When a deal is found, will the audio be in Mandarin Chinese?
Isn't a mandarin a string instrument?

it's an orange.

I like your joke, but spent a good amount of time in a Chinese Restaurant in my younger daze. My joke is phonetic.
If I have to explain the joke, it already bombed.

orange you glad I didn't say banana?

(or shoulder injury)

:crickets:

Groan. Aren't ya glad I did not say groin!

OK, stop me if you heard this one before....

Building and Rebuilding were in a boat
Building fell out - who was left?

I guess it makes more sense with Pete & "Repete" -- how about this

Pete and RePete were in the Coliseum
endlessly promising a Rebuild
Pete fell out
Who was left?

Hold on - my inner comedian just put me on speaker - he says "Don't quit your day job" -- damn, getting heckled by my own alter ego, that's low

Played golf last Monday and met two guys from the promotions department for the Red Bulls. They said things are going great. New arena, tv and radio coverage, marketing efforts AND REASONABLE PRICING (their words, not mine) have resulted in average attendance of 20,000. They even topped their high attendance for a WEEKDAY game at 21,000.

So, yes, they have passed us.

And it just goes to show what can be done with intelligent business plans.

Attention Wangeroonie, you listenin"?

Losing + high ticket prices => low attendance, small fanbase => small advertising income => no radio.

Stop making excuses and defending the absurdity. They spend millions to buy out Yashin and Witt, 15 years for DP, spend for the planned trip to China yet can't spend a few hundred K for radio?

It's a complete joke and is symbolic how poorly this franchise is run and how they don't have a clue. They can spend where they want and they CHOOSE not to have radio.

You'd think with DUMB DUMB Dey gone they would have fixed the radio disaster but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...........

They can afford to be reasonable with their ticket pricing in a league where the average player makes <<100k.

We, unfortunately cannot be reasonable with ticket prices, since hockey players make a lot of money, and we, the fans take on their salaries.

Ticket pricing is a direct contributor to attendance.

Losing + high ticket prices => low attendance, small fanbase => small advertising income => no radio.

I understand your point but you're missing mine. If we had a solid business plan in place we could certainly generate the revenue necessary to pay players, promote the franchise and have reasonable pricing. Some things are curently out of their control, like parking and concession pricing which I believe they inherited from past ownership and will have to deal with until they can be renegotiated.

But there is no excuse for a half filled arena on ANY night. An empty unpaid seat generates exactly zero dollars. Negotaiting TV contracts and radio deals is something all pro franchises do TO GENERATE REVENUE. 15 million dollar contracts and being cheap when ity comes to FA's is on them. What they do with the money is the issue. They do not spend wisely, they have no plan and seeem to make decisions based on the flavor of the day.

The result? A JV franchise in a Varsity league.

My point about the Red Bulls is that THEY HAVE A PLAN and it is working.

We DO NOT and that is why we are where we are as a franchise. An embarassment. So much so even our GM says we're like a cheap hotel versus a top level resort so why would anyone disgrace themselves by coming here? The only thing i disagreed with in his statement was "if the money is the same". It isn't, other teams pay more.

Because they have a plan.

 Yes!

You guys and gals got some nerve. Wang's next innovation will be when Howie Rose leans out the window and starts broadcasting. It'll save a bunch of money.

Don't give Cholly any ideas. He might just do it for real.

So does this mean they're going to keep doing that crap where you hear the tv broadcast audio on, say 94.3 or whatever it used to be? First time I found that on the dial I couldn't believe my ears. Incredibly lame. Why bother at that point, ya know? I can't stand those dopes calling the tv game as it is.

What can work against the red bulls over time is that the mls stands for minor league soccer. Only players that are in the tail end of their careers come to the mls. And of all the players on the U.S's world cup roster, 4 play in the mls.

So basically will the league last with sub par play in a country where the sport isnt popular? A lot of soccer fans (myself included) watch a european league. So will mls last? Maybe maybe not.

At least the isles are in the nhl the best hockey league in the world.

with 7 pm starts it sucks for some of us who commute home and miss a good portion of the opening period sometimes.

Last year I complained about the radio nonsense when I discovered I would sometimes get the TORONTO games on am 900 some nights. This while Isles games were simulcast and choppy at times.

We deserve better, really do.

NO RADIO + 7 PM STARTS = CLASSIC NYI FAILURE

I can get Sabres games on the radio but not a team that plays 17 miles from where I live.

According to Botta, the team is close to an agreement with Hofstra to broadcast games on their airwaves. Students would run the broadcast, but at least the signal can be heard outside the arena and that stupid simulcast would be history.

There are about 1000 things to complain about with the Islanders and this is number 1000 for me. I don't think I've ever listened to a whole hockey game on the radio. It is not a very radio friendly sport. I understand it would be nice to hear the post game show on the way home from games but in the grand scheme of things this is just a minor inconvenience IMO. Just build a winning team and worry about a radio station later. If this season is what I envision with the injuries to Streit and Okposo you'd be better off listening to a nice CD on your drive home.
