Good move. He looked good in his brief stint here last year.

I really want to see what this kid can do, considering we gave Boston Nokie for him. I don't really understand that trade if Walter doesn't ever play up here.

Nokelainen wasn't going to play here after getting injured.
we also got bostons second-round pick in 2009.

Did we get that 2nd rouder? I never heard what the conditions for that were. He seems to be fine now. I think he starts on the checking line.

It was dependent on the number of games Nokey played for the Bruins. It kicked in either late last season or earlier this season. I think the number was somewhere around 70.

Another fourth liner getting too many minutes, even in overtime...it shows how far the franchise has to go. But it's around the corner. After June's draft, the excitement will start to build as Bailey, Kyle O, and Tavares lead our kid line into the next decade.

He was a call up and played well. He's not part of this teams future, and just a stop gap during the injuries. I wouldnt pay too much attention to him.
I sold it all, retired and moved to Fabulous Las Vegas!

To give up a first round pick for a stopgap player is just another dumb move by the franchise then.

This is exactly how I feel about this. Regardless of the 2nd round pick we got. Nokie's injury obviously wasn't that bad because he is a starter for a great team right now. It just pisses me off to follow guys like Bergie and Nokie through their early career looking forward to them playing for the big club and right when he's getting ready they trade him for a mediocre minor leaguer. WTF!

BTW, I disagree that he is just a stopgap fill in player. Maybe I am missing something, but Walter seems to be noticeable on the ice everytime he comes up. Certainly way more noticeable than Tambs. He had a few decent scoring opps last night, and he didn't seem to hesitate in any situation. From what I've seen from him, I like him.

Not when your "former 1st round pick" should have never been taken in the first round. Plus, we got Boston's second round pick for him in 2009 so we were essentially getting something instead of getting nothing, which is what NOlkie was going to give us and currently gives the Bruins.

Playing in the regular rotation and providing grit on the best team in the Conference is hardly nothing. The second round pick is nice, but Nokelainen is an NHL regular on a cream of the crop team. Walter is a callup on a cream of the CRAP team. To me, that says a lot about whos winning the trade.

Sorry being scratched 8 times by the coach this season and avg 9min's a game and having 1 asst in those 21 games doesn't prove this was a wasted trade. The guy is playing 4th line minutes and not scoring. Tim Jackman has had a better season, I'll take the 2nd pick.

Does it matter? We are debating talent that wouldn't even be a footnote on most good teams.

I wonder if the Boston fans are wondering if they got the better of the Nokelianen-Walter trade.

I dont mean to be condecending, it's not my intent. The point I'm trying to make is our talent pool is 3rd/4th line talent only that play 1st/2nd/3rd/4th line on this team and that alone is sad that we look more closely at guys like Walter 'cause it's the only thing we get to look at.

It'd be nice if we were discussing how our stud scorer toasted their goalie a couple of times last night, instead.

He did...
... only it was from a luxury box with a glass of wine after he did his brief Versus interview about the Isles buisiness club.

I certainly agree with you Webb that we're not debating game-breaking talent, but I'll point out that statements like "Does it matter?" are the most frequently used statements on Islander message boards when discussing bad trades.
