A few other questions--- 1- Does this mean Rick Tocchett is our next head coach? 2- Will Janet Gretzky encourage Wayne to move into upper management? 3- Will the nhl want a casino next to an nhl arena? 4- Will the new arena, errr...I mean casino allow gambling on the nhl or sportsbooking? 5- Will the lounge talent be Debbie Gibson? 6- Is this all part of Wang's desire to have Rick have a post-nhl job?? Most expensive Casino Greeter for 15 years? 7- Will the casino have better pipes than the NVMC locker rooms? 8- Does anyone think the TOH won't hold this plan up as well? |

sportsbooking i think is up to the state and not the indian tribe, or if it is allowed, you can not bet on the local area teams at all.. all local teams are off limits The National Hockey League had no comment. Spokesman Frank Brown said nothing prohibits a casino adjacent to an arena in which one of the league's teams plays, "as long as the casino and the arena aren't connected physically." http://www.newsday.com/long-island/mangano...ation-1.1883320 |

I know alot of people live in NJ, Manhattan and Queens and a move to Queens sounds great, but I'd love to see something like this happen so Wang can just stay away form hockey ops if possible. Wishful thinking but I'm not betting on it. |

Mangano said he has been in discussions with Shinnecock leaders since January about creating a "entertainment-sports resort" on the 77-acre Coliseum site that would include a minor-league baseball stadium, a convention center and new hotels. A Shinnecock deal, Mangano said, would not need town approval because the tribe would have federal development status. "Obviously, we intend to work with the Town of Hempstead and the community for a sustainable development," he said. CASINO PLAN HAS SEVERAL HURDLES Before any ground is broken for Shinnecock casino: •The Shinne**** must be federally recognized. That could happen by mid- July. •The tribe must negotiate a compact with the state of New York. It would stipulate how revenue from casino operations would be shared with the state, and which locations are most suitable, including Nassau. •An off-reservation casino would need to secure an agreement with the federal government. Known as a land-in-trust agreement, it would essentially declare the remote property tribal ground. While a casino at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum would fit within a 75-mile restriction for off-reservation gambling, the tribe faces a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that bars tribes recognized after 1934 from land-trust casino deals. •But the tribe hopes to leverage five separate land claims encompassing more than 3,600 acres, mostly in Southampton, to negotiate for a land-trust agreement. •It needs to be wanted. Because the Shinne**** have said it won't open a casino anywhere it's not wanted, community groups, political leaders and the tribe must agree the location is desirable to all parties involved. |

I will find it hilarious if the Islanders move to Queens/Brooklyn and Garden City/Hempstead is left with this gem and no team. But hey at least they'll have another Minor League Baseball team... the Nassau "Cocks can play the ducks! I hope Wang has been negotiating elsewhere since January. Did I read the article correctly? I get the impression that the TOH has no say in any of this. PRICELESS! Enjoy your Lighthouse alternative Kate! |

If the 'cocks get all their approvals and can proceed the first thing they should do is borrow enough money to buy the Islanders and move Wang out of the picture all together. They get the casino, hotel, arena and team. Bet we max our payroll out every year after the casino is operational. And I don't know of an Indian tribe casino that allows bets on any sport other than horse racing. So betting on hockey wouldn't be an issue. |

Great point. Only thing I can think of is more mass transit vs housing which will mean more cars. Honestly, while I'm Republican. I have an issue with Mangano NOT discussing or disclosing these talks to Wang until now (if that's even true). We'll find out the the truth someday and not by Wang's admission either). There's just too many questions with this. I also want to challenge any of my fellow Islanders fans who don't live in that area and are 100% behind this Casino build. Would any of you want this in your back yard, near your childrens schools, college etc? Alot of things to think about before we get to the selfish side of things stemming from our passionate fandom for our Isles.

Steve, I fall into that category. We are not talking about a residential area of Nassau. It's highly commercial, and if they work out a deal that the surrounding school districts get revenue that would offset prop taxes by 50% to the homeowners, that would settle alot of concerns. If this was an area south of Hemp Tkpe then you'd be in someone's back yard, but this is an area of Roosevelt field, 77 acres of asphalt with the NVMC/Marriot, Hofstra, Eisenhower park, Hemp Tpke, the Source and Stewart ave/Old Country rd mega retail district. If there were any place for Nassau to have a Casino other than Belmont, this would be the best local. That said, if they thought that traffic would be a problem with Wangri la, I'd say there would be at least twice the traffic including volumes of bus service to the 'cockswoods Resort - Casino - Arena. |
