Put the Cup Back in Our Lobby Where It Belongs

from Puck Daddy: NHL Free Agent Confidential: What the agents are really thinking By Greg Wyshynski ... We spoke with four agents in the last week, with clients of varying degrees of prestige, that were involved in this year's Free Agent Frenzy in some capacity. Each agreed to offer anonymous observations about what they experienced, in order to increase the candor of their comments. (It also means they can freely over-praise friends or grind axes, so take that into consideration as well.) ... Garth Snow Is Actually Quite Good at His Job We asked the agents: Which general manager gets a bum rap from fans and the media but is actually quite good at what he does? Two answered immediately and emphatically: New York Islanders GM Garth Snow. "The most underrated GM in the business," said one agent. "He knows every nuance of the CBA. He has confidence in his five-year plan and is methodically implementing it." Another agent said that Snow is a straight-shooter with a "player's mentality" rather than a Harvard education; and that as the GM for a team struggling to attract significant free agents, Snow is a hustler. "He gets a player's ear by being aggressive," said the agent. Other shining star GMs mentioned by our agents: Bob Murray of the Anaheim Ducks and newbie Steve Yzerman of the Tampa Bay Lightning, who was calling agents within a day of his announcement as new Bolts GM to find out more about Lightning players that weren't even on the NHL roster yet. |

Agents who dont want to be quoted, who arent sending their clients to Long Island, yet signing elsewhere. This is a fluff piece using anonymous "agents" but if you do believe this article..Yzerman got right to work, yet Snow cant even re-sign Matt Moulson over a 3 month down time period. |

He'd go from monkey to gorilla in my book if he sees the light, gets Wang drunk off his a$$ and gets him to say: "Okay, Garf, giff Kovelchenkonovitsky hiss frikkin' 70 bazilliom dollar for some kinna years you filthy boy. I luvs you, Garff." That would make my day. Seriously. No kidding. |

The worst part of Parenteau signing was, the following day on the main NYI site, on the right side of opening page was a picture of Parenteau in a Rangers home jersey. A REAL Islander fan would NEVER allow that. You want to market a player, don't just cycle in the stock image you have of them to your graphics team...the website is for ISLES fans. Idiots. As for Snow...if Greg Wyshnutsack feels that way about him, god bless him. |

UpChucks kid drew a picture of him with crayons, but they couldn't decide if it was Parentau or a school bus with square tires, so they went with the stock photo. |

It's all Chris Dey's fault. What's he doing these days anyway? I heard he's getting radio stations in Hawaii to not broadcast the luau festivities.

I agree that Snow isn't a bad GM. But I am furious this afternoon about Janks being let go. This is ugly news, just an abysmal decision by the Islanders. There better be a really, really good explanation for this, because Janks is one of the few scouting directors we've had that seemed to have a freaking clue. And he actually attended games outside Saskatoon. Okay, I'll go rant in the Snowjanks thread now. Just had to get that off my chest here, since I opened this @#$! thread. |

Nothing personal, but JESUS!!! What is all the hysteria about not signing Matt Moulson yet? This is like the 10th time I've seen someone on the board going off the deep end about this. Do people understand how many RFA's end up going to arbitration? Tons!!! Where was the outcry about Slats when Lundqvist was taken to arbitration by the Rags a few seasons ago? This is not an uncommon thing when it comes to RFAs. If the Isles took him to arbitration, he'd get a 1 year deal and be a UFA next season. That isn't necessarily the case since Moulson CHOOSE to go to arbitration. Either way, Moulson will be signed and in camp before training camp begins. CAn we stop with EVERYTHING is wrong/bad/terrible. We just let go a guy who has done a good job with the draft the last 4 seasons. That's fair to question. Going to arbitration with a 1 full season RFA? ENOUGH already. |

agreed. this makes no sense to me. Considering our drafts have been strong since 2006, why do this? |
