I'm saying that our picks are usually high and don't make it and the Rangers/Devils have low picks and they seem to always have good young talent... that can score.

That just isn't accurate.

Islanders Picks
1992: Darius Kasparaitis (5th overall)
1993: Todd Bertuzzi (23rd overall)
1994: Brett Lindros (9th overall)
1995: Wade Redden (2nd overall)
1996: Jean-Pierre Dumont (3rd overall)
1997: Roberto Luongo (4th overall) & Eric Brewer (5th overall)
1998: Michael Rupp (9th overall)
1999: Tim Connolly (5th overall), Taylor Pyatt (8th overall), Branislav Mezei (10th overall), & Kristian Kudroc (28th overall)
2000: Rick DiPietro (1st overall) & Raffi Torres (5th overall)
2001: None
2002: Sean Bergenheim (22nd overall)
2003: Robert Nilsson (15th overall)
2004: Petteri Nokelainen (16th overall)
2005: Ryan O'Marra (15th overall)
2006: Kyle Okposo (7th overall)
2007: None
2008: Josh Bailey (9th overall)
It isn't that the Isles didn't draft well when they were in the top 10. It was simply that they didn't hold on to many of them...

Rangers picks
1992: Peter Ferraro (24th overall)
1993: Niklas Sundstrom (8th overall)
1994: Dan Cloutier (26th overall)
1995: none
1996: Jeff Brown (22nd overall)
1997: Stefan Cherneski (19th overall)
1998: Manny Malhotra (7th overall)
1999: Pavel Brendl (4th overall) & Jamie Lundmark (9th)
2000: none
2001: Dan Blackburn (10th overall)
2002: none
2003: Hugh Jessiman (12th overall)
2004: Al Montoya (6th overall) & Lauri Korpikoski (19th)
2005: Marc Staal (12th overall)
2006: Bob Sanguinetti (21st overall)
2007: Alexei Cherepanov (17th overall)
2008: Michael Del Zotto (20th overall)

Where have these Rangers standout picks come from again? Who is the guy from this list of 1st rounders that has been an absolute standout? Staal has been a good dman so far but he's far from a standout yet.

1995- Sykora
1996- Lance Ward
1997- JF Damphouse
1998- Mike Van Ryan
1999- Ari Ahonen
2000-David Hale
2001- Adrian Foster
2002- Anton Kadeykin
2003 Zach Parise
2004 Travis Zajac
2005 Nicklas Bergfors
2006 Matt Corrente
2007 Mike Hoeffel

Who have been great contributors for the devils on this list? Parise and???

Just goes to show...even with the Devils, Cups are won in rounds 2-5 of the draft.
I miss these :cup: :cup: :cup: :cup: and want more of them

Yeah.... Tambellini's a sad case right now.

But remember Hilbert last year?  How's he doin' now?

I guess we can hope and pray.

except Hilbert got a ton of chances and just didn't finish. Tamby can't even get himself into position for scoring chances.

It's like he's enjoying a public skating session at Newbridge Rink

Plus Hilbert always contributes on the D side of things, especially the PK, so his contributions, even when he's not scoring, is big to the team.

I dont think I even heard Tambellini's name mentioned last night.

I thought I heard his name mentioned during intermission for a promo. Where the parent pushes his kid on the ice and tries to get him into the net.

My take on Tambellini remains the same. He is the new Jeff Hamilton. Tears it up in the AHL, can't find his game in the NHL. Last night vs. the Pens, he was visible for 1 shift, but at usual, he skates in the offensive zone, somehow finally finds the puck on his stick and just throws it at the net without a seconds thought or any iota of a plan for where that shot may go. It's like he is skating around at shying away from hits or dirty work. You rarely see him battle along the walls. He NEVER stick handles- and I know he can - he showed it on a few occasions last year.

Maybe he needs to get one in and that will open the flood gates - you never know. But right now, he seems like a failed experiment. I am all for him getting a little more time, but my patience - like most fans- is wearing thin. I hope he turns it around because he has that potential.

As for Andy Hilbert as some people were ragging on, he brings alot to our game. He is very solid defensively and a strong penalty killer. He pots one now and then and misses alot of chances, but he wasn't expected to be our sniper. He is a role player and a damn good one. If you truely understand the game, understand the use of lines vs. the opposition, you should see this. I understand the frustration when he has a golden opportunity and simply falls down or shoots wide, but ask yourself this: How does he wind up with all those chances? The answer - he earns them. First liner? No - never. But a reliable 3rd liner and PK'er. Winning teams need these.

Hilberts game reminds me alot of Claude Lapointe's game. If you were around back in the day when you had Claude and Jason Blake on the same line, you'd loose your mind on how many 2 on 1 breaks these guys would get only to see it end with Lapointe missing the open net. Like Hilbert, Lapointe was as steady as they come defensively but was the original player dubbed with "Hands of stone".

