"the arrival of Bill Guerin", Jesus Christ lets not make a big deal out of this like we did with Smyth, when we had f#@king TV camers at the airport
Guerin is a past his prime player, he will not turn this team around and will not lead us to the promised land, he is here to fill the roster and make the minumum salary cap(and maybe be a trade bait at the deadline), lets not make a big deal out of this, a Press Conference is not needed, no one really cares why Guerin is here, and by Guerin saying he is here because he "sees Garths determination to winning", we all know that is a lie, there is a 50% chance he wont be here at the end of this year and a 75% percent chance he wont be here at the end of next, please Islanders dont embarass me any further and make a big deal out of this
jeeze. you really need to get the sand out of your vag-jay-jay.
I bet you think this was a great move and will bring the Islanders closer to the 6th playoff spot, you also probably thought the Smyth trade was a great trade and like Snow would do it all over again
If Dipietro does not get hurt in Montreal... that Smyth trade could have been Perfect. We rolled the dice and got burned. Weren't you happy to see Wang make a statement that we are for real.. no longer the perennial sellers at the deadline or the year we got crazy an added steve webb at the deadline.
It doesnt matter, even with Smyth and DP not getting hurt, Isles were no more then a 2nd round playoff team(but with them healthy of course we get knocked in the first), unless you are a contending team you dont even think of making a trade like that I knew the second I hear that trade it was horrible, you dont trade 3 f#@king 1st round prospects for a f#@king rental player, especially when you are not a lock to make the playoffs and even with that player not considered a contending team for the cup That trade gets an F when I heard it and an F now
Then you are a genius. Let me ask you a question. Why are you so upset with losing Nillson? He played a grand total of 4 GAMES for Edmonton, gaining fewer minutes in each game. HE IS A BUM!!! He was a first round pick in 2003!!! It is now 2007!!! Four years and he's contributed nothing on the Island. He played 4 games for Edmonton and then NOTHING. He isn't even listed on their roster. he's listed in their "In the system" section. How long do you wait for a first round pick to develop before you call him a BUST? That is what kills me about guys who rail about the Smyth trade. Giving up Nillson was NOTHING!!! He was another of MM's first round BUSTS. Yes, losing O'Mara stinks and it was nice of Edmonton waste the first round pick we gave them by taking Plante a round early, but everyone knew this was a thin draft and no one predicted the Russian and Espo would drop that far, so enough griping. The deal is done. Let's move on. Otherwise, please give us more of your Carnac like predictions since you apparently know how the Isles offseason is going to end up already.
because Nillson is what, 22 years old? And it isnt just Nillson, it is Nillson, O Marra and the 15th overall, you dont trade those guys when you cant afford it, and even if we werent high on all those guys, that is a horrible way to deal with your assests,, if you have a Honus Wagner 1910 baseball card that is valued at 3 million dolalrs but yours is bent in half and is only valued at 1 million dollars, do you just give it away? no you get what you can for it, Snow made a horrible, absolutley horrible trade when he made that trade for Smyth and everyone says this is a thin draft, who the f#@k knows, at least 1/2 of 1st rounders always turn out to be legitimate NHL players, just look at the past 1st round drafts over the last 20 years, no one can ever tell the draft until 7 years later My predictions? Isles will most likely miss the playoffs this year, we may sign Comrie or someone else, Isles probably jacked their attendance up a little with the signing of Guerin, but we will again fall last in attendance and have a worse attendance then last year
Good lord. Look at your past posts.
First, no signing after July 1 was going to bring us closer to the 6th spot. I'm not sure any SINGLE signing on July 1 would have either. I'm not worried about the 6th spot right now. I'm worried about getting back to the playoffs and building. I realize how damaging July 1 was and I think it was a severe wake up call to Isles fans and management about how attractive the Isles org is to players no matter what we offer.
No one is saying getting Guerin is putting us over the top, but you are acting like we just signed Kasperitis to a 7 year deal. MANY teams had interest in Guerin. Look what SJ gave up to get him and he scored 8 goals in 16 games for them.
I'm not doubting your allegience to the Isles. I don't do that. However, you do need to get over July 1 and see what is out there. The LA Kings did and had an OUTSTANDING July 2. Look at who they signed...no top tier FAs but many second level FAs and they got better. Last year, we signed NO TOP TIER FAs. We signed Poti, Witt and Sillinger...and they are definite second tier FAs and we made the playoffs. I will take 3-4 more guys like that and be pleased. Not thrilled, but pleased.
I'm not someone who attacks on this board so lighten up. Your raging negativity is a bit much, but it is your right to have it. However, if you think getting Guerin is nothing more than "damage control" then I would question your hockey knowledge.

