Insider film on Islanders in the works Originally published: September 21, 2010 8:45 PM By ARTHUR STAPLE arthur.staple@newsday.com Islanders training camp Hard Knocks, Islanders style? Maybe. A camera crew from New York-based IMG Media filmed yesterday's media day events as part of a proposed "Hard Knocks" type insider's view of the Islanders' 2010-11 season. The production company and the Islanders are working together through training camp to produce footage for a pilot to be pitched to sports television networks - think MSG Network more than HBO or TSN. If it sells, the crew will follow the team, most likely through practices and home games, and give a behind-the-scenes look at a hockey season. "It's in its beginning steps right now," said producer Ray Jacobs, whose crew had its first day of shooting Tuesday. In addition to filming the on-ice workouts and locker-room interviews, coach Scott Gordon and forward Trevor Gillies wore wireless microphones during practice. Owner Charles Wang was also miked before and during his state of the team news conference. "Charles is a willing and eager participant," Jacobs said. "He wants to get the team the exposure something like this might bring." IMG will pay a fee to the Islanders based on the sale of the pilot. A source said the idea was not shopped around the league, that the Islanders were more appealing because of the rebuilding of the team and the fact that they are not a sure contender. |

"exposure" Same way he wanted "exposure" in China for potential investors. Maybe it's just me, but IMO, this is a great way for Wang to showcase the team to a potential new buyer for him to sell to. THANK GOD. DO IT. Sell the team. I'm tired of the BS with this a-hole. |

At least none of the NYI will be caught eating cheeseburgers at practice. I'm in favor of this, actually -- I think the team and coaching will show their character; management / ownership probably come out looking good too -- they are not slick corporate types, probably works in our favor as much as it can be - ahem - amusing to late night message board posters. |

Whether they are doing it because of "IMG will pay a fee to the Islanders based on the sale of the pilot" or for the exposure, as Sybo says, from our seats as fans this should be great. Fans want to see their team on the ice or behind the scenes. I say good for them. |

Let's do it. What bad can come from it. Hmmmm, let me think. Oh yeah, Jon Sim napping in the weight room. DP hobbling around the locker room. The plumbing exploding and dumping hundreds of gallons of sh!t on the floor. Chunks of concrete falling off the barn. A half full parking lot and arena. Shots of the cupcake stand right next to the $9 beers (2011 price increase, no doubt). Doug Weight being refused admission to the locker room because they think he's a vagrant. Chuckie Wang getting lost walking from his office to the ice. Garth Snow arguing with Scott Gordon on who makes the team and who doesn't. Kabanov setting off firecrackers in the lobby. Bring it. It may actually embarass this franchise into becoming an actual professional sports franchise. Would it not be GREAT if they agree to do this for some small stipend and when it finally airs they are exposed as ameteurs running a failing franchise with no plan to fix it in sight? That would be priceless. |

Maybe they can include the constant bitching as a subtheme - fan involvement angle since NYI were the first blog-friendly pro sports team.... |

What has gotten old? The bitching or bitching about the bitching? I talk Isles hockey, praise the team when they deserve it but voice my opinion when they don't. In a few weeks, we may all be bitching or maybe not. Come on people, post away your thoughts on the Isles. No more lurking and PMing. Post away.
