Snow gave Weight a one-year contract with a base salary of $1.75 million plus performance bonuses that could push the total value as high as $4.3 million. In a sense, Weight's incentives could be tied to how many times he assists on goals by Guerin. The captain's team-high 23 goals last season represented a significant drop from the 36 he scored the previous season with St. Louis and San Jose. As the Islanders' projected lineup stands, Weight, Comrie and Sillinger are the top three centers with Frans Nielsen and Ben Walter vying for the fourth-line center spot. Assuming Guerin is Weight's right wing, then, Jeff Tambellini might get another shot to stick on the top line at left wing. Comrie could center for young wingers Blake Comeau and Kyle Okposo, and Sillinger could anchor the checking line with vets Jonathan Sim and Trent Hunter. Fourth-line wingers with Nielsen or Walter would come from the trio of Park, Sean Bergenheim and Andy Hilbert. The Weight signing leaves the Islanders with 24 one-way contracts, one over the NHL roster limit of 23, so, Snow probably is done shopping for free-agent help. "I would say so," the GM said, "but I'll still poke around and make calls." http://www.newsday.com/sports/hockey/islan...0,2979332.story |

Why do you excited, Dee? You know he won't be on the 4th line. Guerin-Weight-Tambellini Comeau-Comrie-Okposo Bergenhiem-Sillinger-Hunter Park-Nielsen-Sim ----- Martinek-Wittton Campoli-Gervias Sutton-Streit Spares: Hillen-Meyer, Hilbert I actually don't hate our line up! |

Weight and Streit new Okposo and Sim first full year if lucky It's virtually all the same except for back up goalie younger = mistakes Group above may pan out some new 2008 - 2009 Islander useless floaters

2nd line
|
Are the Isles going to roll four lines? I think the roster is a little crowded right now. And I agree, there is no way Bergenhiem plays on the fourth line. He has to be on one of the top three lines, and he DESERVES to be on one of the top three lines with the way he played in the latter half of the season. I would think the job is his to lose at this point. One thing is for sure, Bailey will not be with the big club this year...he doesn't even have a chance with the Weight signing. |

This is a good signing, since none of Franz Nielsen, Ben Walter or Jeremy Colliton should be Top 2 line centers yet. There is no hot shot young center that this takes away from. Josh Bailey should get another year in juniors since he's Josh Bailey, not Steve Stamkos. The teaming of Weight and Guerin has been good in the past, and at least gives me a little something to be excited about in this forward corps, plus it gives a bit of respectability up there. There will still be scoring problems, but hey, this wouldn't be the Islanders if there weren't, right? |

Close. Try this on D... Witt-Martinek Sutton- Campoli Gervais- Streit Forwards- Guerin- Comrie- Bergie Opkoso- Weight- Comeau Hunter- silly- Tamby (and he hasn't earned THAT yet) Sim-Park- Hilbert Franz will NOT make the team out of camp. Unless he blows Nolan away, Nolan will not sit his best PK forward in Hilbert so that Nilsen can get 4th line minutes. JMHO |

I wouldn't agree that Hilbert is the team's best penalty killer. He's fast and defensively strong, but I think Park, Sillinger and Hunter are better penalty killers than him. I think out of all our "veteran" forwards, Hilbert would be the first one on his touchas if someone has to be squeezed out. |

Then F u too!!! (just kidding)Seriously though, without trying to flare up a Tambellini debate, lets give the guy the full season before we're saying "f him, this guy's better, trade him to Columbus." Some may not agree, but I expect a breakout season this year from Jeff. I know he looked like a sissy boy at points up here last season, but I've seen former Islanders that are currently stars that looked alot worse. |
