So, as I posted in the Kovalchuck Sweepstakes thread, Ilya is making his decision today. http://twitter.com/Real_ESPNLeBrun Perhaps a new thread is in order, as it will no longer be the "sweepstakes." Moderators permitting, post reactions here. Mine will either be one or two words. Both reactions start with the word F***. One ends with Yes! |

have Frolov and Step already signed deals? If not, I could see Garth looking in that direction if this falls through. |

Why couldn't they be more specific about the time he will announce his choice? Now I'll probably have to be up all night... Nothing that hasn't been done before though, thru almost every game day, post modem era.

Well, regardless of the outcome (though it looks like the Devils got their man), that was interesting. Given the fact that Snow said virtually nothing during this whole process, I'm impressed with how much influence Botta has with Isles fans. |

That's for sure. As to why that is, I don't know. If you looked at Botta's predraft coverage, you could see how far off he could be. |

One other thing, as frustrating as it was for us fans, if Snow's silence was a strategy to make the Devil's pay more, well, I can accept that. It was a bit of a tease, but from an organizational standpoint, Snow is/was right not just shut his trap and let the Devs think we are competing against them. Grossman will (hopefully) remember this next time we are dealing with a client of his. |

So whattya wanna bet we spend a ton on Kovalchuk OR we spend nothing on anyone else going cheap? And if we got Kovalchuk, we'd spend nothing after that (like we spent on Yashin's winger-for-Yash all those seasons)? It's about the splash, not the effort to improve quality. It's all about the power of headlines, not solid operations. I'm happy either way. We get him, great. We don't? One fewer stupid contracts to remember. |

OTH, I'm inclined to think that if we don't land IK, it is better to hold off on spending. He was a unique player this off-season. The one game changer out there. If the Isles land him, it would mean that they think they are far enough along in the rebuild that we can take that next step. If not, keep your expenses down, get the resources you have under contract and then re-visit the UFA market when the next appropriate time arises. I certainly would love to hear more about what has transpired behind the scenes, but I don't see enough (at this point) to crucify Snow (yet). |

I hope "Uncle Lou" and the Devils have nothing but misfortune and hardship for the rest of their existence, especially during Kovalchuk's tenior. First steal Volchenkov from us and now Kovy (even though we were trying to steal him from them...you get what I mean). I HATE the Devils now...ok that was my vent. If you know the Devils suck clap your hands! |

Yes, but unlike our former co-owner, my plan doesn't involve work release weekends. I can't say more because then I would have to kill you, but it does involve jello, gunpowder, roller-skates and a land war in Asia. I think I've said too much. |

Well, you wanna measure seriousness, we're either serious about winning and get a Frolov or other dynamic talent OR we don't get Kovalchuk and continue to not spend. It's either about winning hockey or winning a real estate feud. That is, unless Kovy takes our money, and then we'll just have to see what kinda help we import to make the Isles better AFTER Kovalchuk. Is Ronning still available? |

If Garth could've made a better offer than what's being reported by TSN what the Devils spent, then I feel Garth is out of his league as a GM for an NHL club. So if we had interest and didn't make an offer, Snow looks incompetent. If we were in a position to offer more money and better terms and Kovalchuk still signs with the Devils, Snow looks incompetent, regardless of his excuses. And if we never had a real interest in IK and Garth purposely let the fan base get worked up without saying we are not interested, than he's worse than incompetent. Snow's only way to be considered a success in any of this is the report is wrong and we do end up signing him. |

Ask yourselves this question. Do you know for sure if Snow simply refused to make an offer or was he told he was not authorized to spend that kind of money on one player? If you do not know the answer WITH ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY, then you have no right to rip Snow. There is a damn good chance his boss is solely responsible for Kovy signing elsewhere...and if that is indeed the case here...killing Garth is really unfair. I'm not saying that's the case for sure but it's more then just a "shot in the dark" type of possibility and the reason I can't kill him over this mess. |
