According to the New York Post, Islanders GM Garth Snow may be looking to trade veteran defenseman Brendan Witt in the coming weeks.
The paper notes such a trade would not be considered a point of selling, as Witt could command a solid price and could be replaced in the lineup by some of the Islanders' rising prospects.

The Post believes if the Islanders can acquire a second-round draft pick as part of a package for Witt, they may be inclined to pull the trigger.

i say trade him with Biron and Tambellini for ???? and a draft pick :dontknow:

It will not be a giveaway, not at all, but the development of Andrew McDonald and Dustin Kohn would seem to free Islanders GM Garth Snow to move veteran Brendan Witt, just the type of crease-clearing defenseman whose value increases in the playoffs.

Witt, tougher than a truck, has one year remaining on his contract at a cap hit of $3M, with a salary of $2.5M. Two years ago, the Maple Leafs were able to get a No. 2 and No. 5 from the Penguins for Gill. If Snow can wrangle that kind of a return for Witt, who turns 35 next month, the general manager would be advised to make the deal.

Another salary dump. What rising prospects are ready now??? We have one that's out for two months. They aren't thinking about increasing time for Bruno Gervais and Freddy Meyer?

No way does Snow land a second round pick for a guy who appears to be on his last legs.

And why are some so anxious to dump Tambellini in a trade. He's worth a lot more than Sim and Park.

Are you for real? The guy can't break the lineup of the last place team in the Atlantic.
I sold it all, retired and moved to Fabulous Las Vegas!

He can't break the lineup because the coach has a bug up his ass about him, the same bug that kept Nate Thompson in the lineup for most of the year and kept Blake Comeau out of it too. Sorry, I don't have any confidence in Flash Gordon's ability to judge talent as I watch Sim, Park, Meyer and Gervais pollute the ice every night and play important minutes.

He doesn't play and hasn't been traded because he doesn't have an NHL game.

Nonsense. He's produced more points than Jon Sim in 24 games, 30 less than Sim. Gervais doesn't have a game but he's given every opportunity. There are different rules for different players here. And you're telling me Nate Thompson had more of a game than Tambellini. Are you for real?

Tom you crazy bastid!
Can you hear me laughing from out here in eastern suffolk?

I'm not old enough to PMP like Jerry.

Damn that was great.

Anyway, I still think in a different system, as #5 or #6 defenseman, Witt has some value.
3rd round pick or project forward/prospect.

We used him as top 4. Not good.
