looks like damage control to me.seems like garth trying to save face.

Damn it - some people can't be happy.

Guerin's style fits what we want - he can score, he is a winner and has shown consistency over his career.

If that's how it "looks to you" you may want to get glasses.

1) Isles have coveted Guerin for a while, the latest documented time was when they tried for him at last year's deadline

2) Garth has already eaten the worst of the sh!t-sandwich some of these fans want to lay at his feet, so why give in now?

3) this deal likely took days to put together. It is MORE likely that Garth is sticking to his guns and that mid-level talent with potential (in his estimation) is his true target, not fan pleasing name signings with no vision beyond next year.

There is nothing a GM can do without pissing off some fans. You, sir, are in a serious minority and one that doesn't have a leg to stand on. So--in a way--I'm glad to hear that THIS is as "good" as the dissenters get. What a lark!
Yashin, you ARE the weakest link. Goodbye.

Seriously, you need to look in the mirror and ask yourself "Am I REALLY an Islanders fan?"

Some people are complete oxygen thieves, I am tired of being nice. This is why I can't post anywhere anymore - its not worth it.

I can't believe Guerin signed a 2 year deal. That's awesome. I'm sure we had to put up extra money to make it happen, but whatever. He's a tough player who will absolutely step up under Nolan. This is perfect. Now let's go get Comrie and Sutton/Markov/Berard!

Anyone see that Hunter is up for arbitration?

So are Derek Roy and Pierre-Marc Bouchard; if either of those guys becomes too expensive for their teams, I would take them in a second!

I think that is the idea Garth has. We have tons of cap room and lots of RFA's filing for arbitration means we can steal one or two and also lock up our own.

Looks like he got a little more but nice move by snow not to give him a 4 year.

For those who don't know this player here are his stats

Excellent signing by Garth. Looks like we have a new captain. Now he must follow up by getting a top two d-man, which is much more important than getting Comrie.
Rick DiPietro- Retiring?Nothing like that has even crossed my mind. I know I can play..

How does that [arbitration] work? Would they have to sign for the amount of their arbitration award if their team walked away? Or would they just become free agents? If they did, would their original team still be allowed to sign them for less?

wish he signed a 1 year so we could move him at the deadline, St. Louis got a 1st and 2 prospects for him last year

Once the arbitrator determines the amount to be paid (See Asham last season) the team has to sign them for that amount or they become UFA's.

Yep - I think the Hunter thing is a formality.

They'll get a deal done.

And.. I just realized. We first offered the Smyth picks for Guerin, got shot down. We then went for Smyth, got it - Smyth walks, Guerin signs for less.

Granted, we won't have him as long, however, for the 2 years - that is a big win.

Ryan who?

His contract is movable...

But, as long as there is no off year (him or team) we wouldn't want to do that.

How's it going Islander Country, I've been reading posts for months now and I've decided to pop my cherry with an acutal reply.

Good signing, but take a look at what we offered for Guerin to STL during the dealine; then look at what STL rejected us for from SJ!!!!

Isles offer: 1st Round pick, O'Marra, Nillson

SJ offer: 1st Round Pick, Ville Nieminen, Jay Barriball

So basically STL accepted a 1st round pick from a team higher in the standings, a 3rd/4th line winger, and a guy drafted in the 7th round in 2006 (203 overall).

All this tells me is that Nillson and O'marra must be considered duds by the NHL.

btw, Eklund got this right, I know how much you love to bash him, but give him some credit

cherry has been popped

he will probably stick it out this year and if he gets traded it will be in February of 09, I dont know how attractive a 39 year old Guerin is, but we will see
