nice little goal from our new forward...

After a narrow victory in 1994, Boston Bruins defenseman Al Iafrate was asked why, in the closing moments of the game, he had fired the puck around the boards rather than into the empty net. His reply? "Empty-net goals are for faggots"

This organization plays favorites and always has.....which is precisely why Bergie won't get the top spot.....at least not right away.

I'm rooting for Tamby though to become the type of big time scorer he was in the AHL.

Tamby is rapidly gaining the reputation as one of those guys who flourish at the AHL level but just can't make that next step to the NHL. This year it's do or die for him.

Either its that or this organization has no clue on how to draft and develop a player. And let's face it: we don't exactly have a stellar record in that area.

You know puck....I can appreciate criticism towards the team but I am really seeing a trend that you just don't like anything that this team is doing? Am I wrong? I'm not trying to snipe or anything but it would be nice if something nice about the team came from you once in a while, wouldn't it?

Not trying to be out of line or anything...

If you think puck is bad, check out BD Gallof for criticism:

Clebo.....I love the way the team is going. I think they're going in the right direction. But to jump to conclusions on how these kids will do is right now premature. Time will tell.

And for the last 15 years, let's face it.....we have not exactly had a stellar record in coming up with young talent----------for the most part. That's not even debatable.

Never have I've seen so much given blindly and unearned than with Tambellini. I wish the Islanders would just trade him already so we can stop discussing this guys potential that hasnt even been potentially there in the NHL.

I think it's the total opposite. They haven't given him anything blindly and unearned. All NHL time was almost given to him reluctantly, and he had to earn that by being dominant in the AHL. Say what you want about how the AHL isn't the NHL, but if a kid can score, he can score. Especially when it's as profusely as Jeff did the last two seasons. It's not like people are clamouring to play Nicholas Tuzzolino. Saying I wish the Islanders would jut trade him already is right out of the Mike Milbury mentality. Players need time to show what they can do, and if a team isn't willing to give it to them, then they'll be as mediocre as this team has been the last fifteen years. Look at Olli Jokinen, who played here for a full season and looked like crap. He's now a 90-point guy. The key is patience, and from what Garth has been saying in recent months, maybe he's finally understanding that too.

I love reading B.D. too...but Botta has, by far and away, the best blog to read.

I don't see Guerin and Weight playing together, at least not on the first line. Too slow. They'll get lit up by other teams' #1 lines. Maybe throw them together on the PP. I'd split them up as others have mentioned previously and let Weight centre Okposo and Comeau. I also don't think Streit is on the third defensive pairing. He's got to get more ice than that.

Put the Cup Back in Our Lobby Where It Belongs
I think the world of Bergenheim, but he was never projected to be a top-6 forward (by my definition, a consistent scorer, either with goals or assists), and I don't see him developing into one. I think he had 22 points during a full season last year, and that's about half of what Trent Hunter produced.

So there are just two places to put Bergenheim, the third and fourth lines, and on a team that does not have a dominant top line eating up 20 minutes a game, I see no real difference between slotting him on either line.

It's not favoritism to give one of our your top offensive prospects every opportunity to succeed before you kick him to the curb. Not unless unless you're trying to favor Islanders fans. I'm skeptical of Tambellini, but I definitely support giving him a long look next season before we decide that he's a Jock Callender type (i.e., veteran minor leaguer).

Tambellini reminds me of Jason Allison, who ripped up the OHL but took lots of time to learn the pro game. Derek King is the closest analogy that I can think of in an Islanders sweater. He could be worth the wait, and we'll see next season.

BD's observations re: team toughness are fair, but to a point. We have no heavyweights, but some of our new guys play with grit. One thing's for sure, if I'm Jeremy Colliton, I know my ticket to the NHL is my size, my bodychecks, my fight strap, and my willingness to get in front of the net and our opponents' faces.

^ He was taken in the first 25 picks. He wasn't projected to be top SIX? Come on.

I think it's going to be a few long seasons before we start making any noise. I'm still wondering how Comrie got an extension, oh well. 08/09, weee. (sarcasm)

Cause he was one of two players to have even remotely respectable offensive numbers.
