After the much-anticipated trip to China fell through and weeks of uncertainty about where training camp would be held, the Islanders have decided to remain on Long Island.

Islanders general manager Garth Snow said this will be the first time in a long while that the fans can be part of the camp (expected to begin September 17) as opposed to years past where they've been on the road.

"It's going to be exciting to have training camp right here in long island. Our fans haven't had that opportunity for the past few years and it should be fun to connect with the community," Snow said.

Another benefit to staying at home will be the decrease in travel compared to the action-packed, travel-intensive training camp of recent years.

"Absolutely, although there are pluses on having camp elsewhere, too, but the good thing about Long Island is there is a lot we can do team-building wise and with the community."

I bet they'll charge for parking and there may be some more of these entrance fees, you know for charity.

Training camp is supposed to be exactly tthat. TRAINING. Not community anything, sorry to say. There will be ample time for that on off days and I am all for giving back. But not during season preparation time.

I also think it is the time to bond as a team, away from all the crap.

Don't like it. Don't understand it. For chrissakes, go to Lake George or something.

Geeez, UpChuck, you ordering in take out at the rink for the team meal? Ya cheap bastid.

ALL I'LL SAY IS
I HOPE THEY HAVE IT AT THE COLISEUM AND NOT AT ICEWORKS
GIVE THE FANS SOME ROOM TO WATCH TRAINING CAMP
NOT LIKE WHEN THEY HAD IT AT ICEWORKS
WHERE YOU HAD TO EXHALE AND STEP BACK TO MAKE MORE ROOM

I checked the NVMC website and it looks like Elmo or Seaseme street is the 9/17-9/19 so maybe the first few days are at iceworks and then the rest at NVMC?

WOULD WE BE ABLE TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO?

COLISEUM PRIMARY SITE FOR CAMP
A few sessions will be open to the public
August 25th, 2010 by admin No Comments

Details of the Islanders’ first complete training camp in Nassau County in a long time are starting to surface, and the news is good for the die-hards. The Islanders have turned the fiasco of their cancelled trip to China into a public relations positive.

The majority of 2010 training camp will be held at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. There are plans to have at least one weekend session per week opened to the public.

With “Sesame Street Live” booked at the Coliseum from Sept. 16-19, Scott Gordon’s team will work out at Islanders Iceworks in Syosset. Since no other major events are scheduled for the arena until Oct. 8 (Slayer and Megadeth with Anthrax!), the Islanders will be able to practice where they play their games. With the road trip shortened from China to Uniondale, media coverage will be a lot stronger. The fans will get the occasional peek, too.

Stay tuned to the official team site for final details and a schedule. Although most of the roster is already decided by guaranteed contracts, the Islanders’ prospect base has deepened considerably over the last three drafts. This figures to be the most intriguing training camp since the Islanders’ veteran-based mini-revival a decade ago.

Okay, back to hiatus.

Not really. They'd probably get the same amount of media coverage in China that they get here. Nothing.
