Not sure who ended the relationship but it was announced last week we wouldn't be affiliated with Utah anymore. Utah will only be for Calgary.

WOW! I worked on the Disney park building their new Downtown Disney fracas and thought it couldn't get any more non-hetero than that. After this video, I'm sure I've never seen anything less hetero-friendly in my life. If I have kids and they turn on Disney, they're grounded until they can cage fight. :crying2:

I need to go cry in the shower and try to get clean after that. Thanks, D4Five. I need to get out of my skin now it's so uncomfortable.

Waiting til after camp when they have the interviews.

Under favorite pre-game meals, EVERY PLAYER will list a Swanson $.99 entree (with no dessert).

Martinek breaks the mold and cites Louise's $.33 beef burrito as his favorite. :disgraced:

A shrewd move. This way players in the system will already know what playing in a zoo's like when they come to Wang's World.

the other NHL team affiliated with Utah wanted full control of that team,so they took over and the isles moved on to kalamazoo

remember back in 2005 we had a 1 week affilaition with New orleans.. then katrina hit and they were forced to dismantle that team, thus Utah came into paly..

This Kalamazoo gig will be shared with The San Jose Sharks.

Guess it comes cheap.

B)

More cost cutting, just saying. Utah expanded their role with the Flames so to me,
this sounded like a bargain opportunity.

Just some things many Isles fans aren't aware of.

Grizzlies extend relationship with Calgary Flames
July 22nd, 2010 @ 8:21pm

(Press Release)

WEST VALLEY CITY -- Utah Grizzlies Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Colley announced today that the team has signed an affiliation agreement with the Calgary Flames to again work with them and their AHL affiliate in Abbotsford, British Columbia.

"Calgary is a first-class organization and we had solid communication with them last season as we worked to develop their ECHL skaters; we're excited to continue in an expanded roll in 2010-2011." said Colley. "I found they share with us a common belief that hard work and professionalism on and off the ice go a long ways in player development and winning hockey games."

"We enjoyed our first year working with the Grizzlies in 2009-10," said Flames Director of Player Personnel Duane Sutter. "We are confident, given the working relationship we have with Kevin Colley, that our players' developmental needs will be well taken care of and that we can contribute to the on-ice success of the Grizzlies."

Pairing Utah with Abbotsford, the Flames will be closer to their ECHL and AHL affiliates than any other team in the NHL's Western Conference. Prior to working with the Grizzlies last year, the Flames were affiliated in Utah with the IHL's Salt Lake Golden Eagles from 1984-1993.

"Coach Colley had a great working relationship with Duane Sutter and the Calgary Flames last year," said Grizzlies CEO Kevin Bruder. "The regional proximity makes this a great fit for the Utah Grizzlies as well."

In 2009-2010, J.D. Watt, Josh Meyers, Hugo Carpentier and Peter Vandermeer played in both Utah and Abbotsford. Watt was promoted from Utah to Abbotsford after the first game of the season and never returned; totaling 265 penalty minutes in 70 AHL games. Meyers played the first 12 games in Utah, before joining Abbotsford for the final 65 games of their season.

As Utah expands their role with Calgary, the organization has also announced that they have parted ways with the New York Islanders organization, whom they had been affiliated with since 2007.

I know it's not fair to read into quotes but I'm very very guilty in this instance and hope to heck I' wrong.
But Kevin Colley's quote says alot to me. Wonder what happened with our Isles and Utah to end that relationship? Guess NYI.COM, Katie Strang and co. won't be reporting that stuff eh?

I wouldn't read too much into Steve, We've only been with Utah since 2007 and that was because the affiliate in New Orleans that was going to be "ours" had to leave because of Kitrinia. It was already a shared affiliate when we got there and it would seem that Calgary wanted to make a bigger commitment to its ECHL affiliate.

How many prospects that turn out to be good really come from the ECHL? Isn't it much more likely to play juniors then move to the AHL and finally the NHL? I think only because we've been icing an AHL team most seasons that we've really been looking at the ECHL to see who might make an impact at the NHL level.
