I am simply amazed by this kid. It has been a loooooong time since I've seen a player regress the way he has.

Back during the Buffalo series two seasons ago, I came out of that thinking based on their play that possibly Campoli and Gervais might be able to make it in this league as a 5th dman. Over last season and this season, Gervais has convinced me otherwise.

He is making the same boneheaded mistakes now that he made three years ago. I remember when Mike Ditka banned QB Tomzac from audiblizing. Well, Gordon should ban Gervais from EVER pinching in at the opponents blueline. He just gives us so many odd man rushes on plays he's not even close to making a play on the puck or the man.

He constantly takes wrong angles into corners like tonight resulting in holding and hooking calls. How is it that he goest after the Ranger's outside shoulder? If he takes the inside path, the Ranger has to turn to the corner and Gervais does his job of keeping the puck and Ranger out of the middle. Instead, he takes the outside shoulder and the Rag makes a quick spin move...bang, Gervais has to hold and head to the box. We will see him do that 10 more times for penalties before January ends.

And the only battles he wins in the corners are in xbox.

I'm sorry, but I've had it with Gervais. I know we took him with something like the 214th pick, but it is obvious why no one else wanted him.

He stinks. And if he doesn't show some progression soon, he could be out of the league in two seasons.
I miss these :cup: :cup: :cup: :cup: and want more of them

He's a pretty boy who woos the young girls. He grips his stick like a frightened deer with a truck rolling toward it.

Assistant General Manager?
He does seem to need a leash which only allows him to go so far into the offensive zone, and hopefully the cable will retract quickly enough to help defend against the inevitable odd man rushes.

Bruno has really surprised me. He was improving last year until the injury. I dont know what happened, but if he doesnt improve the Isles will be looking for a new poster boy.

I sold it all, retired and moved to Fabulous Las Vegas!

get him off the ice and have him replace deena as arena host, the only thing going for him is that he is hilarious

and while we are talking about underperforming defensmen... BRENDAN WITT CAN NO LONGER PLAY IN THIS LEAGUE! First, he can't skate at all. So you figure he can use his brains and strength to play d. Well, last night, the rangers scored three of their goals within 3 feet of the net. Take a wild guess which defensman was right in front for all three of those goals...

Brendan Witt?

:D

Agreed, his game is an anchor(we have a few) around the neck of this team.

I was never convinced of Bruno - even before this year. OVER_RATED in my opinion.

He is a hair above Thomas Pock and WAAY below Freddy Meyer. He's a good fill-in d-man (7th man). Other than that, I would not mind to see him go. In fact, from what I have seen of Skinner and Callahan, they have performed better than Gervais.

As for Witt, it hurts me to say this because he's my favorite player, but this season has been a struggle for him. He's overcoming an injury and trying to learn a new system. I would still keep him though because unless we sign Komisarek in the off-season, every team needs a physical crease-clearing d-man. By his history (other than this year), he can do that. I have to assume it will come.

I would rate our available d-men like this:

Streit
Campoli
Meyer
Witt
Gervais
Pock

his downfall started last year. We do need a crease clearer. The problem is witt couldn't even clear a guy the size of richard park out of the crease at this point. It makes me think that instead of chanting "john tavares", we should start chanting "victor hedman".

Up until his injury, though, he was among the league leaders last year in hits and blocked shots. Maybe the injury has had more of an affect than he would admit. :dontknow:

I think all of our defensemen suck.

Its not just Witt, Gervais...or whoever else you want to blame. Its ALL of them.

Andy Sutton gets turned around like every other rush..
Brendan Witt is too slow
Bruno Gervais has just been horrible this year
Radek Martinek cant stay healthy

I mean come on..its the whole defense as a whole...maybe its the defensive system we use??

Also in fairness..its the fowards who arent dropping down and helping the Dmen...like last nite, Im not sure what D pair was on the ice, but there was a guy playing the puck in one faceoff circle and was being challenged by a dman. The other Dman had a guy in front of the net covered...There was another Ranger foward just outside the crease on the other wing...We need SOMEBODY to drop down and cover that 3rd man...Old Man Sillinger attempted to come down and cover but it was wayy too late and it led to a Ranger goal...

SO IMO I just dont think its one person on the backline...I feel its the whole group.

Drive, you must be on to something as it takes the entire team to have the worst GA in the league.

Okay, so we all agree we have no forwards that can score, no defensmen who can skate in the new NHL and no goaltender. Let's all go back to the pre-season and predict where we would be on 12/30. Last place in the entire league? Ten game losing streak? First overall pick?

Wait a minute, all is not lost. We will place our entire future on a backup goaltender. Ummm, I mean our General Manager.

Our facilty sucks, we're the fourth team with a NY or NY address (yes, I put Buffalo ahead of us), no free agent in his right mind wants to be "banished" here and we have seen others sign for LESS to play elsewhere, our owner is more interested in bringing hockey to Hong Kong or wherever, the marketing department continues to alienate season ticket holders by offering seats to one timers for less than them and even the rats refuse to eat the food at our place.

Other than that everything is hunkey-dory.

If by 5-hole, you mean letting up 5 goals a game, you sure are right.
