Wasn't that where "Mr. August" was invented??

Hey...no. Eklund is never wrong. His sources are wrong, okay?
That was dripping with sarcasm, btw.

Oh gee, their not doing things the way I want them to. Boo Hoo. just because they're in the NHL doesn't mean they know what they're doing, but we sure as hell know what to do. Sorry M i B, but during the late 70's and early 80's I didn't see any ranger converts, just a lot of fighting in the stands.
not talking about converts... talking about new fans... plenty of people became islander fans over ranger fans because of the success... who in their right mind would choose to cheer for the isles now? its just basically dads forcing their kids to root for the islanders now.... and that is a sin because ur basically forcing a team that stinks with no hope anywhere on the horizon on to your child.. and as far as boohooing, every thread on this board ends up with boohooing... the team is one big boohoo... and we just keep eating the sh!t sandwiches they feed us....
I wouldn't want force my kid to be a fan...(that is if I had one). there ain't no boohooing here. the islanders are the proud owners of being a dynasty. Not many can say that. and soon there will be another dynasty from the new core group.
To be honest, I think the time of dynasties is over under this CBA.
Even some of the leagues most consistant and talented teams don't win every year. (see Detroit, Pitt, and NJ)

I think the Yankees are as close to a modern day dynasty as we're going to get in any pro sport.

Why are dynasty's a good thing anyway. The health of the whole league is better when the wealth is spread around. Minimizing teams like the Oilers or Milwakee Brewer's is a good thing. I consider Detroit to be a dynasty. They didn't win 3 or 4 in a row, but they've been at the top contending for the cup for 15 years now. What's better, 5 stanley cup finals appearances in a row, followed by a 10-15 year drought. Or 15 years of awesome hockey with 3-4 cups sprinkled over that span. I think I take the latter. Hard not to love the fact that the Isles did what they did in the early 80's though. I am just looking to get back to the playoffs with this team.

I would love for SNOW, BOTTA, STRANG anyone to provide the media video proof or access to DP skating so Islanders fans can not be so divided in their trust of the team.
A simple gesture like this can calm some of the naysayers.
Instead, I noticed a Katie Strang tidbit in her recent update.

DiPietro were also around but not on the ice. DiPietro skated yesterday, I was told.
Hope I'm wrong but we've been told he's skating but has anyone of the the cronies actually seen him skate since he supposedly started skating???
And yes, I do have every right to question this. (oh I can list the reasons why)

I see where you are coming from with regards to rather having 3-4 Cup wins over 15 years than 4 in a row. The one thing we do have with the former is that the Islanders will always be considered one of the last great dynasties. We are compared to the Canadians as one of the greatest dynasties of all time.
Our problem is that we went from dynasty to a solid team, to horrible, to kind of good back to where we are now. We never got back up there except for 93. 2002 could have been a great year if only we beat Toronto in that game 7.
I personally would rather have us be a #7/8 seed every year than go through a rebuild to try and get to a 2 or 3 seed.

Yeah, the "go with the kids" group forgets:
a 7th/8th seed need only make a few trades with a good GM to become a 3rd seed or better.
A rebuilding team has to hope its scouts pick the right kid who will in a few years be not good but very good. They have to do it a few times. Perfectly.
Philly had gahbage and some assets and sucked. They traded on up to the SCF. You still get to draft while you get quality players for your fans to pay to see, BTW.

Strang's latest on DP...

Just spoke with DiPietro, who said he feels good and is excited for some semblance of normalcy heading into TC
Maybe Garth doesn't need to make a decision on DP. Maybe he's 100% healthy with ZERO worry about the knee. Maybe he will return to form and guide us to the playoffs and beyond.
Maybe the tweet from Katie is just deja-vu?
I remember hearing that the last few seasons.

dont agree with this at all if we're talking about the teams we had in the past. They were veteran-laden teams that were pushing the maximum amount we could spend salary wise. so now you can't add any big time talent free agent wise and you're not getting impact players in the draft. We were going nowhere.
Everyone remembers philly in the finals but they made the playoffs on the last day of season in a shootout and should have been out in the 2nd round if boston didn't choke. I'd rather try to build something that can be a consistent contender than be a 7th/8th seed and hope for a miracle

To be honest, I think the time of dynasties is over under this CBA. Even some of the leagues most consistant and talented teams don't win every year. (see Detroit, Pitt, and NJ)
Yeah, the "go with the kids" group forgets: a 7th/8th seed need only make a few trades with a good GM to become a 3rd seed or better. A rebuilding team has to hope its scouts pick the right kid who will in a few years be not good but very good. They have to do it a few times. Perfectly. Philly had gahbage and some assets and sucked. They traded on up to the SCF. You still get to draft while you get quality players for your fans to pay to see, BTW.
dont agree with this at all if we're talking about the teams we had in the past.
I guess I should add:
IF we had a real GM in 2005, 2006, 2007, a real owner dedicated to winning and putting fans first, a desire to be in it every year.
Could we have turned lops who had talent into better? We turned Felix Potvin into some solid players. We turned Satan and Comrie and Fedotenko and Vasicek and so on into......gahbage.
I'm glad we got Tavares, but if we followed Philly's plan or Detroit's playbook, we draft strong and trade smart and sign wisely and go for it every year.
We follow ours and hope for Pittsburg but just as equally remember we are following Florida and Atlanta and Phoenix and so on.
Right now we sign like newbies, trades are RARELY done and even then rarely worthwhile (unless we hit lightning in a bottle with Wiz or Smyth). We're gambling on our farm being great......and Jankowski is gone, the foundation for our drafting argument.

"clearly it's Rick DiPietro's stupidity that's put the islanders in this situation getting into an altercation when a game was over..." Keith Jones on VS
"But the Coliseum became a repository for all the team's troubles, a convenient scapegoat. There were suggestions that no major free agent ever would set foot in such a decrepit place. We have two words for anyone making that argument: Fenway Park. History says free agents would play in an old boxcar if they got enough money and had a chance to win." - Mark Herrmann
