I thought by now someone else (ZIGGY!) would have posted this, but it looks like the islanders have head eveyrone's cry that 94.3 can't be heard very far and have increased their coverage with additional (very small) stations.

article on main website.

Good news.

If we're going to bash em for what we deem as incompetence we should praise them them for efforts like this.

NYI Radio Network Expands Reach
Long Island, Brooklyn and Connecticut affiliates join Network
New York Islanders
Dec 8, 2008, 11:35 AM EST

The Islanders have reached agreements with WLNG-FM 92.1 on Long Island, WKRB-FM 90.3 in Brooklyn, WSTC-AM 1400 and WNLK-AM 1350 in Connecticut to expand the reach of the Islanders Radio Network.

“The Long Island Radio Group has been a solid partner delivering a tremendous amount of promotion in addition to their game coverage,” said Islanders President Chris Dey. “Adding stations in eastern Long Island, New York City and Connecticut continues to broaden the Islanders Radio Network and each station is excited to work with us to promote the Islanders in their primary coverage area.”

In addition to game coverage on terrestrial radio, the Islanders Radio Network includes XM Satellite Radio and www.newyorkislanders.com <http://www.newyorkislanders.com>  on the internet, where all Islanders games can be heard.

“To hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers, the New York Islanders are more than just a professional hockey team. They represent a spirit and legacy unmatched by few sports teams. I’m from Connecticut originally, and grew up a hockey player and an Islanders fan,” said Dave Widmer, President and General Manager, Long Island Radio Group. “It’s important that the Islanders Radio Network reaches not only Long Island, but as much of the surrounding area as possible. I couldn’t be more proud to have 94.3 WMJC as the anchor of this network.”

All Islanders games will be heard on WKRB in Brooklyn, while WLNG will carry all Islanders night games, and WSTC and WNLK will carry all Saturday night games in Connecticut.

“We are proud to bring Islanders hockey to our listeners,” said Robin Faller, Vice President and General Manager, Cox Radio in Connecticut. “The Islanders are one of the premiere franchises in the country’s biggest market, and we are thrilled to be on the team.”

The expansion of the Islanders Radio Network comes less than a month after it was announced that a 30-minute pre-game show was added on MSG Plus before every Islanders game. During the summer, MSG Plus and the Islanders also launched “Islanders Illustrated”, a 30-minute television show covering the team from all angles.

Get a grip people. The Brooklyn station is the Kingsborugh Community College station and has a broadcast power of a staggering 10 watts. That's right; 10.

This org. continues to be a joke.

Living in Jersey I never get to hear the Islanders, which is frustrating. All I ever get are Devs and Rags. The Islander stations are just static, too far away. I was hoping for a major market station in NYC so I could catch them.

Gee, dlk1, 10 posts and we need to get a grip and we're a joke?

Maybe, but we love our "jokes" around here and we do have a grip.

Lighten up, this is good news.

......unless you're not near a computer. Which I'm not when I jog, do laundry, run errands, in a car. All of which I sometimes do as I'd like to listen to a game and can't because this joke of an organization doesn't let me hear games on free radio even though I live 20 miles from where they play.

Next week, they'll announce they're broadcasting out of C Dey's basement as the "new" station. And some will think it's a good thing.

I am still working on that for you, I used to have a link saved with 1000's of stations to stream when I had my cingular 8525. I am still looking for it for you.

As far as the Radio, they are a joke because they are listening? Baby steps folks....

The contract with Bloomberg wasn't renewed for this very reason - signal reach/penetration.

Once again I have a solution for you when you jog do errands or are in your car.

IT'S CALLED AN XM RADIO 2 GO.

You'll never miss a game or anything else related to hockey again.

I have mine on all the time, especially on the softball field during playoffs.

its very easy to listen to the Islanders on the radio or watch them on tv or even go their games if you really want to. I think some Islander fans really need to calm down a bit and stop putting the organization down everytime they try and do something just to make you happy. Yeah, the team sucks, we know that. Yeah, they suck for 25 fn years, we know that too. Just for once, less stop with the fn jokes and just SUPPORT THE DAMN TEAM.

Who am I, Trump? Wang? We all don't have disposable incomes to spend on yearly satellite radio subscription rates and gadgets JUST to hear hockey only to listen to the other team's announcers on the road as well as no pre-game or post-game show.

I'm sure your suggestion was trying to be helpful but the point is it shouldn't be this difficult to follow a team. The radio situation is ridiculous.

I agree with you.

sorry Dee, he makes a very good point.
Shouldn't be this difficult to follow our team by going through extra work and spending money
on gadgets.

The added stations are baby steps for certain regions previously shut out, but ultimately,
a major station with broader range is what would make us all happy.

The Blackhawk fans went for years without home games being televised, so we're not the only fanbase with qualms.
