Sillinger is done. You can stick a fork in him. |

Do you know that for sure Nick? If so that really is disappointing. The poor guy worked so hard to get back... |

His age, the severity of his surgery, back on the injured reserve for problems associated with the hip and surgery, and the hip itself as a high impact joint all point to Sillinger is not going to be able to play hockey at a professional level any longer. Sad, but we have to face facts here and even with his experience, can he be mobile enough, fast enough, durable enough with his 37 1/2 year old body? |

It now opens up a center spot for Smith and later on Nielsen for when he comes back. |

Set him up with an office next to Webb and Cairns and in between Bates' reserved spot. |

Pointblank According to Botta, the end seems near: Whether or not he plays another game in the NHL - and I’m fairly certain, sadly, he has played his last - Mike Sillinger deserves the Masterton Trophy for more than 1,000 games of perserverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. At age 37, Sillinger attempted to play a 17th NHL season after rehabilitating from microfracture hip surgery. After playing a few games for the Islanders this season, he missed a week with a groin injury. But when he went on the IR on Tuesday, the club termed it “a hip injury.” You don’t have to be any kind of surgeon to know where this story is headed. |

Too bad for Silli. Maybe he can be an assistant coach at the Bridge next year. Teach our up and coming centers how to win face offs and play a strong two way game. |

Here's to a great future for a great sportsman! I like that "face off coach" idea. Here's to Mike Sillinger! Sticking to the post subject- unless it's a first round pick, re up on Dougie Weight, he brings alot of positives for the kids and likes to be an Islander.

Born during the 1993 Stanley Cup. How heartbreaking is that?

Yeah, but do we really want somebody that crazy on our team? I love Dougie Fresh, but if we get offered a first-rounder, we gotta grab it. |

I think even if you get a good "rookie" and a 2nd rounder you make that trade. Again, anyone who is not going to be on the island 3-4 years from now when we are supposed to be good should be gone. That is what a rebuild is. The only guys you don't trade are the kids, DiPi, Hunter and Streit. Anyone else should be fair game. |

Players like Weight, Guerin and Park may not be here in 3-4 when the rebuild hopefully shows payoff, but no reason to trade them for players who won't help the future. Sad thing that Silli may be done, but Trevor Smith has looked good. Nielsen will have a spot when he returns. Sillinger should have some future with the organization. |
