So does Frolov stay a King? It appears Lombardi has more than enough to keep him since he lost out on Kovy. And my guess is he has to do something now that the big fish is (reportedly) staying in the swamp (which is now really "the hood").

Looks like the dregs for us once again.

Somebody tell me why he'd sign with us...

He is not staying a King...the org doesn't like him and he doesn't like the org.

I'm thinking he was scared of flying into Newark so he landed at JFK and Snow picked him up so he could watch Lou sign him....sort of like a Management Training Class. :goofy2:

Tucker's hit altered the Islanders history in a negative way much like the goon Hunter from the Caps did so several years before him.

Key facts for Kovalchuk decision:

Devils
1. always a contender
can win Cup next year

Islanders
1. Outside of 1 or 2 still unproved players very little talent
with history of consistent ineptitude.

1983 and then................................................................ :torrey:

The Devs are NOT a contender to win the cup next year. Sorry, but not enough talent there. They need more D in front of a declining Marty.

Those who thought we became a contender with Kovy...nope. We would have an OUTSIDE shot at the playoffs. 7-8 spots would have been in play. Otherwise, we also have more building to do either way.

Have to agree. Brodeur is on his way down too. His performance in the playoffs was way below his previous efforts.

I've been looking all around an nowhere does it quote Garth Snow that says we are out of the picture. That they are no longer interested. Strang is the only one reporting it, and it's in her words. Does anyone think, because of this long long delay of this alleged deal with the Devils, that Kovy is still listening?

I have hopes that he is...and that since he hasn't signed yet..there is still a slim possibility to sign a short term deal, like snow said...or whatever...perhaps kovy gets antsy about the delay with devs..hey anything can happen...I ain't holding my breath though...

gullible (gul·li·ble)

Adj.

1. gullible - naive and easily deceived or tricked, fleeceable, green
naif, naive - marked by or showing unaffected simplicity and lack of guile or worldly experience

2. gullible - easily tricked because of being too trusting

Real glad I was away from all news since Thurs. If NYI ever got Kovy I'd dance naked at TOH City Hall with just a K Murray mask on my Johnson and a Cholly Wang mask on my butt and NOBODY wants to see that. That's how sure I am it would never happen as I wrote a week ago. Yet some are defined above.

Do you really think the organization (and I use that word loosely as they're so disorganized) that won't spend for radio, won't spend for Whitney types but keep Weight, won't spend for.... well you know the whole list by now, is going to spend for Kovy? Without an arena/real estate deal or sale to someone not named Wang?
John Tavares was 2 years old the last time NYI won a playoff series

The Islanders now have a stable of young talent unlike any they've had in a long, long time. Yes, it may even be as good as during their glory years.

I'm of the belief that Snow has done a phenomenal job rebuilding this franchise. He's made very good draft picks -- names like John Tavares, Kyle Okposo and Josh Bailey come to mind

Garth didn't draft Okposo. Neil Smith did.

Quote:

The DiPietro deal -- 15 years for $67.5 million -- to me at least, is a lot more forgivable. DiPietro was the was the first goalie to ever go No. 1 overall in the draft and basically everyone was in agreement that he was the next coming of Brodeur or Dominik Hasek or any other eventual Hall of Famer. But injuries have derailed DP's career to the point where we have no idea if he'll ever play more than five games in a season, let alone lead the Islanders back to the playoffs and beyond.

I don't recall that concensus on DP. I recall many scouts he had great POTENTIAL but the next coming of Brodeur...that is like saying Daryl Strawberry would be the Black Ted Williams.

Quote:

Kovalchuk is a very special player. He's just 27 and already had 338 career goals. If he averaged 35-40 goals over the length of say a 10-year deal you are talking about an immortal. The man is never hurt and has scored at least 40 goals six times in eight full NHL seasons. He's a terror in the offensive zone and a marksman on the power play, mostly setting up at the point. Oh how I would have loved to see him sit along the blue line and play catch with Streit until the time came to let loose.

Why on earth would you take a 40 goal scorer and play him 50' from the net on the PP? Where did he get the idea that Kovy should play the point on the PP?

Quote:

It's not like the Islanders would be 20 kids plus Kovalchuk and a dinosaur in goal. Many of the Isles' young players are on the cusp of being very good. Tavares had 54 points as a rookie in 2009-10. Okposo has improved his point total on a yearly basis. Bailey is turning into a very solid two-way center. Matt Moulson was rescued from the scrap heap and managed to score 30 goals last season. And the Isles have wave after wave of potential young stars waiting in the wings. You may not know the names Kirill Kabanov, Nino Neiderrleiter, Kirill Petrov, Travis Hamonic, Calvin de Haan and Mikko Koskinen yet, but, trust me when I tell you one day in the not-so-distant future you will.

This was probably the most accurate passage in the article.

But I've read this guy's blog before and other than choose a cool DC Comic hero to name his blog after, I've never been impressed by this writer's knowledge of hockey or CBS' coverage of it. Have they even shown a hockey game since game 6 in 1980?

I4C,

from what I remember watching Thrasher games on centre ice, Kovalchuk was used on the point on powerplays.
