Maybe unrelated, but I heard Bruno has filed for a legal name change to Gervaishnikov

This line went way underappreciated hahahaha

Don't players "defect" all the time? They should never have let him leave the Island after the prospects game.

What the hell could the Ruskies do? Start a war over it?

Then we could have said, look, we have the kid and he ain't leavin'. Take this $100k and let's call it a day.

I think part of the agreement between the KHL and NHL stipulates that if a player is under contract in the KHL he cannot play in the NHL until he is released.

but Russian players have skipped out on the remaining years of their deals in the NHL to go back to Russia, so why should the NHL honor such a deal if the KHL doesn't?

Only one, Radulov. And that was before NHL and KHL signed their agreement.

UPDATE:
Quote:

Notes: Kirill Petrov was traded within the KHL from Ak Bars to Yugra for a fifth round pick in the 2011 KHL draft. Since Ak Bars is a veteran-filled powerhouse and Yugra is not, this could lead to much more icetime for the talented Petrov. For the third straight season, Petrov was hardly playing for Ak Bars.

There is also the chance that Yugra, especially since all they gave up for Petriv was a fifth round draft pick, might be more amenable to a “discussion” about a “transfer” next year. This is potentially good news for the Islanders, who hope to have Petrov in North America next season or - at the latest - in 2012.

With that many veterans, playing I wonder how their advertising tracks vs. NHL....

Wait - this was about Petrov - would be great if the Yugra is more open to letting Petrov out.

Cost probably is going to be high relative to his uncertainty / tough call for Garth & Charles.... I guess we'll see what happens in next week or so with camp. Maybe that will clarify / push this to a next season issue.

All he is worth is a 5th round draft pick? Perhaps he is overrated in our system...

You would think for a 5th they could have let him go to America. It almost seems like they did him a favor by letting him go to another team, but then again, why not LI? There is something fishy going on with this. Who wants to go on a spy mission to Russia to infiltrate the KHL?

A fifth gets you the buyout money....remember.

A picture says a thousand words....the Islanders will only spend on two. Classic.

My understanding is that Petrov would have to buy out of his contract, the Islanders cannot do it for him. Maybe the fifth rounder is because he will be leaving for the Island in the next year or two?

We have to write him off until the fall of 2012. He's not coming here this season, and probably next so for me it's a non-issue, non-islander, non-hope of something special.

I sold it all, retired and moved to Fabulous Las Vegas!
