The Islanders want the fans to let them know where you are when you lose the radio signal...so they can try to make improvements...for instance...I was on the LIE exit 39 and I lost the signal...or I was in the Coliseum parking lot and all I get is static and jamaican music cutting in and out. I give them credit for trying what they can to improve the situation and getting more station added...but they did not do their homework before signing-up. Now they want the fans to do the testing for them. Can you hear me now? I live in Queens...so I soon as I get a chance I'll test this new Brooklyn 10 watt station to see how it works...but 10 watts will only get you so far. As far as XM is concerned, for those that have it, I have noticed that they do not broadcast the post game show...and they cut away to play some other game in progress. The other factor like someone else pointed out...is that XM is not free...and not everyone has satellite radios...so it's a little presumptuous to think that fans can afford to go out and upgrade to satellite and then incur additional monthly fees...especially in this economy. Too bad the Islanders didn't do the research ahead of time before signing with this radio station. |

great insight and this post shows this radio situation affects everyone differently. For me, in eastern suffolk, I'm ok with it. But many fans have same issues as before. Watch Chris Dey go out and offer FREE XM radios for fans who purchase second half season tix. |

XM is costing me $12 a month and the radio was a Christmas gift two years ago. I wouldn't live without it. for $12 a month, i webstream it all day long, listen in the car, on the go and at home when I plug it into my TV. Maybe I don't think it's such an expense because I don't spend money on things like cigarettes or daily starbucks. |

Me either. I have Sirius, just to listen to Stern and music stations. I wouldn't pay more for XM stations now after merge. Listening to NHL on radio doesn't appeal to me. Have better things to do with my time. But the convenience of having a clear radio station broadcasting your favorite teams game is something that we as fans, I guess, shouldn't have to spend extra time and or money on. Rereading this whole thread really puts things in perspective and maybe going forward the org will even deal with a lesser profitable or even losing business decision to show fans they care more about them than their business forecasts.

Lexhair, Isles Goal and Steve: thanks for standing up and agreeing that the radio coverage for this supposed major league franchise is a joke. As far as the Bloomberg signal was concerned, not only could I clearly hear it throughout the tri-state area, but as far as Syracuse and last year in Buffalo when my son was at a Bantam tournament. The signal was fine. It was the price the team had to pay that was the issue. Dey said so... So now they will pay by sinking further into oblivion. And as for complaining after only 10 posts, rest assured that Webby and Steve can vouch that I go back on-line with them as far back as the old MSG forum. I lived through the dynasty and it kills me to see what this once proud franchise has become: A cog in a continuous real-estate speculation. Bottom line is that hanging with the players and getting to call Snow by his first name as if he's an old school pal is no substitiute for a winning team backed by a competant GM and Owner. Last thing regarding my 'support' of the team: I am a full-season subscriber who gets to about 35 games a year and travels from New Jersey to do it. |

dlk...IMO people miss the point when they say people are not supporting the team. Although the Franchise may have good intentions...at times they continue to fail...when they do things like this radio deal...and thus THEY fail to support the fans. They obviously did not do the research before signing the deal. Had they done that in advance...they would have realized that they were about to hang their fans out to dry. Surely...they should have...at the very least...known about the low bandwidth issues. Sure they tried to save money...but think about all the effort they are putting into it now...that is surely costing them more time and money. As far as the fans are concerned...not everyone can afford a monthly fee for XM radio...nor should they be expected or forced to purchase a radio and pay monthly subscription fees. Regardless though, now you can't even listen to the post game show on XM anymore...so once again we the fans get screwed. This situation is not a matter of just a few fans getting screwed...it's about most fans getting screwed. What ever happened to "We're All Islanders"? |

The more I read this, the more my blood boils. I now remember this debate when they first announced the 2 station (am and fm) deal. many complained that hey couldn't even hear the game in the parking lot. then Chris Dey started posting on another site trying to get in touch with fans. Sucks that this was the best they could do. Chris Dey may be working hard, but it's hardly working. |

What am I, chopped liver? I've been blasting this radio coverage joke all over internet NYI sites including here. You're correct, Dey didn't want to pay Bloomberg or the going rate for any AM radio coverage. He just saw savings and a business forecast and ignored the fans. And now it's pissing fans off more than he ever thought as less fans are interested. He'll pay double to get them back. If NYI can't be bothered having their games heard on radio by people where I live, why should we support them? Even though I shlep to 20 games every year from Westchester (Shooter can vouch for that) I wouldn't blame anybody for not supporting NYI. It's all about the real estate for Wang/Dey. |

Me either. Your last paragraph is the whole crux of this issue. "maybe going forward the org will even deal with a lesser profitable or even losing business decision to show fans they care more about them than their business forecasts." Even when the business forecasts had disastrous repurcussions. But that's assuming C Dey learns. I'll have to see it to believe it. The thing that annoys me the most is the lousy radio deal was chosen. I can live through lousy player personnel moves, coaching changes, GM changes as that's all hit or miss. The radio mess was cut and dry and they chose not to pay for a strong station and annoy the fans. |
