KOHN AGREES TO QUALIFYING OFFER
Defenseman will return for his fourth season with the Islanders

UNIONDALE, NY, July 15, 2010 – The New York Islanders announced today that they have agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way (NHL/AHL) contract with defenseman Dustin Kohn.

Kohn, 23, made his NHL debut last season with the Islanders, playing in 22 games and recording four assists. Prior to his late-January call-up, the Edmonton, ALT., native scored 17 points (2 goals, 15 assists) in 45 games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL. For his efforts, Kohn (6’2, 200 lbs.) was selected to play for the Canadian team at the 2010 AHL All-Star Classic. He also led the Sound Tigers in scoring during their First Round Calder Cup Playoff series against the Hershey Bears, with four points (2 goals, 2 assists) in five games.

“Dustin has developed steadily over the last few years and was very effective in his time with the Islanders last season,” said Islanders General Manger Garth Snow. “We look forward to having him as part of our organization next year.”

The Islanders selected Kohn in the Second Round (46th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. In three full seasons in Bridgeport, Kohn has totaled 46 points (9 goals, 37 assists) and 126 penalty minutes in 165 games. Prior to turning professional, Kohn spent four seasons in the WHL with both the Brandon Wheat Kings and the Calgary Hitmen, totaling 131 points (20 goals, 111 assists) in 253 games.

no worries, according to some fellow isles fans who dream up trades when they're not
making up line combos...

we should be trading Witt and a custom cupcake to be named later
to the Oilers for Souray.

Nick:

Why would you put a picture of Brendan Witt in this thread? :P
Authority without wisdom is like a heavy axe without an edge: fitter to bruise than polish.

Anger makes dull men witty, but it keeps them poor.

In the beginning, the Universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.

After a narrow victory in 1994, Boston Bruins defenseman Al Iafrate was asked why, in the closing moments of the game, he had fired the puck around the boards rather than into the empty net. His reply? "Empty-net goals are for faggots"
