I cannot believe Fowler is still available. Wow.

Someone will be very very happy. Maybe the canes take him.

really wish we could trade up

I agree...looks like they'll drop out of top 10 and maybe further...
Dallas may draft the goalie.

Do the Blues want to trade?

Rags pass on both Gormley and Fowler, which Fowler goes to the Ducks. How fitting!
If you see someone down on the ground, you lend them a hand. Unless they're a Rangers fan, then you kick them in the face.

So for two straight years the offers for Kaber weren't good enough. Is it possible that Burke is overvaluing his player?

Absolutely...I'm just being sarcastic. Burke is a conceded jerk (that rhymed) and would tell you that Vesa Toskala is the next Ken Dryden and you're lucky he's trading him to you for a 6th round pick.

and you know how much I hate to be an "I told you so..." :P

This is why I didn't have a problem with Snow RETURNING verbal shot at him last year when Burke was mouthing off about Tavares and Garth.

Burke loves the sound of his own voice. Plain and simple.

And if you want evidence that he gets a free pass from the Canadian press, here you are...

no one has asked the question...

"Brian, considering you have now dangled Kaber for two drafts, is it possible that the fact that no one has made a deal is evidence that your view of him does not match what other GMs around the league think of him?"

When has anyone asked him that question?
And people wonder if there is a Toronto ML bias in the Canadian hockey media.

By now, any professional hockey player wearing blue and white with a Maple Leaf on the front should know the hazards of job security in the Toronto market.

Just in case, Brian Burke hammered home the point with his trademark ferocity Thursday evening.

On the night before an NHL entry draft in which Leafs management must sit on its hands until Round 3 on Saturday afternoon, Burke made it clear that if any other GM wants to talk about any player on the Leafs roster, he’s all ears.

“When you finish 29th, your list of untouchables should be awful goddamn small,” Burke said over the phone from Los Angeles during a break from an NHL board of governors meeting. “We’ve gotten some inquiries about other players and right now what we are doing is listening.”

Mostly, Burke is listening to offers regarding star defenceman Tomas Kaberle, his prime asset in any pre or post-draft trade discussions. Kaberle’s no-movement clause expires at 7 p.m., on Friday, the opening bell for this year’s draft.

Unofficially, Kaberle has been on the market for several weeks now but over the past 24 hours, interest is intensifying.

As of Thursday night, Burke said the number of suitors from around the league had swollen to “double digits” and the GM was expecting two more teams to table an offer, joining the four others that have already done so.

“We knew we wouldn’t see the best cards until we got here and we won’t see the best cards until sometime (Friday),” Burke said.

Burke is adamant that he feels no urgency to deal Kaberle at the draft and that a trade could happen in the days and weeks after. Of course, other trade-minded GMs around the league may have moved anything that might interest the Leafs by then, so there is still a critical timing element.

“We need help right now,” Burke said. “For us (dealing Kaberle) is not draft specific.”

While Burke is listening intently, he’s not yet ready to bite. It is believed that both Buffalo and Los Angeles are teams he has received offers from but, if the number does indeed swell to six, he will spend much of Friday trying to sweeten the bids that interest him most.

“We’re not even close,” Burke told QMI in L.A. “I hate saying that because that could change in one phone call. Right now, nothing is imminent.”

Surely, Burke knows he will be in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons Friday night as the hockey world focuses on the first two picks of the draft. The TV cameras, not to mention an antsy Leafs Nation, will focus on the Toronto table on the Staples Center floor as Boston selects No. 2 overall, the pick they obtained from Burke in the Phil Kessel deal.

“Why would it be tough?” Burke said when asked about having to sit through Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli’s selection.

“It could have been my pick and I could have played all year without a 30-goal scorer. We made this deal and we’d make it again.

“It bothers (the media) a lot more than it bothers me. Everyone seems so worried about us getting back a pick.”

As it applies to Kaberle, it sounds like Burke views a draft pick as a potential bonus rather than a deal maker or breaker. If the Leafs are to avoid watching the Bruins get another high pick next year (when they also have Toronto’s first-rounder), the team needs someone to help Kessel start filling the net.

“That’s our top priority, to find a forward who can score,” Burke said. “A top-six forward and, if he comes with some size, all the better. If draft picks come as part of another deal, fine. It’s not a priority.

“We’re trying to get better right now. Draft picks don’t help me right now.”

I4C, I had all the respect in the world for him after what he did in tearing down and building up that Ducks team that eventually won the cup. He was credited with helping youth hockey grow in California and now there's many prospects coming out of that state. I know he made some poor moves after that Cup season and was eventually let go. But the "EGO" thing with him is beyond belief lately. Is it a ploy? Or is he trying to be the NHL GM version of lady Gaga with the "gotta keep myself in the news" antics.

I've read and heard many an interview with him from the Ontario news feeds and the guy, with all his hockey smarts seems to be his own worst enemy at times. I may rank on Garth Snow but at least he has the gumption to keep most info close to the cuff.

Burke made some good moves in getting Phaneuf and some others. But this media stuff using Kaberle to phish for trades is beyond old. We goof on Eklund and his moronic trade rumors. Burke is the Eklund of GM's right now.

I have to attend a college grad party today...hopefully my buddies and I can sneak away, inside and watch the US world cup game and rounds 2-7 of the draft while everyone else is outside.
Can't wait to hear 3 more Burke interviews.

For anyone interested, this website had up to date draft order of each round including trades and how teams added picks

http://www.prosportstransactions.com/hocke...Trades/2011.htm

Unfortunately, NJ gets to decide which year they will lose their first round pick due to the Kovy signing. I can guarantee you they will not lose this year's first round pick.
