Authority without wisdom is like a heavy axe without an edge: fitter to bruise than polish. Anger makes dull men witty, but it keeps them poor. In the beginning, the Universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move. | |

Well I think this was bound to happen, the guy had a great year so he wants his payday. Garth realizes it was the first time he's hit 30 goals. Say Garth offered 1.5mil and his agent wants 3mil. They'll either figure out a 1yr deal that everyone can live with or the arbitrator will do that for them. He'll be playing here next year. |

Exactly. Who cares? We are a good 8 mill below the cap basement. Whether we sign Kovy or not or if we sign Frolov or not, this has no effect on the Moulson situation. Moulson will not get more than a 1-2 year deal anyway. If it is through arbitration, it will be a one year deal. If he's overpaid, we do it for a year. Its Wang's money...so what. We are that much closer to the cap basement. Then the kid has a season to prove he wasn't a flash in the pan and can repeat his performance. Either way, this isn't the contract for Moulson that will be worrisome. It is the next one if he has another big year. |

It was also his first full season in the NHL. He should cash in, leading the team in goals in pre-season and the regular season. Moulson goes to the places where the coaches want players to go. And, he gets results. Put him down for 25-30 next year, depending on his ice time. |

I don't care about his projected stats this year, I only care that he continues to play hard nosed hockey, we cannot have enough guys on this team who play smart effective hockey like Moulson. The points will come, but the work ethic is something that is and can be contagious. |

Exactly, it was his FIRST NHL season at the age of 26. Could he score 25-30 again? Sure he could but you don't give someone who's been a career AHL'er to this point a 3mil contract after one good season. He'll be on this team next season one way or another, I see them working out a 1yr deal that they both can be happy with and then reward him next year if he continues his good play and scores 20+. |

Smart move by his agent- he'll get somewhere between 1.5 and 3 and also set the bar higher for his next round of negotiations. And he'll have to play hard here to get his first long term deal. It's all good, he's an Islander next season and if he does it again, extend him. |

I'm going to go with 1.5mil Although I could see him sign a 2-3yr deal at your 1.85mil. |

He deserves a raise. What did he earn last season? Double it for a year like CUPZ said, and show us it's wasn't a fluke, then we can talk multiyear with a generous increase. Would he even be in this position had it not been for the opportunity the Isles gave him? |

He made 600k last year and KO is scheduled to make about 1.6mil this year. The biggest thing is next year he'll be a UFA so it might be in the Isles best interest to over pay a bit to lock him in for an extra year or two without going nutty. If we go with the 1yr deal and he has another 30 goal season someone will offer him a boat load a cash ala Jason Blake after 1 40 goal season. |

If I were Snow, I'd see what the arbitor awards Moulson. It is going to be a one year contract. Then go to Moulson's agent and say, "listen, I know you wanted $ and they awarded less by over a million. Whatdaya say we make it a two year deal at 500K more than what the arbitor awarded?" That way Moulson isn't under instant pressure to perform for a new contract and doesn't press if he doens't get into the start he had last season. Plus, the org is showing they have confidence in the kid and telling him we'd like him around. And, if he has another strong season in 2010-11 then we have another year to lock him up to a bigger and longer contract. We aren't in this boat next season. jmho |

Okposo is a consideration, and with some more "O" production and improvement in the rest of his game, he's going to be taken care of. Hunter's current contract is probably going to pull Moulson north of $1.5. Lombardi just got $3.5 ("negotiated" down from $4 LOL), so I don't think Moulson has a shot at getting over $2, but you never know. One good year is not enough to nail a LT contract. I would probably let it ride in arbitration, settle down for another year and take the chance on the next contract. |