Just throwing that out there...

Happy Turkey everyone.

It'll be tough to narrow down the field for the finalists.

It is frustrating to watch. Can we have one go in off his ass or something? Anything?

Like all five guys fall down and he skates in alone while the goalie is fixing his pads with his stick on top of the net. And he hits the post (ugh) and IT GOES IN.

I just want to see ONE GOAL and then see what happens. Flood gates open or another thirty games without a sniff. I just want to know he absolutely, positively sucks.

I probably have a long wait ahead of me.

Honestly I think we thoroughly outdrafted both the Devs and Rags, the problem is, vast majority aren't on the team.

Tambellini stinks!!! Enough already. He has zero to offer!!! If he can't score goals he is useless. He doesn't hit, he stinks on D and takes stupid penalties to boot. I have been watching hockey long enough to see a player that doesn't belong in the NHL.

Josh Bailey, a 19 year old kid has impressed me more in his nine game tryout. Hell, Mitch Fritz has impressed me more than Tambellini even with handling the puck. Bring up anyone else and send this stiff back to the AHL where he doesn't play like a scared mouse. Give us someone who's gonna play hard and get their nose dirty a little instead of totally wasting a roster spot.

Well he made the boxscore with 2 penalties, the first one was terrible as it lead to Boston's first goal and a trip to the doghouse.

:puke:

And rifle, at this point I dont want him to score. That would buy him another 20 or 30 games. :fear: The time to remove him is now. With Okposo coming back, Tambellini can sit in the owners box.

Just goes to show...even with the Devils, Cups are won in rounds 2-5 of the draft.

Devils are extremely organized, they let guys mature in their farm team (which teaches them the same style they will play in the NHL) sometime until their late 20's, whereas the Islanders rush everyone, criticize them and trade them withink the course of 1-3 seasons. on that list you bolded Kyle O, well not so fast the kid has done nothing yet and could be victimized by this vicio0us circle that Isles prospects go are put through (lets hope not)

You can tell that Kyle O will be a solid hockey player. He digs in the corner, bangs people, makes plays. Tambellini does zilch. As one poster said, if he isn't scoring goals, what good is he?

Question.. I wasnt watching 3-4 years ago so Im not sure what happened but didnt the fans bitch so much to the organization that we pretty much made the coach trade a player? Couldnt we do that here? I mean this is nuts. Tambellini is nothing but dead weight. We could fill that spot with anyone else and it would be an improvement. Maybe Mr. AHL doesnt have what it takes to be in the NHL. He's gotta go... and now!
After a narrow victory in 1994, Boston Bruins defenseman Al Iafrate was asked why, in the closing moments of the game, he had fired the puck around the boards rather than into the empty net. His reply? "Empty-net goals are for faggots"

I am officially proclaiming that Jeff Tambelllini sucks.  He's not worth the roster spot.  How much longer do we wait for this 'sniper' to score.  he had a chance on a partial breakaway, but with his 'speed' a defenseman caught up to him.    He's invisible and with the exception of that shot has nothing to even show he played last night.  he's soft, 0 hits, 0 blocked shots.  He's worthless, 1 shot, never in a good position to shoot.

Now Tim Jackman gets called up and is visible every shift.  The guy came in with purpose and worked hard, played physical and was in the right position to net a goal.

He had a goal, 4 hits and 2 blocked shots.  I see Jackman as the next Dave Scatchard for this team and if we send him back to bridgeport before permanently sitting Tambellini I will be very upset with management and their ability to put the best team on the ice with the resources they have.

GARTH,
TRADE, WAIVE OR SIT JEFF TAMBELLINI ONCE AND FOR ALL.  ADMIT THIS PROJECT WAS A MISTAKE AND MOVE ON.

THE SPOT BELONGS TO TIM JACKMAN.

I wrote this a month ago and a month later I am steamed :angrier: at Garth Snow.

Yea I know Tambellini has a one-way...ooooooooooo....that scares me. That's too freakin bad. It's your job to put the best team on the ice and having Jackman get sent down and keeping this lead weight of a hockey player around the neck of the Islanders in Tambellini is a bad bad move.

:nono:

Garth, you really let me down on this one. Eat the damn Tambellini contract already and sit him either in the luxury box or waive him down to Bridgeport.

Tell us how you really feel, Webby. I would be okay with giving him 17 more games IF:
1. He hits. Or uses his body for anything, even a screen.
2. He stops floating. He needs to be part of the flow, aid with defensive pressure, maybe go in deep on d once or twice.
3. He starts trying to do stuff on offense. Let someone steal the puck from him while he is trying to make a move. The hot potato routine is getting old. Send him to bed with his stick and a puck.
THEN, if he looks the same as he does now, put him on the wire. Maybe it will boost his career to get back to the Bridge!
