They also signed Rob Hisey, the sickest stick-handler I've ever seen. http://islanders.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=...4;NYI|home [dohtml]<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/033KSeflgrs?fs=1&hl=sv_SE"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/033KSeflgrs?fs=1&hl=sv_SE" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>[/dohtml] [dohtml]<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Jvv-4hz1hHE?fs=1&hl=sv_SE"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Jvv-4hz1hHE?fs=1&hl=sv_SE" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>[/dohtml] |

Another two-way deal for a veteran (Hilbert) who probably won't see much, if any, ice time here. Yawn. I would say that I'm a bit surprised at the relatively mild/tepid response to this signing as compared to the absolute uproar that Sim's re-signing precipitated a few days ago, until I realized that Hilbert was a hero to many here (Awesome Andy). So, all you Hilbert fans, where's the love for Garth for such an "awesome" signing?

Island in the Desert
|
Uniondale, NY (AP): In yet another move to bolster the roster of the New York Islanders, general manager Garth Snow signed goaltender Garth Snow to a one year two-way contract. "The Islanders have always hung on to their past," Snow explained. "We bring back old players all the time. Why limit that practice to the dynasty years?" However, Snow dismissed stories that he would resign former Islander Mike Comrie, citing Comrie's refusal to have his new wife, Hilary Duff, serve as an Ice Girl. "She worked for Disney, right?" Snow asked. "Fine. Let the Ducks sign them." However, when reporter Katie Strang asked Snow for confirmation of a rumor that he had signed ToH supervisor Kate Murray as a practice goalie, the general manage issued a terse "No comment," adding: "You'll find out when Botta finds out." Strang ran out of the room crying. Snow smiled. "I always wanted to feel like Mike Milbury," he said. "That reminds me ... does anyone have Salo's number? DP's still not ready yet." |

I love the enthusiasm Nick and I'll go out on a limb here and suggest that I detect a touch of playful sarcasm in your post! Just a few quick points...I kind of like some of these two-way deals...provided the majority (cough-all-cough) of the two-way part is north of the Long Island Sound. Guys like Sim and Hilbert would seem to be ideal for mentoring the kids in Bridgeport. Not a very glamorous thought and certainly doesn't address Isles fans desperate thirst for that elusive "top-6" forward...but it is a need and seems to have been addressed. Fine. I guess my other point/question has to do with the comparision between Sim and Hilbert. Maybe it is because people here have gone on record with their admiration for Andy in the past, but do people here really think Hilbert is that much of a better player than Sim? Both signed one year, two-way deals and the reaction to Sim's contract was...well...less than enthusiastic (my diplomatic way of saying "hostile"). Hilbert's signing, on the other hand, barely registered a blip on the radar.

DAVE I THINK THE SIM SIGNING WAS MORE OF A SHOCK EVERYONE WAS FIGURING HE WAS FINALLY GONE THEN TO BRING HIM BACK IN THE FOLD TO MENTOR THE YOUNGINS I GUESS THE SAYING IS RIGHT THOSE WHO CAN DO THOSE WHO CANT TEACH THEN WE GET HILBERT WHO HAS BEEN A YEAR REMOVED FROM WANGS CAVALCADE OF STARS SO THE FEELING OF BRINGING HIM INTO THE FOLD ISNT AS REVOLTING AS SIM BUT THE SAYING STILL SEEMS TO WORK NOW WE JUST SIT BACK AND AWAIT PARK TO ARRIVE IT DOES BECOME COMICAL AFTER AWHILE BUT I'M SURE HE CAN TEACH ALSO JUST WAIT FOR WHEN THE ABOVE GET CALLED UP THEN YOU'LL REALLY FEEL THE LOVE |
