Of course, as pointed out somewhere here (or elsewhere) one of the real added benefits of this trade is that it allows our kids to "over-ripen" in the minors. DeHaan can stay at Oshawa and Hamonic goes to the 'Bridge. Wiz looked like he was asking for a long-term deal in excess of 4 million from the Ducks (see link below). Anyone here think he is worth that? http://www.ocregister.com/sports/ducks-260...iewski-jpg.html |

very good trade..bout time..at the very least, we now will see less of bruno..perhaps bruno will get promoted for a pr position now since he's so good at it... good thing about this trade, its only for one year..he gets to prove himself...so I'm expecting a mark streit like first season.... |

Great trade. To get a player like this for a 3rd round pick is very exciting. Absolutely a salary dump by Anaheim, but who cares. We've been waiting for two years to reap the benefits of another team's "salary dump". Wisniewski is young, can skate, can move the puck, stands up for teammates, throws the body, has a mean streak. Can't ask for anything more from this deal. If this guy was 6'2 we would have needed a hell of a lot more than a 3rd rounder to get him. As Smitty said above, it allows our D prospects to remain prospects. We now have an NHL caliber defense. And hopefully it means that Bruno will be banished from the Island. |

I'm very happy with this aquisition, especially since the cost was so low. I see Wiz as being our #2 d-man and basing the depth chart below on what Botta posted last week...who sits with Bruno? 1) Streit 2) Wiz 3) Eaton 4) Hillen 5) Martinek 6) MacD 7) Jurcina 8) Gervais Will Jurcina sit until Marty gets hurt? |

I doubt it. Who knows if Martinek will even return to his form of two or three years go. I'm not a Jurcina fan, but he's going to play. MacDonald and Radek I can see fighting for that 6th spot. |

They are planning for lots of injuries, as per the last several years. They probably need 10 solid blue liners to get through the season. |

I'm not sure thanks are in order, but here's to you Dr. G, for re-affirming the old adage that given enough time, anything in this universe can happen. You have officially made a sh!tty post. Welcome to the club and I guess maybe we should thank you for making us all feel better about ourselves this morning! |

That package wouldn't fetch the paper in the morning. Gervais is looking like he won't have any PT for US, why would a decent team want him? He sucks!!! Ness hasn't shown he can even progress properly as a prospect. Martinek is injury prone and 33 and who knows if he will sign another nhl contract when this one is up. You'd be lucky if that package picked up up a 4th line center. Right now the Ducks are at 44 million and they don't have Ryan signed nor do they have more than 5 dman signed. This was a salary move. It cleared 3.2 million off their books...which will likely go to Bobby Ryan. We might have missed out on Chicago's salary dump, but we did a nice job here. I have no doubt Ken Morrow had a say in this one. The way it should go down is Garth should have had Ken targeting fair priced players from cap struggling teams that could make an impact for us and fill needs. That definitely happened here. Keep in mind that the only Dmen we have under contract for 2011 are Streit, Eaton and Andy Mac. |

That is a great point about the d prospects. No need to rush them. However, it would be nice if Hamonic makes the decision to send him the bridge really difficult by playing well in camp. We shall see by his play if he's worth 4 mill. We will essentially have the first half of they year to evaluate that decision. Plus, we have so few guys signed through next year on the blueline, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Isles offer him a deal that overpays him at 4 mill for 3 seasons if he looks ok. I'm very pleased by this move. |

Well, he should. EVery player should, especially defensemen. EVen Potvin wore one his last few seasons with the Isles. I get your point about him being willing to drop the mits, but a helmet can always be removed. Ask Bryan Berrard. I'll never understand why dmen don't wear them. QUESTION- Does anyone remember how we ended up with a 3rd rounder from Colorado that could end up as the conditional pick we move in this deal? |

but I4C, you know it's the code in the NHL. Those who do not wear visors are prepared to take matters into their own hands, and those who do are usually left with no choice when forced to. |

Looking at Chicago's pay scale I can't believe the money they are paying. They have 3 forward contracts above 6.5 million and 2 contracts above 7 mill on defense. They rignt now stand at 17 guys under contract and are still half a mill above the cap ceiling without their goalie signed. Unfortunately, Brian Campbell's cap hit of 7.14 mill runs through the end of the 2015/2016 season. Six more seasons. I'd be very hesitant to take him. If he could play conssistenly average defense like he did last year, I might take that on. But considering he was LOST defensively the season prior, plus, we are going to have to resign contracts of kids we want to keep within those six years, that makes me very dicey on that deal. I could see offering the Hawks Martinek for him straight up. They'd get a guy who doesn't make alot (1.9 mill cap hit), so the Hawks would shave 5.2 million off their cap to go sign other players. We'd get another PP defensemen who showed he was OK defensively and if things get tight moneywise , sorry, I forgot I was talking about Wang, but if we need space to get kids like KO, JT and others signed, I could see us at worse doing with Campbell what we did with Witt...send him down and then waive him and buy out the deal.I'm not so sure I'd want to take a run right now at Campbell, but other teams certainly would have poachable talent that are up against the cap... According to nhlnumbers.com, it looks like Boston is 2 mill over the cap Calgary is 3 mill Vancouver is 3 mill over and NJ is 3 mill BELOW the cap ceiling unless the Kovy deal goes thur. If it does, then they are 3-4 million OVER the cap ceiling and will need to dump salary. I'd be looking at those rosters to see if there is someone we want to give them "cap relief" and fill a needed hole for us. |

Oh yeah Webby. I know. You shouldn't go looking to start a fight...throw a few and then say..."wait, let me take off the visor". That ain't cricket. However, I think it is idiotic for anyone to play in the league without one. It amazes me that there aren't more eye injuries in the fashion of Berrard with all the high sticks and high shots that are taken. We'll never see a guy like Brashear wear one, but I just think it isn't worth the risk of not seeing again. |

i know we need to take it with a grain of salt but I like it when I read stuff like the following, whether on hockey buzz or anywhere. On the NY Islanders and Garth Snow... Following the STEAL of a trade Garth Snow made for James Wisniewski last night, I had a discussion with a very respected GM in the NHL and we both agreed "Garth Snow is a very underrated GM, and at times uses that fact to his advantage." |
