Having Streit and Weight has helped the pp tremendously.

But if we don't score on the 1st unit, we might as well forget the rest of the pp. Why is Gordon putting Hilbert, Park and Sim as the 2nd power play unit? This is confusing. Are we seriously expecting them to do any damage? Look at their career records - that doesn't lie.

Personally, I am tired of Sim. I would not only take him off the pp, I would take him out of the lineup and put in someone from Bridgeport like Trevor Smith or Jonseuu.

The biggest mystery of all, though, is why Hunter is not on the pp at all. He's been the best forward and has the most goals on the team. Shouldn't he be on the pp, too? Why not put Comeau on the 2nd unit? He was our best player last night and was hitting and creating chances. He and Sillinger belong on that 2nd unit moreso than Sim, Park and Hilbert.

Sim is a 4th liner on a very good team that is playing 3rd line for us. Saying he should be replaced by Smith of Jesse doesn't make much sense. His role is to go into corners, clog up the middle and be physical at both ends of the ice...something that is not in the player descriptions of either Smith or Jesse...at least not yet.

If you are bringing either of them, especially Jesse, up to the Island, it should be with the expectation to compete for second line minutes, not third.

Until they are ready for that, let them stay where they are, play 20+ minutes a night and continue to develop.

Jesse will get here soon enough.
I miss these :cup: :cup: :cup: :cup: and want more of them

You are missing the point. Sim and the others I mentioned do not belong on the 2nd unit power play. They will not succeed with that as the 2nd unit. I would rather bring up the youngsters. Ease them in with 3rd line minutes and put them on the 2nd unit of the pp. If it fails with these youngsters, I would not mind since this season is a rebuild. And my main question is why isn't Hunter on the pp? He could set a screen in front of the goalie and dig pucks from the corner.

We have too many of the same type of players: Sim, Thompson, Jackman, Bergie, Park. We sorely need some skill added to this lineup. Whats the harm in experimenting with the youngsters? That was teh main purpose behind this season, no?

hunter has been on the power play, don't recall if he was lastnight. Do agree that comeau should be on the powerplay, but, given that this was the first game up, doubt he will be put out there unless he proves something to gordo.

I agree that Hunter should be parked on the crease on the PP on the second unit. Hilbert's strength is on the PK and even strenght, same with Park. I cant argue with Hunter, Sillinger and Comeau as that second unit. Gordon seems to do the right thing in the end and I'm confident Hunter/Comeau will get there. I miss Nielsen and KO. I doubt you'd see Hilbert on the PP if they where in the lineup.

The problems aren't that Hilbert or Sim or anyone else is on the second unit. It's that they have players past their prime who aren't good enough anymore to gobble up the first unit minutes.

And I disagree that it's better with Weight (no different than having Satan there). They constantly have to defend against odd man rushes with him out there because he plays the point with a forward's mentality. He constantly gets caught pinching too aggressively on the PP.

Three to four months and this nightmare will be over. Then we can celebrate Tavares. And bring back Lavy while we're at it. The system stinks -- it stinks because he has no personnel to play it.

Shooter, You've been saying it all along, go young and I'm with you. I think I can live without Witt, Sillinger, Sim and Martinek should Garth decide to move them for future considerations like a prospect or a pick and replace them with players already in our possession. At least until some of the younger talents we draft can fill them.

I'd definitely keep Guerin and Weight. They are good veterans to have and they still contribute.

And Weight and Satan may have the same liability at the point but the biggest difference is how productive Weight has been on the PP to Satan's impotence. In recent years for this team, Weights production is in the stratosphere for PP production. What does that tell you. :bag:

I'd like to see them experiment with Andy Sutton parked in front of the net looking for deflections and rebounds while screening the goalie on the power play. When he got out of the box the other night and ended up feeding Hunter for the goal I was inspired to think he might have some ability in front of the net.

Sutton ala Chara!

I agree, can't hurt - we know he wont be on the power play while playing defense.

As far as Hunter, he has been used on the top power play unit.

Bringing up Joensuu doesn't make sense at this point. Hilbert, Park and Sim are on the PP because of the lack of players. Injury does that to a team.

I don't agree with bringing back Lavvy either. If the system doesn't work because of a lack of personnel, then a new coach won't fix things, only new players.

Good point, Webby. I completely forogt that those two (Franz and KO) are out with injuries. I imagine they would be on the 2nd unit had inuries not got in the way.

But, please no more more Sim, etc. on the 2nd unit. I think with Sillinger, Hunter and Comeau, we have a better shot of success.

Missing KO, Nielsen and Comrie is the main reason you see Park, Sim and Hilbert getting power play time. On top of that, this team isn't particularly talented or offensively threatening in the first place.

I have no complaints on our powerplay. None.
That is an area where we have stunk for a long time and we finally have a system
that creates MOVEMENT and generates chances. yes we have injuries and the talent pool is diluted but it's nice to see some creativity out there.
