good riddance is what i say but the way he was handled sucks because it's the same as Guerin.
Disagreement with the neophyte coach. Hasta-lavista.

He would be a great pitch man for SUV sales :)

....and you sure a penchant for the words "neophyte" an "kool aid" :P

:goofy2:

and Tom, no, salary cap floor isn't 3m higher, no one wants this bastid.
they'll buy him out and we'll be socked with a cap hit this year and next for 1 third his remaining salary.

Or we can just pay him his 3 million this year (against the cap) and be done with it. This is my bet for what we do and gets us closer to the cap floor.

I sold it all, retired and moved to Fabulous Las Vegas!

Plus they will throw in a bunch of buyout bonuses they will try to add into the cap

I'd trade Witt for a bag of pucks, a pile of unwashed jocks and a gift certificate to the cupcake cocession.
It would go down in history as one of Garth's best moves.
I hear the ice in Columbus slants dowhill so at least he could make it back into the D zone every other period.

Why are so many worried about dealing Witt? He counts against our cap, he won't play for us, and it isn't like we have to move his contract to make room to resign someone or bring in a top FA.

This is such a non issue its ridiculous. He either gets his money to be not in the nhl or someone takes him off our hands. Either way, this is a non issue of the ny islanders. Is there any negative impact about this?

The only thing I'll say is there was a window, albeit small, to have acquired anything for Witt. That was last season before he was demoted. Had this franchise had the foresight (read plan) and bet on acquiring D FA's we could've moved him to a playoff contender for picks or a prospect. Holding onto him and now taking a cap hit could've been avoided. Granted, slight chance but a chane for some value versus none. Right now he only falls on the "expense" side of the spread sheet.

Rifle, I'm sure there was an effort made to move him before the Isles placed him on waivers to play at the Bridge. Would you have taken him if you were a GM?

I sold it all, retired and moved to Fabulous Las Vegas!

We did look to move him and there were no takers. Now, if one wants to argue he had a bad contract and the xtra year made him untradeable, that might have strong grounds. In retro, he probably had one more year on that deal than he should have.

In the end, Witt is exactly what you said...he's an expense right now that in the end, won't effect this franchise in any way, shape or form this season.

Per Strang...
Witt cleared waivers. Buyout next up...as expected.

Witt, Yashin and DiPietro contracts on the cap from a trifecta of guys who won't play
games, all of which signed by Garth. Correction...DP will be back. Ask Garth. He'll tell you.

Witt was bought out.

The New York Islanders have bought out the last season of Brendan Witt's two-year, $6 million contract.

The 35-year old defenceman now becomes an unrestricted free agent. He was placed on unconditional waivers by Islanders' GM Garth Snow on Friday and cleared them on Saturday.

Sorry to see his career turn the way it did. Thanks Brendan, and good luck.

And with that we are only $423,350 from the cap floor...remove Haley's 500k add Weight at 900k throw in some bonus money and we are soaring over the cap floor!
