I could imagine having Tavares on wing and Bailey at center could be pretty lethal. |

Completely disagree with this article, except for the Esposito comparison. Tavares has very good puck carrying skills, has shown the ability to shoot or pass as the situation dictates and will only get better if allowed to do so. His mobility (although articles have documented that he has worked hard on improving that aspect of his game), will never be his strong point. And that's okay. It's not necessarily how fast you get somewhere on the ice as long as you anticipate and get to the RIGHT place at the right time. And he can certainly do that. I firmly believe the freedom a center enjoys benefits JT significantly. It allows him to "create" instead of "participate" in a play. And he can also benefit by being in the right place for rebounds and tic-tac-toe passes where he gets the puck back in prime scoring position, even after starting the play to the wing. Meaning he can create and participate more often as a center. I hope he plays center for us and for a long time. The wing? It closes him to one half of the ice. He has such great vision I think that would be a hinderance to his development rather than a help. Just my humble opinion. |

Same here Rifle. The Hawerchuk and Esposito comparisons are great examples if you forget the stick handling, finesse moves etc from Tavares. I saw alot of Espo and especially Hawerchuk in their prime. Not great skaters, but outstanding hockey sense and a willingness to go to the areas time and time again to make plays and score. With JT, we have a kid who may not be a fast skater but compensats for that mobility with quick thinking. I don't expect a Stamkos like breakout. I just want to see him grow as a player and learn how to absorb hits better. We dreamed of getting this kid 2 years prior to his draft as we debated everything about this team. Well, he's ours. Let's enjoy what the future brings as it relates to JT as an Islander. One of the few bright spots. |

If we got a primetime ace center who rivals Turgeon or Trottier, Tavares would be a GREAT winger...but we don't gots da tools to do it, and Tavares makes a solid centerman. The caveat: being a center gives you the initial open ice, but any winger with good linemates can dart around and get open. Tavares shouldn't be dismissed as just a center because he needs the room. Look at Bossy, Robitaille and Hull and what they could accomplish with solid centers. |

"clearly it's Rick DiPietro's stupidity that's put the islanders in this situation getting into an altercation when a game was over..." Keith Jones on VS "But the Coliseum became a repository for all the team's troubles, a convenient scapegoat. There were suggestions that no major free agent ever would set foot in such a decrepit place. We have two words for anyone making that argument: Fenway Park. History says free agents would play in an old boxcar if they got enough money and had a chance to win." - Mark Herrmann 查理斯 · 請死你混蛋 | |
