Both Mark Streit and Kyle Okposo underwent successful surgery yesterday  at the Cleveland Clinic. Shoulder specialist Anthony Minaci, the same doctor who repaired Doug Weight's shoulder back in March, performed both procedures.

Streit suffered a shoulder injury one week ago during the team's intra-squad scrimmage and is expected to miss six months with a torn labrum, torn rotator cuff and dislocation in his left shoulder. Okposo sustained a torn labrum in his right shoulder and is expected to return sometime in December.

*Rob Schremp, who left the game with backs spasms Friday, underwent x-rays on his back today and is day-to-day.

**Also just spoke with Zach Parise about the type of player/person the Islanders are getting in Mike Mottau.

"He's one of the greatest guys I've ever played with. He's a great team guy, really funny, really good in the room, and as a player he was really reliable for us," Parise said.

Parise also said he was disappointed to hear the news about his friend and summer training partner Kyle Okposo:

"When I heard I just felt really bad for him," Parise said. "He worked so hard this summer and was really excited coming into the season. Now he doesn't even get to play."

Monday's practice (10/4) as per CB:

Quote:

Notes: Rob Schremp (back) remains out. Nino Niederreiter (bruised leg) is not on the ice yet, but could join practice. Awaiting word. Matt Martin (foot) skated before practice with skills coach Bernie Cassell and took shots on goalie Nathan Lawson.

12:20 pm, NVMC: The Islanders have announced that Rob Schremp will be sidelined 2-4 with a back injury. The center suffered the injury during the second period of the Islanders’ exhibition game in New Jersey on Friday. Schremp was walking around the Coliseum this morning, uncomfortably to say the least. Another big loss for the Islanders.

12:45 pm, NVMC: The Islanders have announced that John Tavares will be sidelined 2-4 months with a body flattening. The center suffered the injury when an elephant was frightened by a mouse in an alleyway and trampled a very Italian looking man who was painting a sill, and whose dolly rocked enough to slip, sending a paint bucket down onto a plank which catapulted an anvil onto a mover who let go of the rope which dropped the piano onto the center. Tavares was laying on the ground flattened, obliously in some pain this morning. Another big loss for the Islanders.
"clearly it's Rick DiPietro's stupidity that's put the islanders in this situation getting into an altercation when a game was over..." Keith Jones on VS

"But the Coliseum became a repository for all the team's troubles, a convenient scapegoat. There were suggestions that no major free agent ever would set foot in such a decrepit place. We have two words for anyone making that argument: Fenway Park. History says free agents would play in an old boxcar if they got enough money and had a chance to win." - Mark Herrmann

I would guess then with all the feel good news about Dougy Weight playing better since shoulder surgery...he will start the season as the second line center....also helps get the roster down to 23.
