If anybody hasn't seen it, go on Lighthouse Hockey and click the link on the Gradner post where he had that hat trick against Anaheim last season. The kid has skills and he has some speed. We lost Okposo for 2 months minimum and Schremp for a month. We have nothing to lose.

That's all well and good and hope he turns out to be an asset.

"He's highly-skilled, a great skater and very creative offensively," General Manager Garth Snow said when reached by phone. "For us it was an opportunity to add a top-six talent and provide him an opportunity for that talent to flourish."

So highly skilled and such a great skater and so creative offensively that two teams let him go. Top six talent? And he falls into our lap? Are we that depraved in talent that he becomes a top six?(rhetorical, don't answer :bag: ) Call me skeptical. I'll get the scouting report from my sons when I get home.
I sold it all, retired and moved to Fabulous Las Vegas!

Potentially 3 Tambellini's floating around the ice with great potential to score 6,000 goals.

But I agree with Steve and others. Our small market team wont spend when the young core needs it most, so they will continue to take these gambles. Lets hope for the best. I have my doubts, but it would be great to see it actually produce.

You beat me to writing this. I'm highly skeptical of the top 6 talent line. Why would any team just flush a top 6 talent away... Unless we are so thin on our top 6, that someone else's waivers junk is our waiver gold.

This must mean Martin is not gonna get his chance. Or Nino.

NICE pick up!.

Kid's a project with talent, speed. former 1st rounder, same year Okposo was drafted.

Why not give it a shot. There were alot of teams looking to place a claim. Surprised Toronto didn't nab him.

Bring us your tired, your poor, your first round busts yearning not to play D.
It all depends on how they handle him. He may be an asset for the Bridge, or see the pressbox if he does not try to play both ways.

Just to clarify, it's not like Vancouver didn't like him. He was part of the Ballard deal. Maybe Florida really wanted this kid. Now, for whatever reason(s), it didn't work out in Florida. That doesn't make him a bad player or underachiever. There are tons of players in the past and present that have turned there game around when given a change of scenery. To say that 2 teams didn't want him would not be accurate. I don't think we'll be disappointed.

Boss, I read that the coach didn't care for his lack of defensive responsibility.
Some Panthers fans were worried when he was placed on waivers, others were indifferent because they felt he was one dimensional.

If we didn't put in a claim and say the Rags got him, we'd have complaints by some fans, including me. Again, if our "prospects" showed anything in preseason/camp, then I would have been confused by this but if you guys watched the streams of the games or went, you saw alot of under performing by guys who we all thought were better based on the write ups from team writer, blog boxers etc.

Is it the players fault or the team's player development or is it the "system"?
God only knows. Let the season start and let's find out what we have. I have a good idea.
But let's find out for sure.

The dude has speed and hands... if he can play along the walls then we may be able to live with some defensive liability (he's a wing after all). Consider it at the very least an interim replacement for Schremp.

**I'm just wondering how this will affect the cuts that need to be made today. Speaking of...keep an eye on the teams that are over the cap that need to move some salary by 3 today...this guy might be gone by then...ya never know.

Not so flattering quote from Panthers GM:
Quote:

- Winger Michael Grabner, who was waived by the Panthers on Sunday, was claimed as expected. He was awarded to the New York Islanders on Tuesday.

Grabner was thought to be a key part of the draft day trade with Vancouver in which the Panthers sent defenseman Keith Ballard and winger Victor Oreskovich to the Canucks in exchange for Grabner, winger Steve Bernier and the 25th overall pick in the draft.

“I was not surprised [Grabner was claimed], but he didn't have a very good camp and didn't earn a spot on our roster,'' Tallon said.

“I was disappointed with his play. He has a lot of potential but you have to earn your playing time here. Reputation doesn't mean anything to me. It gives an opportunity to someone else. We liked his speed and his skill. He didn't show any skill in camp. He can skate and has skill but didn't show any of it.'

Change of scenery- he gets a chance and if he really wants it he will have to show it. I think he has been tatooed with a big "P" and needs to shed the potential tag.

What the hell do we have to lose? Like has been said, dreams of top talent coming here are just that- dreams.

We will be young and hungry. We may sh!t the bed every now and then, but I get a feeling we will be fun to watch.

Let me remind everyone again- if we were all voicing our pissed off feeling because we put yet another 40 year old retread on the roster, then fine.

That is not what this guy is.

We can either be disappointed with him (and others) in the long run but I am fine with giving guys a shot to make it. And we will have surprises. Some good, some not. Would anybody be surprised if Moulson has a 15 goal season? How about if Nino put 25 in the twine?

What I'm saying is we don't know. The only way for us to look at this team is wait and see.

Yes. As long as he gets ice time, I expect 20-30 from him.
Yes. Tavares only got 24 last year.

Yes. Tavares only got 24 last year.

Tavares lost a ton of chances by getting knocked or falling on his butt last year. The numbers should climb with his added strength. Nino is bigger and stronger than JT right out of the gate...maybe he gets more open as a result thus more chances.

Exactly. What will be interesting is HOW we run this ship. I hope we give all of the question marks legitimate shots. But based on the way we've done things in the past I'm not sure that will happen. This applies to everything- line mates, ice time, pp, pk, matching lines etc. etc. Putting the right guys together and giving them the best chance to succeed is not something we've done very well the past 3 seasons or so.

It will be interesting to watch and read the posts here as we go through this season, thats for sure.