Comrie's agent was quoted as saying Guerin and Comrie talked to each other about coming to the Islanders. Comrie wants a one year deal to legtimize himself as a first line center: - Quote:
-
After learning of the Guerin signing, Winter said he expected negotiations for Comrie to continue tonight. Comrie is prepared to accept a one-year contract, Winter said, “for the opportunity to establish himself as a first-line center.” Landing Guerin, he added, makes it a more attractive destination for Comrie because “he would have a 35-goal scorer on the wing to pass the puck to.” http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/hockey/i...mrie_close.html
Depending upon the cash, I'd give him a 2 year deal. I know he's thinking "play with Guerin and load up the points this year then cash in as a FA again" but I'd lock him up for two years if you can get him to do it.
Comrie plays hard. Give him two years with a promise that he's going to get more icetime. What he wants is more icetime to prove he's a number one center and he wasn't going to get it in Ottawa. He will get it here.
Lock him for 2 years if the money is right.

looks like damage control to me.seems like garth trying to save face.
I like Guerin as a player, but he is 36 not 26. I hope he can produce 36 goals in this division with the talent he'll be playing with here. Better than nothing though.

if you can't stay positive, and say something positive, then don't say anything at all.. patience...positivity...Islanders Fans motto.... trust in garth, he is doing the right thing... hate me if you want, thats your right, but I am trying to be positive, I am trying to spread positivity to everyone I meet....whats wrong with that? what would you rather have? to be a positive person or a negative person?
Dont say anything at all!!!!!! Who the hell do you think you are to say that!! This is a message board for everyone not just you! I like the fact Snow signed Guerin but I do like to hear all opinions by all in this message board, positive and negative. Long as no one is being personal and slandering someone its OK!! FREEDOM OF SPEECH
I'm a fan trying to see the good in the organization. I'm tired of the losing just lilke everyone else. I'm tired of Islander fans being negative about certain good moves, when almost everyone else is high on it.
I will get mad, upset at certain moves the Isles make, and voice my displeasure with them, just like everyone else. But there is a time and place for good feedback and bad. When something good is happening with the Organization, I want to hear good things from Islanders fans.(vice versa with bad).
There is nothing good from negativity. Why would anyone want to hear it?
Please respond back.....

Billy Guerin is a BEAST, ladies and gentlemen. We are soon going to see that even at the age of 36, this guy competes like a wild man. Statistically, I think he's as good if not better than golden boy Ryan Smyth. I'm glad we'll have him around for two years.

let's reserve the positive/negative arguement for October shall we?
yes... Everyone has a right to express themselves, whether they are the voice of doom or Pollyanna.
Let's try not to fight amongst ourselves. If you don't agree, just disagree. Don't climb on each other because you don't share the same view.

Not an isles fan....
Not an Isles Fan?Who the hell are you to judge me? if we would have signed "some" of the team that we let go I'd be jumping for joy too by adding guerin.i think at this point it dont matter which of the remaining free agents we sign.signing theese players just to trade at the deadline dont make me want to run out and buy tickets.Garth is going to have to do alot better than that just to compete in our division, nevermind the conference.im still not convinced this just isn't damage control.theres alot of pressure on snow and he's under the microscope after 7/1.
I'm the guy who's forced to read your uneducated comments about Garth and the team. You may have webby to "vouche" for you as an isles fan but your words ring hollow to me... Apparently you know better than the rest of us that these moves are "pressure" moves and that these guys will just be traded at the end (although he has a NTC). You have no idea what you are talking about and I'm sick of the naysaying...You're a debbie downer and at this moment there is no need for it
LMAO a debbie downer thats funny.but what isnt funny is you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside because we brought in some old past his prime player after you let scorers leave that wanted to stay.im not fooled by this move.i dont post negatives about the isles but this move isn't taking any further than we were last year.you can get better by subtraction but i feel in this case the isles wont sell a season ticket unless they pretend to build us a quality team.Garth fell asleep at the wheel and this is damage control.i wish i wasnt such a "debbie downer" but i see it for what it is.sorry if you disagree
So Guerin who scored 36 goals last year is past his prime? And Blake is not?

I've got something for you guys that will probably only mean something to me... but it's a little freaky.
Guerin's birthday: 11/9/70 (he's a scorpio like yashin) Comrie's birthday: 9/11/80 (a virgo like blake)
Ok... to me... that's just a little wild.... but that's me...and how I view things.

I've got something for you guys that will probably only mean something to me... but it's a little freaky. Guerin's birthday: 11/9/70 (he's a scorpio like yashin) Comrie's birthday: 9/11/80 (a virgo like blake) Ok... to me... that's just a little wild.... but that's me...and how I view things.
does this mean we will be seeing a pic of comrie in your avator soon...
