UNIONDALE, NY, July 15, 2010 – The New York Islanders announced today that they have agreed to terms on a one-year NHL contract with forward Rob Schremp.

Schremp, 24, posted NHL career-highs in goals (7), assists (18), points (25), penalty minutes (8) and games played (44) last season with the Islanders after being claimed off of waivers from Edmonton on September 29, 2009. The Syracuse, NY, native saw his rookie campaign cut short by a knee injury, suffered on March 9, 2010 at Philadelphia; he missed the final 16 games of the 2009-10 season recovering from surgery.

“We were excited to pick up Rob at the start of last season when he was put on waivers, and he responded by putting together a strong rookie campaign,” said Islanders General Manger Garth Snow. “We look forward to seeing him continue to improve and contribute at this level next season.”

The Oilers selected Schremp in the First Round (25th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. Prior to last season, Schremp (5’11, 200 lbs.) played in seven NHL games with Edmonton, recording three assists. Schremp has appeared in 216 AHL games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and the Springfield Falcons, totaling 47 goals and 124 assists for 171 points. In four OHL seasons with the Mississauga IceDogs and the London Knights, Schremp scored 384 points (154 goals, 230 assists) in 307 games.

Are we now over the minimum for the cap? If not, what is Papineau doing these days?

I like Scrhemp. Over a bed of linguine, fra diavlo, francaise or with garlic and butter.

Seriously, he is a guy I happen to like cause he does not take for granted that he is in the NHL. He is thrilled to have the opportunity and works hard to make the most of it.

Can he double his output to 14 goals? I think so.

And he's great in shootouts.

Obviously a role player but I like his game.

Jumbo Schremp. Oxymoron....

Love his attitude and his abilities. Hope he forces Garth to sign him longer with a good season.
I sold it all, retired and moved to Fabulous Las Vegas!

Im quite pleased with this. He played well when they gave him a shot last season. Just wish he played more than 5 mins a game!
After a narrow victory in 1994, Boston Bruins defenseman Al Iafrate was asked why, in the closing moments of the game, he had fired the puck around the boards rather than into the empty net. His reply? "Empty-net goals are for faggots"
