You've Just Been Served!

IMO, the team can be built realtively quickly doing the following: * Trades of veterans such as Sillinger, Comrie, Martinek and Gervais for solid prospects or draft picks. I would keep Guerin, Weight and Witt as veterans to build around. If Tambellini doesn't do it by the deadline, its probably not going to come - at least not here. * Once they make room at the deadline, they will need to bring in from Bridgeport folks like Joensuu and Oggulden to see if they can perform at this level. Kohn, from what I understand, is a 3rd pairing d-man. I'd be interested to see how folks like Rhakshani do as well. * Continue to lay Comeau, Bailey (who should have gone to WJC) and Okposo and let them develop together. Actually, I am tempted to try them as a line. * Then they need to turn the draft into gold. No room for error here. They supposedly did a good job at last year's draft - well, they need to repeat that. * They need to hit a home run in the off-season. They need to go after Komisarek and promise him the world. Streit was a great pickup this past summer, they need to do it again particularly as Witt slows down. * If I were Snow, I would visit Russia in the off-season and talk to Petrov. We need to talk to him and explain that another injury like he just recovered from and he may never play in the NHL at all. We need to convince him that he could lose his chance of playing on the big stage by risking another injury in Russia. Assuming transfer agreements are in place, maybe he comes over in a season or two. * Hope that the Lighthouse Project is at least being built by this time next year and gives the team more momentum on the ice. |

Zep... please answer the question I posed earlier. Based upon what was listed above, would you want that goalie as your goalie? |

Zep... in all honesty I don't really get bothered by your comments about DP because you never offer a realistic alternative. Check your PM. That's where this discussion belongs. |

Let me start by saying that I love when people seperate their points like this. Makes it much easier to respond to.
I'd trade them all as long as our team salary can surpass the cap minimum. Guerin, Weight, and Witt are going to command the most at the deadline. If you look at previous years, 1st round picks are easily attainable at the deadline especially for players having good seasons. I would trade every single guy you named if we can get away with it. Then, in the off season, hopefully we have a strong draft and we can possibly bring these guys back into the fold since we'll have plenty of money that we NEED to spend.
I'd like to give some Bridgeport kids a shot late in the year. It can't hurt and it would only solidify a great draft status.
I've been thinking the same thing. For now, I'll take having Comrie on that line.
Well, I think this is the year you take the best player available. They restocked the system in the previous draft and we have a ton of middle round picks. We'll probably have even more after the deadline. The thinking in this draft should be to trade UP or stand pat.
Agreed 100%. Need to throw a monster contract at Komisarek. We have to spend the money regardless, might as well put it to good use.
May have already happened. Snow took a secret trip to Europe last week (as per Point Blank). But, if it hasn't happened already, it needs to happen. We need to get this guy over here for a number of reasons, most importantly to score goals. But it would definitely make the 2008 draft a hell of a lot better.
This to me is the most important issue. If we don't have a renovated arena, we don't have the Islanders any more. |

Just to comment on Mike Komaserak, I can't believe that MTL would let him get to the trade dedadline not signed. If they dont' have him under contract by the deadline, then those fans up there need to string the GM up by his nads if he has any. Now, if Mike K is available, I'd throw CROSBY MONEY at him. Make it impossible for him to turn down the deal. You are coming home, we have a number one pick coming in, and we want you to be the well paid cornerstone to our defense. That would be a situation where the Isles could do one of two things... 1- Bring in Kom and if we get the number 2 pick overall, we have two franchise dmen for the next decade. 2- Bring in Kom and if we get the number 1 pick we take Tavares and have a franchise player at both ends of the ice for the next decade. That would be a great start to the rebuild. Would anyone oppose giving Komsarek 8.5 mill for the next 6 years? |

Just sent this to DP's dad - I4C ====================================== I just started to read "This isn't meant to offend," And just erased the rest. Looking at posts on board wanting DP to be hurt "classless" L and e TIGER The one post was based on history with Mr. 15 How history has played out with him. All based on past occurrences. Never would want the guy hurt. It's one win against a bad team plenty of hockey to be played. This will go out to the board for all the DP lovers that think I want him hurt. HAPPY HOLIDAYS |

sadly, that is exactly what I was talking about. I looked to have a discussion. You erase it...post something about "L and e" and continue with the drivvel. Whatever dude. And yes, it is classless to root for someone to be injured simply because you don't like them as a player. If you have a problem with that, how about a response a bit more encompassing than trite cracks. And if you had read the pm, you'd see that I wasn't insulting you. I was trying to start a conversation, but I know you are allergic to things like IDEAS supported by FACTS based upon REASON. Best to ya Chachi |

I have to know why the hate for DP from LED? We played a good game and won. DP was in net and lifted the spirits of our team (myself) and most Islander fans. Even a-rod who stinks it up in the playoffs gets love from the yankee fans why such hate for DP?

See we can't fall in to that trap. I believe my boy Snowman said they will have the value. Those guys won't be here either when the ship really turns around, sorry they won't. Those three will bring MUCH more than the Bruno's and Comrie's. Shoot send a Guerin and a WItt and get a late first rounder (Contender team). Send all three, three different spots and get the second round picks. Don't half- ass it. Also in the off-season we will get a few guys that are mentors. Those guys can ALWAYS be had. Face it though, what is the earliest this team could win a cup? Three years, being more fair and honest four plus. Guerin and Weight will be retired. |

Unless you can decode emoticons, don't hold your breath on an answer. Your question would require thought for a response....not his strong suit. He still hasn't answered the question I posed about "which goalie he'd prefer" since he doesn't want DP, but he's had time to start other threads about DP. Good luck getting that response. |

Now I don't know I am asking is Mike Komisarek that good? I wouldn't mind overpaying at all. If you say he is worth this and we over-pay that is fine. I NEVER mind over-paying for top level talent, but is he? Is he head and shoulders above a Jay Bouwmeester? I am sure Kami is a very good player and is a home-grown guy, and I know stats with him is different ( I did expect his +/- to be a little better) I'd rather spend 13 million on Crosby ( I know you can't) than spend 5.5 million on Mike Comrie. I hope you guys see my analgoy ha. To me Gaborik is a guy worth it, so over-spending for him is A-Okay with me and a six year 8 million dollar deal for him sign me up. I say the same for Hossa as well. I know it starts with the back-line but is Komi a top ten d-man? You spend 8 million plus on him over Gaborik? (I know Gaborik or Hossa wouldn't come but it is philosphy talk). I would want and would over-spend at the top top guys at that position, no matter what position it is. In baseball you need the pitching, but over-spending on a Pujols or Mauer or Holliday or David Wright because they are top 3 or 4 at the position. |

Komisarek is a stay at home defenseman. He is a 26 year old monster who is Long Island born and raised, grew up an Islander fan. He is the type of player you want to throw a ton of money at, especially since we need to spend. |

^ Number one d-man in the league money though? Paid with Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin... Plus could you ever sign that golden player than? Especially when Comeau, Bailey, Okposo our next two top studs have to get paid? That is all I am saying. Plus would people have the same feelings about him if he wasn't a Long Island guy? That is nice, but we are at the pro level. If he was born in Boston, I don't know anyone that would come on here and say let's do a 6 year 50 million dollar deal. I will over pay for TOP TOP guys any-day, can't over-pay for real good players and have the home-town thing have that much clout. |
