Ok, so this not coming from me but the last part is.
Was at a barbecue and got the scoop today.
I did not make it to the game but my neighbor did. He's a transplanted Habs fan with 2 sons, the youngest roots for the Isles. The oldest is warming up to them but is still primarily a Habs fan. He said they had limited parking attendants at the booths so it took a while to get in.
Also had to wait a bit to get in as they had minimal ticket takers.
Apparently there not enough arena employees working to handle the amount of people
that showed up. Makes sense now why the team tried to gauge how many people would show up
so they knew how many employees should be there.

Said that Niederreiter and Martin stood out. Alot. Liked how Kabanov can look like a firebug out there even though he's a twig. But overall, he said his son loved the skills competition.
His kids today were talking up how great these guys looked. How Martin threw a couple of checks.
Niederreiter showed great hands etc.

So I bit my lip.

(the following is not negativity, it's reality)

A 16 and 13 year old both marvel at what they saw from 17-22 year olds...playing against each other. Collectively with under a half dozen NHL games between them.
Of course some will stand out. Was nice to se and hear them enthused about these great moves. But think about this. When you're coming down the wing against an experienced NHL defenseman (not a green 18 year old) they can take you from vertical to horzontal on the ice in a blink of an eye. When that happens, it gets inside your head and your timing, thinking
and preparation on each shift change. I heard some fellow Isles fans and other hockey fans discussing prospects and it makes me wonder how people can determine how great a career a guy can have based on seeing them 1 time. JUST ONCE. Let them grow, let them mature. It may take time. Some make it, some don't.

Fortunately, my Habs buddy knows hockey and we shared a great laugh or two as we expect the youthful exuberance from the kids. But some adults talked about prospects like they were future hall of famers. WOW. I hope they're right and us doubting thomas' are wrong.

I was there...the problem was that they had everybody go downstairs right off the bat, then everyone came in the same space between two sections and they tried to have everybody sit in about 5 sections. So, instead of having people all across the arena, comfortable, everybody was jammed together. It was ran badly, but the actual content was great.

Matt Martin was throwing down more hits than the Beatles...Nino was great...Kabanov showed some great skills...all of the other guys showed off great moves...Diamond had a nice shot for a goal...Koskinen looks great he's huge.

That's my 2 cents.

What was up with Petrov's shoulder? Did they ever mention anything at the game?

The thing that struck me most was the turnout of the fans. Close to 5k fans right smack in the middle of summer. That says a lot to me about the extent of the passion and enthusiasm of an often maligned fanbase. The strong turnout at the draft parties just reinforces my feelings on this. Kudos to all of those people that showed up.

And it would certainly be foolish to try and start a write in campaign to get these kids nominated to the HHOF. But it is also nice that we have a very promising and exciting stable of young talent...and that this is recognized by a knowledgeable fanbase. Enough talent, it would seem, to get the turnout as high as it was.

A lot will happen over the next few months and years that determines if we are entering another golden generation, simply treading water or deluding ourselves. I, for one, am pretty optimistic. I've seen a patient and fairly well-executed approach to re-building that, apparently, has created a bit of a buzz on Long Island. A number of other fans appear to be seeing the same thing. Definitely keeping my fingers crossed.

Was at the "GAME". My opinions:
1) Not enough ticket takers. Bought my tickets at the draft party, only to be told to go to will call to exchange tickets to other side of arena. Total time waiting online, 53 minutes.
2) Overcrowded entry into arena. Explained in earlier post.
3) BADLY underestimated amount of people coming. 1 concession stand open.
Now about the team,
1) Fast skaters
2) Martin. Hit everything in site. Made a few big hits, but was impressive all around.
3) Nino showed great hands. Soft touch. Should make team out of camp.
4) Joey Diamond. Younger version of Bergy, only can score. At least at this level.
5) Both of the LARGEST goaltenders I've ever seen played very well. Mikko needs to stand up more, but he's so big, he covered the net.
6)Probably the best part was the interviews. Young kids who have very little experience in front of a mic, were themselves.

Future of the team looks bright. Future of WHERE they play now highly in doubt.

The encouraging part is that we actually HAVE prospects. In the MM era we had nothing, he dealt a lot away for nothing. Snow is doing a nice job of building from within. No HOF'ers at this point in time, but the HOPE that there is a budding star in the pack is a good thing.

And I have this gut feeling about El Nino. Wouldn't it be nice to have the steal of the draft in our locker room for a change.

So, keep it in perspective, they're kids. But they're OUR kids.

I was there had a great time watching the kids play. Nino looked good, kabanov likes to have fun. Thats good to see. He'll probably end up in moncton this year, not ready yet. Petrov was out with shoulder injury..I think I heard that it was an old injury from the khl and it was agravated in practice here, so for precautionary he sat out..Figren looked like hartnell with all that hair...about that only thing that stood out from him..well, maybe the one hard shot off the crossbar and over the glass was the other...Dibendetto doesn't look like a prospect anymore. Diamond had a nice goal, played pretty good. Hamonic showed some spursts of flashes. Mikko is HUGE. The orange team looked way much better than the blue team. Actually at times I thought the blue team was the Islander team playing against a skilled penguins team, or capitals team..Skills competition was fun to watch. Though with the hardest shot..took forever to find the score on the board..at times, I thought the score was a farce to make it look good....

I was very proud of my fellow Islander fans showing up in the middle of July to watch the scrimmage. For one night I was proud to be an Islander fan. I hope I won't need a bag for when the season starts.

I didn't much of wait to get into the game..arrived right from work..but, as soon as I saw that we were being herded like sheep downstairs, I knew this was a terrible start to the season. Person ahead of me had to leave and go to will call to get new tickets..I was fortunate, I got mine online months ahead....Good thing I went through, I would've bitched and went in regardless. There would've been a fight and alot of cursing. (I wasn't in the mood that day.)

Leaving the game was riduclous..I was parked in the front..and the idiots decided to rope off the area around the front section so you had to do u-turn in between rows of cars with cars coming behind you to go out one way..(if that made anysense.)

Oh, but I'm not surprised about the Islanders not being prepared for the crowd showing up. They were probably looking to save money.

I suppose everything would've came out better if Deb was there. ;)

I was there too and I could care less about seating and food and ticket takers and merchandise..I got to watch a hockey game with my best three friends and we got to talk the game we love in the middle of July and it was AWESOME. and I said this a number of times and I'll continue to say it..If Kiril Kabanov grows up and becomes a man and shows the kind of enthusiasim he showed saturday night..I think he can be a much better player than Nino. I truly believe that. We got a hell of a steal in the third round of the draft.

I went to the game. I thought Matt Martin was awesome and so was Nino. Matt Donovan impressed me with a few nice rushes he had up the ice. The one player who looked really good was Mikko Koskinen.

BTW WTF did CJ Papa do to his hair??? Did he get plugs or was it just dyed? Yikes!

not worth of a response from a guy who defiled an Islanders jersey with "15 year bust" on the back of it..

Not only that Steve...but when these kids get rushed...there is absolutely no guidance and not enough experience on a team that doesn't believe in veteran presense...other then Doug Weight.

Streit is not a seasoned vet? Roloson? I understand your point, but I think you may be overlooking a few guys. And KO has been in the league for several years now, I would hope he no longer has a rookie mentality. It is true that we are a young team, but that is the double-edged sword that going with a youth movement brings.

For what it is worth, I'm actually pretty impressed with the maturity and presence that most of our young guys have shown (Bruno and Tamby excluded...obviously), though I don't mean to say that those participating in the Prospect Camp have it, just those who have played at the club level.
