check out the comments from some fans...not sure if accurate, or something for us to look at come season...Wiz has some proving to do this year...I won't get my hopes up high on him...would be nice to see another "mark streit" steal...

Well I think we should all wait & watch how Wiz does this year before making judgments about this trade. This guy is not underrated though.Niedermayer-Wiznewski was not a good pairing last year.Maybe he will be more consistent this year. But dont be shocked if he ends up being a frastrating player to watch.I loved his physical presence, skating & the 30 points he brought. It sucks he wasnt more consistent defensivly because when he was good, he was one of our best defenseman. Most nights he was not though.Coughs up the puck a LOT.Especially from the point in the offensive zone, & down low in the defensive end. Also takes penalties at bad times,& goes for the big hit often, finding himself out of position. We have defensive issues obviously. But Wiz was a big reason for it to.

Reminds me of Rich Pilon.

Isles announced that Wisnewski will wear #20.

Bergenheim jerseys on sale now at Modell's & Isles team stores.

If you look on the first page you get when you go to the NYI site it has him standing there in the away jersey. But, he has a mic clipped on and number 10...so its probably Ninos jersey photoshopped on. Zheesh.

better even, if you click refresh, you'll notice they cycle FREE AGENT signings.
It's pretty pathetic.

You'll see Streit in a Canadiens jersey on one side, Isles jersey on the other...
Matt Mouslon in a Kings jersey on one side, Isles jersey on the other...
Dwayne Roloson in an Oilers jersey on one side, Ilses jersey on the other...
P.A. Parenteau in a RAGS jersey on one side, Isles logo on the other...
Zenon Konopka in a BOLTS jersey on one side, Isles logo on the other...
P.A. Parenteau in a RAGS jersey on one side, Isles logo on the other...
Milan Jurcina in a CAPS jersey on one side, Isles logo on the other...
and last but not least, Mark Eaton in a PENS jersey on one side with an Isles logo on the other...

This is a representation of Isles free agents the last 3 years and the team is trying to show fans that they are spending money. But we know better. Cap floor.

Really, this subliminal advertising is no big deal to me, just the fact that they threw in a RAGS jersey really sucks. Should have left that out IMO.

Coincidence that I bitch and moan about the team's obvious attempt at
subliminal advertising of free agent signings over the last few years (see quoted entry).

Well, now, lo and behold they have a new background on the Isles site.

I actually LOVE it. They did a great job. White new throwback jersey.
The Isles get an A for this one. Looks good to me. No great!

James Wisniewski visits LI and talks upcoming season

Wednesday August 4, 2010 4:31 PM By Katie Strang

Newest Islanders defenseman, 26-year-old James Wisniewski, flew in with his wife Tuesday night for a two-day visit to Long Island.

The recently-wed couple (Wisniewski had returned from his honeymoon in Maui/Figi only four days prior to last week's trade) planned on scouring the area Wednesday to look for places to set up shop with their two dogs.

But before they set out for their real-estate rendez-vous and night on the town in Manhattan, Wisniewski paid a visit to Nassau Coliseum to meet with general manager Garth Snow and work out with team strength and conditioning coach Jesse Demers. Afterwards, he took some time to speak about the upcoming season. Read that here.

*Also saw d-man Radek Martinek and Russian prospect Kirill Kabanov in the hallways of NVMC. Martinek said his knee feels great and seemed to be in great spirits. Kabanov, who has remained on LI since prospect camp, said he's been diligent in his off-season regimen, working out hard every day and going home early every night to read and get a good night's rest. Sounds like he is really making the most with the second chance the Islanders have provided him.

Wisniewski looks for new start with Islanders

Hours after signing a one-year,  $3.25 million deal with Anaheim last week, James Wisniewski hit the gym. When he finished his workout, he glanced down at his phone to see five missed calls. Wisniewski then called Ducks executive David McNab right away.

Upon hearing the news he had been traded to the Islanders, Wisniewski didn't express anger, frustration or even bewilderment at the way events had transpired that day. Instead, Wisniewski gave McNab a response he was likely not expecting.

"I said, 'Perfect. This will be sweet,' " Wisniewski recalled Friday night after being shipped out East.

Fast forward five days and the 26-year-old defenseman is just as eager to be a part of the Islanders. He's in town for a two-day visit getting comfortable with his new surroundings.

Emerging from the locker room after a workout, Wisniewski cracks a joke with the team trainer, greets the summer sales staff with a friendly hello in the hallway and solicits advice from a team official on the best places to live with his wife and two dogs.

"I'm really excited about this situation, coming into the beginning to middle stage of a rebuilding team where there is a foundation of some great, young talent," Wisniewski said. "I think I'll be able to be an important player to this team and hopefully be a tier-one defenseman."

Before being traded to Anaheim in 2009, Wisniewski was part of a core group of young defenseman in Chicago, including the dynamic tandem of Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook. He was part of the early stages of a team that went on to win the Stanley Cup this season. He was disappointed that he wasn't a part of that magical run, but feels there is a opportunity for something similar on Long Island.

"I saw it as a big positive to come to a team that really, really wanted me," Wisniewski said. "I'm excited to play with a guy like Mark Streit, a premier defenseman who I've always said is one of the most underrated guys in the league. If I can play with him on the power play, then I think I'll be able to show my potential as an offensive guy as well."

Although general manager Garth Snow added defensemen Mark Eaton and Milan Jurcina earlier in July, Wisniewski has been the most notable addition to the Islanders' back end this summer. Snow was looking for an upgrade on defense and got that in the rugged blue-liner, who had 3 goals and 27 assists in 69 games for the Ducks while averaging 24 minutes and 20 seconds of ice time per game last season.

"I only know one way and that's 100 percent," Wisniewski said. "I'll hit, block shots, make offensive plays and when the time is right, I'll fight as well. I'll be someone who is in the game with one minute left who is trying to score the game-winning goal and prevent it as well."

Ironically, juxtaposed against the bronzed plaques of Islanders greats from the dynasty years that line the walls in Nassau Coliseum, Wisniewski reflected on what he'd like to accomplish while on Long Island.

"Hopefully, I can be part of the glory days here," he said.

Oh boy, this is going to be great.

great article, love to hear not only he wanted to come here, but that he wants to be the go to guy, a leader on the ice, one who wants the puck in crucial situations. He's exuding confidence and I think we'll be happy watching him day in and day out.

I sold it all, retired and moved to Fabulous Las Vegas!

Isn't it nice when they report the news? No airport stories, last meal etc bs. No one cares, you're not the celeb people care about.

Katie Strang may be catching on even though she's not allowed to question anything and has to remain 100% positive.

This was one of the best articles she's written since she's started.

Just noticed this.

Nobody beats the Wiz.

I hope he winds up being the guy who not only plays for a new contract but earns it and takes that next step. His minutes should help out Jack Hillen physically who won't get more top 4 minutes and should be less taxing on his body. We can only hope.

This acquisition is still one of the best and biggest stories of this off season.
Both good and bad.Wish there were one or 2 more but these are the cards we're dealt.

ok..er, based on that evidence..perhaps he might be suspended for a game..although, I hope not..come..to think of it, avery wasn't much of a factor in the game after that..I wonder why? maybe the nhl will overlook this..

Not when the offense was committed by an Islander. My prediction, 2 games.

2 games is excessive for that..especially if he isn't a repeat offender..I would agree from botta that its one game, but I see your point, Islander so I expect the worse..
