Here's the injury - (King's comment on Moulson is ironic)

http://www.blick.ch/sport/eishockey/nhl/ma...nate-aus-157378

THIS is why ya never cheap out with the payroll. It just takes an injury to Roloson or Streit to destroy any hope of competing and the margin for error is just too small with no comparable replacements or even less than close replacements within.

I have no faith in Snow getting an outside replacement, no faith in Cholly spending for it and no faith in the kids stepping up.

Good thing Martinek will be healthy all season to fill the void until he goes down Opening Night!!

The hawkey gawds got Cholly back for dumping Trotts & Jaffe. :P :o

Edit - I would also like to add that if the Isles weren't suppose to be China there wouldn't have been an inter-team scrimmage and this injury would/could have happened at a pre-season game....would that have made it better that some rookie from another team could have caused this???? It was a freak accident!!!

And if they were in China it could have been the very same inter-squad type scrimmage. You don't know, you can't ask yourself why, it just sucks and you have to move on from here. There will still be 20+ guys on the roster, and if we can find some success in the coming season, we can then look to bolster any success with the return of Streit in the spring. It'll be like a top FA pickup at the trade deadline.

I sold it all, retired and moved to Fabulous Las Vegas!

I agree Webby that it could have just as easily happened in China.....AND could image the outcry if it did??? The anger and venom would be unstoppable if it happen in China. I'm getting the shakes just thinking about it.

We can do a lot of things here but blaming Moulson isn't one of them. It seemed harmless enough but Streit fell in an awkward way. I'm sure no one feels worse than MM does today.

In any case, injuries are part of the game and while this one hurts more than possibly any other, we have to move on.

Let's see what they do. I am not in favor of automatically pulling the trigger on anyone, including KO or Bailey to get Kaberle. We will once again regret that move and be complaining about it for years to come. Those move NEVER work out for us.

I think we need to take a breath, look at what we can do and do the RIGHT thing, whatever that is.

I suggest that we RESPOND and that we do not REACT.

And the season, playoffs or whatever are still in front of us so no, I am not giving up that easily. I am a realist and in reality we will be a team that I hope improves over last year.

And what would be wrong with one of our young guys coming up? Baptism by fire? Yes. But when you have limited options thats what you go with.

As for Wang spending to fill the spot? Forget it. We signed Sim and Weight and we will do the same here- sign some non-descript has been to get to the cap floor with an excuse attached.

And I couldn't help but notice on the video that it is DP helping him off the ice.

What'd he say? I think something like this:

"No worries, Streiter, this dopey organization will pay you to get fat and smoke dope for two or three years. You got the million dollar wound, son. You're going home!!!!!"

Streit's life would not be at risk getting medical attention in NY. In China? Their medical staph? I mean staff?

Thank GOD we didn't see this happen in China. Moulson would never be heard from again. :crying2:

I went to NHL.com but I can't find the story where we forfeited the season because Streit is out. That is what everyone is this thread is talking about, right? Since there is no possible way we can compete...might as well give up.

Wiz is here and Streit, IMHO, had an off year (after his great one) last year. Now I read some want DeHaan up.

We won't be that bad at all.....says the pessimist. :o

Some, not all of us. ;) But you can't deny this is a major setback for the Isles.

Mark Streit speaks about shoulder injury 9 m ago By Katie Strang
Two days after seriously injuring his left shoulder during an intra-squad scrimmage, 32-year-old Swiss defenseman Mark Streit spoke to Newsday about how he's feeling and what lies ahead. "I'm really disappointed," Streit said. "I was shocked, obviously, when it happened. I knew it was goig to be a pretty serious injury, but I'm just now starting to realize I'm really going to miss some time." Despite the significant time he will likely miss--Newsday reported yesterday he is expected to be out six months with a torn rotator cuff, torn labrum and possible dislocation--Streit is trying to remain optimistic. "Things happen out there. It's unfortunate, but I can't change it and I'm just thinking positively and trying to move forward. I'll get the best solution possible--whether that's surgery or whatever i need --and after that, I'll start rehabbing and trying to come back as soon as possible." Streit said he recently talked to teammate Matt Moulson, who was involved in the play when he was injured, and assured him he wasn't to blame. Streit said he tried to carry the puck up along the boards and stopped to change direction, at which point he was hit by Moulson and fell awkwardly, reaching out with his left arm to catch his fall. "I knew then that my shoulder was probably dislocated," Streit said. "It's unfortunate, but I'm definitely not blaming him. It's a sport and things like that happen." Over the past few days, Streit said he has received an overwhelming show of support from his teammates. "I love the guys on the team. In the two past years, it's been a great atmosphere. Even this year it's a good, young hungry team that made some veteran additions on the back end. It's unfortunate I'm gonna miss a lot of time, but other guys are capable of carrying the load. Maybe not only one guy, but the whole team. We have some very skilled younger players and I'm positive that things like that can have a positive reaction on the team. Everyone will play a little harder, play a little better." Streit, who will await an evaluation from specialist Dr. Anthony Miniaci of the Cleveland Clinic before setting a date for surgery or definitive timetable, hopes to have that resolved soon so he can begin his rehab. "The most important thing is to get surgery or whatever I need and to make some sort of schedule or time frame," Streit said. "Most importantly, I'm going to stay positive. I'm a big believer that a positive attitude and positive feelings heals the body quicker."

