Isles deserted without radio

Yikes! With their season starting Oct. 9, the Islanders still are without a radio station. Last season their TV feed was simulcast on two Long Island stations.

Maybe we can get Chris Dey to stop rubbing his macadamia nuts in Hawaii and come back

And we call ourselves a professional sports team. :disgraced:

I sure hope they get this remedied by opening day. If nothing else get us a post game show we can listen to for the ride home from the coliseum.

I sold it all, retired and moved to Fabulous Las Vegas!

Hey, I'm in Jersey and can NEVER get any radio. If I'm at one of my son's travel games or whatever, I'm lost. Best i can do is blackberry NHL.com and hope for the best.

What I can do is hit seek and get the friggin' BOSTON BRUINS live!

Go figure.

Anyway, this just cements us as a JV franchise.

What a joke.

When a deal is found, will the audio be in Mandarin Chinese?

"clearly it's Rick DiPietro's stupidity that's put the islanders in this situation getting into an altercation when a game was over..." Keith Jones on VS

"But the Coliseum became a repository for all the team's troubles, a convenient scapegoat. There were suggestions that no major free agent ever would set foot in such a decrepit place. We have two words for anyone making that argument: Fenway Park. History says free agents would play in an old boxcar if they got enough money and had a chance to win." - Mark Herrmann

You guys and gals got some nerve. Wang's next innovation will be when Howie Rose leans out the window and starts broadcasting. It'll save a bunch of money.

Played golf last Monday and met two guys from the promotions department for the Red Bulls. They said things are going great. New arena, tv and radio coverage, marketing efforts AND REASONABLE PRICING (their words, not mine) have resulted in average attendance of 20,000. They even topped their high attendance for a WEEKDAY game at 21,000.

So, yes, they have passed us.

And it just goes to show what can be done with intelligent business plans.

Attention Wangeroonie, you listenin"?

They can afford to be reasonable with their ticket pricing in a league where the average player makes <<100k.

We, unfortunately cannot be reasonable with ticket prices, since hockey players make a lot of money, and we, the fans take on their salaries.

Ticket pricing is a direct contributor to attendance.

Losing + high ticket prices => low attendance, small fanbase => small advertising income => no radio.

I understand your point but you're missing mine. If we had a solid business plan in place we could certainly generate the revenue necessary to pay players, promote the franchise and have reasonable pricing. Some things are curently out of their control, like parking and concession pricing which I believe they inherited from past ownership and will have to deal with until they can be renegotiated.

But there is no excuse for a half filled arena on ANY night. An empty unpaid seat generates exactly zero dollars. Negotaiting TV contracts and radio deals is something all pro franchises do TO GENERATE REVENUE. 15 million dollar contracts and being cheap when ity comes to FA's is on them. What they do with the money is the issue. They do not spend wisely, they have no plan and seeem to make decisions based on the flavor of the day.

The result? A JV franchise in a Varsity league.

My point about the Red Bulls is that THEY HAVE A PLAN and it is working.

We DO NOT and that is why we are where we are as a franchise. An embarassment. So much so even our GM says we're like a cheap hotel versus a top level resort so why would anyone disgrace themselves by coming here? The only thing i disagreed with in his statement was "if the money is the same". It isn't, other teams pay more.

Because they have a plan.
