Isles still without radio deal

You can call me Joe.
Stuck in boring sales training session in Boston, figured I'd chime in.

I rely on the radio broadcasts frequently when I'm on the road - looks like they have at least a stream, haven't tried it yet.

Hard to say anything about the talent / level of broadcast until this actually goes on air.

Signal strength is embarrassing - maybe they can syndicate to another station (that wasn't interested in broadcasting in the first place?)....

Trying to stay positive here guys.

p.s. Looks like I picked a good time to change my signature photo

Instead of bitching and moaning about how bad things are here, just go and find another team to watch.

You can have a good arena, or watch them in HD, OR even listen to them on the radio. Hell, you might even pick a team that will win the cup.

ahem, if you have to work at TRYING to stay positive about this team, it speaks volumes
as to how bad things have gotten.

The bitching and moaning is a damn byproduct of the incompetence this owner has cast over this team and many of it's loyal fans who refuse to look the other way and sing kumbaya.

Obviously the fans are speaking volumes when the team has RAISED ticket prices while not improving the team.
The proof????

40% off tix for the opener.

I'm with steve on this one.

To one it may seem like bitching but to another it's viewed as passion about a team that we love. This radio deal is just a glaring example of how things are. It's a respect-thing. No more, no less. Outside of our own community of fans, we have none and people get sick and tired of being a punchline.

You're stuck with us, Oldie. We're all in this together.

With all due respect I have not read many, or any posts of unquestioned optimism on this board. Who really thinks this team is gonna compete for a playoff spot now that their two best players are out? If by thinking this team was gonna at least compete for an 8th seed come spring time before the injuries is singing kumbaya then guilty as charged.
I just dont see any posters on here with much hope for this year to do much of anything. What I do see is some posters looking at individual performances to look forward to throughout the season. Am I wrong? And just because oldie and myself dont share your rancor towards this owner doesn't mean we are satisfied with what is going on. We just dont bitch about it like many posters on here. And hence, are given a label. JMO

While you may not share your dissatifaction with the owner, it doesn't make you "right" or more of a "fan" than others who are upset. I find it comical that a few here have the audacity to question fans who are not happy about the direction of the franchise, including the embarrassing radio situation.

No damnit. I want MY team to have all those things. I want my team to be like a top notch NHL team. I want to be proud of MY NY Islanders and not be embarrassed by them when compared to other organizations. I'm a fan and I'm going to bitch until someone in charge of them gets it right, whether it be Wang or the next owner.

(Sorry Jerry, don't take it personally, it's not you, it's the team's ;) )

Jackace, PLEASE don't think I despise you or Jerry or anyone on here because we have different opinions. I do not.

If you read my posts, the majority are not disdain towards Wang and the team I love.
I've posted MANY "positive" entries about certain players and moves Garth Snow has made but I guess those don't stand because perhaps I too have been labeled?

I shouldn't have to explain this but feel it necessary. We all share a common interest/passion.
The New York Islanders. I don't consider myself more of a fan than you nor should anyone.

I read many entries from fellow fans and not just on here. Blogs, other boards and editorials etc.
The season hasn't started and we're divided more than ever.

Can we all try and tolerate each others passion no matter which side of the opinion fence we lean towards?

And no, it's not just this board...look around...there's alot of animosity on every Isles site.
I cling here because this place is HOME and it's because of each of you bastids whether you know it or not.

That includes you Jackace and especially you Jerry who I'm sure would much rather PMP to one of Tom's quips than reading our displeasure.

Let's all hang in there and at least try.

I've said it to you in the past and its worth repeating. We disagree more in the degree of our frustration...not the source of that frustration. And I'm not sure why you may think that I think that you dispise me. That thought never crossed my mind and I mean that  Many choose to vent and Gerry and I do not. Just wanted to clarify that I, we (oldie) are not singing Kumbaya because we dont get wrapped up in the bitch sessions here. But I still dont see many posters on here at all that are over the top optimistic about this team that have been referenced in other posts.

Is that truely the sense you get from me? You think I'm making those judgements?

And yet in the next sentence you make this judgement:

I find it comical that a few here have the audacity to question fans who are not happy about the direction of the franchise, including the embarrassing radio situation

Isn't that what a message board is, or am I being audacious, too?

I don't think the animosity has ever been this bad. And there has been some dark, dark times for this organization. This is the lowest I've ever seen it. It feels like D-Day is inevitable, even if it's going to have to wait until 2015. Nobody wants to play here, the fans aren't excited (as is evidenced by the 40% opening night price cuts), we have injuries, and we're being picked by every publication in the country to finish in last place in our division and by most to finish dead last in the conference. This organization needs to do something monumental to get its fanbase back, but it just never happens. This is the least excited I've ever been for a season opener.

And that something monumental would be a new owner, whether it be a new person buying the team or a Charles B.Wang acting professionally, spending to make the playoffs and get help for the kiddies or whatnot.

And a point: booing the owner or coach or whomever is not indicative of not being a fan. Those schmucks are not the team. No player is (sorry, Rick). The blue and orange will outlast the current personnel like it outlasted Milstein, Spano, Pickett, Muller, Sterling, Lavy, Curran, Yashin....everyone on up to Chuckles and his kid. I root for change, pride and success.

Well, at least I'm getting the change part.

Nickel and diming.

We have two words for anyone making that argument: Fenway Park. History says free agents would play in an old boxcar if they got enough money and had a chance to win." - Mark Herrmann

The 40% discount? You can walk up and buy tickets to any Devils game, including their opener, at 7:29 for a 7:30 start. Any game, including the playoffs. And they're perennial winners. We're in a recession or depresssion or concession or whatever so I'm not surprised. Attendance is down everywhere. Went to the first Giants game in their new stadium and there were 200 empty seats in the 300 level across from me and up one level. The Tampa Bay Rays have 10,000 fans for the ALDS. The Rags have more business seats than actual fan seats.

So, this is not the time or the year to be concerned about any deals or attendance. It is gonna be down no matter what we do.

Not to speak for oldislesfan, but I think he is refering to the constant negativity by some on this board that creeps its way into every topic. I do wonder if some of you get any enjoyment out of this team...any mention of the team makes you miserable. Sometimes we want to talk hockey and not hear how the sky is falling every second.

ahem....
yep. these indeed are dark days.

John Buccigross had an interesting question.
He asked where would the islanders play if the arena burned down? And why don't they do that.

And for anyone going to the coliseum this season to any game -- BRING CASH. I cannot believe how much they raised the prices on everything.

Besides the injuries that will make icing a winning team close to impossible, the prices not just of the tickets but of everything make going to a game more of a luxury than ever before.
