barring injury than those three players. Does this mean Bailey is a sure thing or better than those drafted prior to him in 08? No. But he is a positive piece to the puzzle and these 10 games have shown us more glimpses than we've seen with some of our other "prospects" including Franz, Tamby and others. |