As someone who went through 3, yes 3 surgerys on the same shoulder, I can say from experiance that rehab is the 1 most important thing. OK, this happened, it sucks, we need to move forward. As hard as it is after all these years, we need to stay positive. On another note. The no radio deal REALLY SUCKS!!!

Isles' Moulson trying not to blame himself

By Brian Compton
- NHL.com Staff Writer

UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- The last 48 hours have been extremely difficult for Matt Moulson, but the New York Islanders forward cheered up a bit on Sunday following a phone conversation with an injured teammate.

"I talked to Mark yesterday," Moulson said of Mark Streit, who suffered a severe shoulder injury following a collision with Moulson at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum during a scrimmage on Saturday morning. "I think I kind of replayed what happened in my head probably a million times. Obviously, I feel horrible about what happened. But I don't think I could have done anything differently. I didn't hit him or anything. It was kind of a freak play."

Nobody knew the severity of Streit's injury -- Newsday reported that it's a torn labrum and rotator cuff that will require surgery -- until Sunday, but Moulson had a pretty good idea of visiting Streit in the trainer's room after Saturday's scrimmage.

An alternate captain and undoubtedly the team's No. 1 defenseman, the Islanders are now forced to play nearly the entire season without Streit. The 32-year-old had 11 goals and 38 assists for the Isles in 2009-10, when he averaged 25:41 of ice time per game.

"Seeing him in that kind of pain … I came in to see him when he was in the training room, it makes your stomach turn a little bit," Moulson said. "Streiter is probably one of the top 'D' in the League. It's just one of those things. It's obviously very unfortunate for him and this team.

"I don't know if there's anyone in the League who has had as much responsibility as Mark has had on this team the last couple of years. It's going to take everyone to step up to try and kind of fill that hole. He's a big part of our team playing the minutes he does -- he's the quarterback on the power play and he's phenomenal on the penalty kill. It's not like he had one role on this team. He is our MVP. It's going to be a tough challenge, but it's something we have to face together."

Isles coach Scott Gordon certainly knows Moulson was not to blame for what happened. Moulson had one hand on his stick and the time that contact was made as Streit lost his edge and went into the boards.

"It wasn't even a cross-check; it was a free hand," Gordon said. "That same thing could have happened three times on just one play, and it didn't happen. That's just bad luck for everybody and real bad luck for Mark. He looked good. He's certainly a big hole for us that we have to fill."

Moulson admitted he was afraid of Streit's reaction when he reached out to the latter on Sunday, but was relieved when Streit absolved him of any wrongdoing.

"I was just hoping he wouldn't say, 'What the heck are you doing?'" Moulson said. "We talked about it and he said, 'Don't worry about it. It completely wasn't your fault.' It's good to hear. I try not to blame myself on something like that. It is the game of hockey and things happen. But anytime you're involved with anything with a teammate or any player and that kind of severity happens, it's tough to deal with. The last couple of days, I've been having a hard time. But talking to him helped me a little bit."

Moulson and the Isles begin the 2010-11 season on Oct. 9 against the Dallas Stars on Long Island. While there's a chance GM Garth Snow might make a move to help ease the blow of Streit's absence, New York is forced to move forward either way.

For Moulson, that's easier said than done.

"You look back at it say, 'How does that happen on something like that?'" Moulson said. "I don't know how exactly he went into the boards. But if you're put in that scenario 100 times, maybe it happens 1 out of 100. It's just something that you can't really control."
