GENEVA - NHL veteran Richard Park has signed a three-year contract with Swiss club Geneva-Servette. Coach Chris McSorley says the 34-year-old winger chose Geneva-Servette over NHL and European teams. Park has played 722 games in 16 seasons in the NHL, including the past four with the New York Islanders. McSorley tells The Associated Press he spoke with the Islanders' Swiss defenceman Mark Streit about Park before making him the top off-season acquisition. The club lost to Bern in the Swiss playoff finals last season in game seven. Park previously played in Switzerland with Langnau in 2004-05 during the NHL lockout season. http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=333184 |

Holy crap, the Isles apparently offered him a 2 way deal (according to Strang). That's Sim, Hilbert and Park, offered 2 way deals but 2 signed. Thank god Park signed overseas and refused Isles contract. Cannot wait for camp "it's all rose petals" in Isles-lala land to suggest it's no biggie, and saying we need leadership and vets at the AHL level. Wow. |

This franchise is so fukked up. Make 3 offers to guys who contributed to the past suckage because they can't get anybody else? Hey, just bring back the whole team from 2 seasons ago and add Tavares why don'tcha? Perfect plan to rebuild by El Cheapo. Even Mr. Pom Pom Botta writes that he can't believe how quiet it's been and the inactivity from NYI "management" this summer. A new high in low. I haven't checked this or any NYI board in 3 weeks and as I could've guessed, I didn't miss a thing. TOH, Cholly, Garth and Nassau have done the impossible - turned off a long time diehard into 98% not careing or being interested. Thank God for college football.

The franchise simply doesn't care about winning or has no clue how to put a winner together. To offer Park a two way deal in addition to Hilbert and Sim is just absurd. They don't even try to get better. And then to top it off and ask people to fork over huge sums of dough for tickets takes some set of balls. I still love the team, but they've sucked much of the enthusiasm out of me. |

They DON'T care. If this hasn't sunk in with the fans, then we're as hopeless as the owner and GM. |

If he only took the 2 way deal, I would've thought about buying a ticket plan. How much is a ferry ride these days, and do the soundtigers offer 15 game plans? Could you imagine Sim, Awesome Andy and Park on the same AHL team, man we would've ruled.

Nope. The fact that Park along with Sim and Hilbert (veteran 3rd/4th liners) were offered 2 way deals is what's disturbing but not surprising. This team needed a top 6 forward along with supplemental leadership to help Weight. alas, Park is gone and lookie here, Strang just tweeted that our Isles weren't the ONLY NHL team that offered him a 2 way deal. Who cares, the fact that we DID sucks. We deserve better. really do. |

I honestly have no idea why anyone is upset we tried to take two guys that were on one-ways, that no one liked, and put them on two ways. All it does is give the coaching staff and GM an easier way to move young guys from the Bridge to the Island. Snow said from 3 years ago that we were going to build from the draft. We're doing that, but until all the guys at the Bridge are ready, we need to fill those spots here. Snow thinks that this year is going to be the year a lot of them make the jump, so instead of signing guys on 1-ways and be locked into a spot, he tries to keep the same guys and be able to move them down. The argument that we should've added another top 6 forward doesn't hold water. All we'd be doing is paying more than market value for an extra year before our core of young guys is ready to make a run. It would be a waste of money. (I know I know "ALL THIS TEAM DOES IS TRY AND SAVE MONEY, THIS IS BULLSHIT, I HATE MYSELF AND THE ISLANDERS AND WAHHHH") This is (hopefully) the last year of the "rebuild" we've got our core guys, they're starting to contribute and carry the team. The goal this year is playoffs with what we got. Next year, we add a few missing pieces to the puzzle and we're straight. The season hasn't started and this board is flooded with negativity after a very good draft and a couple solid pickups in FA. Adding options (i.e. Sim and Hilbert) to sit in the Bridge waiting for the call if we need them isn't a bad thing, and if we need them to start off with the big club, then our young guys weren't ready for spots anyway, and we'd be terrible. |
