I'd like to thank all of my supporters for there kind words OK Children raise your mouse if you like dp Lets focus are attention on the Jeff Tambellini thread were you can post anything about old Jeff without posters getting all crazed or MOB MENTALITY ARISES
Zep - You can post your ramblings in a thread but creating another needless thread to say the same ramblings is where I draw the line.
If I posted a thread where I stated I loved dp would anything be said or posted. See the Jeff Tambellini thread No attach on any one poster. There's a double standard here for dp
LOL.... making a comparison between DP and TAmby. That's funny and shows a real lack of knowledge, but I won't even focus on that.
Please show me where someone posted that they hoped Tamby would get injured. I have seen it, but if someone did, I'd be just as critical as I am of you for hoping DP get hurt.
Rooting for any player on your team to be injured simply because you aren't a fan of their's is classless.
Otherwise, post all the foolishness you want. It gets the attention you crave.

Happy Holidays Ledzep...don't let them get to you.
Glad to see Ricky is back...but I really don't see any real purpose to him playing at all this year...If what people on this board have been saying is true...and goaltending is not the reason we suck..then why on earth would we want our francise goaltender coming back to play to fight for every game to win, robbing us at a chance at a lower draft pick...
hopefully, the Islanders aren't stupid this time around...and don't play ricky every single game from here on out...
we are supposed to be rebuilding from the draft..it ain't going to happen now...not with super duper ricky at the helm.
goodbye tavares or hedman...hello 5th seed.

Well, you have to play him IF HE'S 100%. If you take your best player(s) and don't play them in an attempt to get the number one pick, the league might step in. We've seen it before in other leagues. In the NBA, they have fined teams for "tanking" and not playing players in reg. season games once their playoff spot was secured.
Additionally, IF HE'S HEALTHY, you don't let that player sit the rest of the year.
I agree with you that I don't want to just miss the playoffs, but miss out on the top 2 picks in the draft, but you've to to play him if he's ready.
What message does it send to the kids if we take our "best player" or atleast player who gives them the best chance to win and don't play him when would can?
What message does it send to potential FA's and others around the league?
I hope the Isles don't decide to run Rick into the ground they way Nolan did, but then again, didn't Gordon do it with Joey Mac?
I do hope they let the two of them share the job for the next month or so until Rick completely gets his legs under him. I just think it makes sense.

Just because DP is back doesn't mean that won't happen. He can't win every game. Especially with the D we have

This brings up why he was even allowed to participate in yesterday's game. I thought they would draw it out further, have him do a conditioning stint in BPT, practice with the team another week, etc. They need to adhere to a strict rotation for the remainder of the season between them. 1 game in, 1 game out.
Knowing this team, however, its ride DP into the ground or let DP dictate to us if he wants to play. This view is very short-sighted and won't get us anywhere - it wont just cost us the top pick, but even beyond that. Its the same attitude that pisses me off about this organization and makes you wonder if we will ever build the organziation properly.
I4C - its very hard to argue tanking if you adhere to the rotation I desribed above. Fact of the matter is you have to be concerned about DP's injury history and playing him on an every other day basis makes the most sense for the remainder of the year. In the NBA, the Spurs were accused of tanking, but the NBA did NOTHING to them. Their reward? Tim Duncan and 3 or 4 championships and who knows how many more to come.

David Robinson missed 3/4 of that season with injury. It wasn't tanking. It's a league where one guy can be the difference between 15-20 W's. Factor in that Robinson returned and Duncan was drafted...bonanza.
IF you are playing DP every other start for the rest of the month, then it isn't tanking. However, if you continue to do it come February and DP's shown he's 100%, then it is and its obvious.
The other issue is this...how do you justify to fans who have payed thousands for season tickets that ... "give us your money but we won't play our best guys, but thanks for the money".
If it gets close at the end of the season, do you then also sit Guerin, Weight if they are healthy also?
I agree that we take is slow with DP. But him going 2:1 with MacD after a month of pain free/problem free play and 3:1 in starts after Feb 15 is not a bad thing...
provided he's 100%!!!!
Besides, Joey Mac will need to become used to the role of playing once every 10 days becuase that is what he will do on a good team.

Good point about the Robinson injury. But for some reason they were accused of some shannigans that year, too - I just dont quite remember the circumstances.
The fans will come to the rink. They have to accept that we are rebuilding and come to the rink for the youngsters and the prospects for a solid contender down the line. We will never win so long as DP is our best player - the Okposos, Baileys, etc. have to take over that position. I understand what you are getting at, but to me, we ABSOLUTELY AND DESPERATELY NEED a superstar to build around. Even the worst teams in the league have at least one franchise player - Tampa (Lecavalier, St. Louis, Stamkos), Atl (Kovalchuk), Columbus (Nash), etc. Who do we have??? We have to get Tavares this coming June.
For that reason, I start DP every other game til the deadline. After the deadline when we have unloaded our veterans, then I would give DP more playing time.

My preference would be to be cautious with DP this season. We have 46 (?) games left to play and I'd like to see him in about half of those, but that is only if he remains 100% healthy. You can be sure that if (WHEN!!) we make some moves at the deadline, the life of our keeper will not be boring between then and the time the season ends. So, even if he only gets 50% of the starts, he'll probably face two seasons worth of activity. Playing goalie for this team will be a lot like what it used to be to go see the Ramones in concert. About 4 hours worth of music in 75 glorious minutes.
