Played 79 games for Pittsburgh last year, nothing but a solid D, isnt a banger, and isnt offensive... just a tidy player.

From THN

Quote:

ASSETS: Sees the ice well. Makes sharp passes out of the defensive zone. Is poised and a good skater. Blocks shots and uses his smarts to fend off forwards.
FLAWS: Doesn't use his 6-2, 204-pound frame nearly enough and lacks physical presence. Is not considered much of an offensive threat.
CAREER POTENTIAL: Defensive defenseman.

He won a cup with the pens a couple of years ago. had a bad turnover I remember but played decent for the majority of playoffs.

(he doesn't cook, so unlike Bruno who can make turnovers on and off the ice, this ain't so bad)

Nice signing but I think that puts back to where we were when the season began last year. Garth still needs to get another Dman thats an upgrade over the other 3 AHL guys.

Eaton, played the last four seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The 2009-10 season was a career year for the Wilmington, DE native, scoring 16 points (three goals and 13 assists) in 79 games.

At least it's a guy who brings a winning attitude to the team. Not much more I can say.
I sold it all, retired and moved to Fabulous Las Vegas!

Born during the 1993 Stanley Cup. How heartbreaking is that?
This is a solid signing. Nothing to get excited about, but certainly nothing to complain about either. If we sign another more physical defenseman (big Andy Sutton would be fine by me), then I'll be content.

Having Streit, Hillen, McDonald, Sutton, Eaton and Martinek as our defensive corps opening day is not bad at all. Not great, but nothing to whine about. Then leave Gervais/Reese/Kohn for when Martinek eventually goes down. Heck, maybe if Hamonic is ripe enough by then, he can fill in whenever Radek decides it's that time of the season.

There's more work to do, but this is not a bad signing at all.

Solid signing. Martin and Hamhuis turned down more money from us to go elsewhere. Can we make the playoffs with Mark Eaton on defense? Yes we can. That's all that really matters to me at this point.

I made the point last season that all I wanted was an NHL caliber defensive unit. Last year we did not have that. This year it seems like we will. Eaton averaged over 20 minutes per game on the Pens last season. He'll be getting 25 minutes a game on this team.

Maybe save Reese and Kohn. Time to get Gervais out of this organization completely.

Streit, Eaton, Martinek is actually a pretty good top 3. Hamonic and MacDonald and Hillen added is not bad at all. Add an injury to Radek and it's dropped significantly. Take Bruno out back and duct tape him to a tree by the Curves gym and we're alright again.

We have two words for anyone making that argument: Fenway Park. History says free agents would play in an old boxcar if they got enough money and had a chance to win." - Mark Herrmann
