They signed as RFA's, meaning they made less money than they would have if they hit the open market and there was competition. |

Bring back...PRIDE OF THE ISLAND

IK is talking no trade (contract talks) with the kings....I still have faith he'll be an Islander. Kovy's in denial.

Arthur Staple reported today that Garth offered IK only a 1 year 10mil dollar deal. 1 fricken year if you can believe that. Did Kovalchuk laugh fall over laughing.... 1 year? I hope this turns out to be completely false, as I wouldn't want to think that Wang and Snow as accomplice offer a guy of this magnitude 1 year, as that would look pretty amateurish in the FA market for the NY Islanders. |

We have the following players eligible for restricted free agency following this season: Okposo Bailey Hillen Comeau Schremp and Tavares (the season following) Could the strategy be to save as much money now to retain them for beyond 2011? |

The only names on that list that could even be offered an offer sheet are KO and Tavares, and KO would have to do more next season to even merit one. No one is offering an offer sheet to Bailey, Schremp, Hillen or Comeau and I don't see it to Okposo either. We will have them all beyond the period their RFA period is over if we want them. Seriously, who is going to offer them sheets? |

I wouldn't think Staple would write a concise figure without it being from the agent himself. He's been around a while. So this all makes sense. They were looking to sign Kovy at the cheapest rate (amount of years) to gain support for the Lighthouse. This is all WANG. |

I have to agree. I'm sure Snow would know better than to offer an quality star like Kovy a 1 year. Wang figures, offer him 1 year, no chance he takes it and we can say we were players in the Kovy sweepstakes, and by the longshot chance he takes it, we're not committed to a salary like that for more than a year, it add influence to the real estate deal by making the team a playoff team immediately. Quite possible, Shooter. |

The fact that he hasn't signed yet is interesting based on this "news". Would he actually benefit from taking a one year deal with us (or anybody, for that matter)for 10 mil, then enter the FA market next year? It is apparent he doesn't want to play in NJ and LA seems to be trying to get him for as little as possible. My point is that maybe his agent is telling him the FA market for his services will be better next year. I doubt very highly it is us, but I would not be surprised in the least to see him take a shorter term offer and hit the market again. Maybe not one year, but three somewhere... |

I KNOW WE'VE HEARD IT FOR 18 DAYS NOW BUT THE GRAND WIZARD IS SAYING There is breaking news on the Kovalchuk front...Sources tonight have informed me the Kings are officially waiting on Kovalchuk's decision in regard to their "final offer." Kovalchuk tonight has told the Kings he will make his decision and alert the Kings to his intentions in the next 24 hours. |

So he uses the Devils to drive up the price, but the Kings don't bite. They put a "final offer' in front of him and he balks. He ask for more and they tell him to pound salt, enough already. Hello, Mother Russia. Love to say hello, Long Island, but that is a pipe dream. Just my opinion of how it could possibly go. |

Rifle, I highly doubt that Kovalchuk would even consider a 1 year deal then worry about doing this all again next season. He's got the credentials now, signing for a year can only make his value go down if he should have a sub par year of say 35 goals, and that could happen if he signs with the Isles. His value couldn't go up even if he scores 50 as it's already on his resume. |

Repeat a lie frequently enough....
|
A one-way deal would make sense for Kovy if there was a team out there that he wanted to go to and they wanted him, but cap issues were stopping them from signing him this season. Obviously, that doesn't appear to be the case. |

Yashin. Bring him back so we can get to the cap. So we can be paying off his last contract and pay him in another contract. (not sure if this is possible...lol). As Led has said in another thread, it would get the Islanders back in the news. |
