Good points all, but I'm a little leery of Kabanov because he played in Juniors and then reportedly left his team just before their playoff to prepare to play for Russia in the U-18 tournament. Scary stuff--a player bailing on his team when they need him most. Most NHL GMs dread the day that they lose a talented Russian to the KHL. Seeing this one fly home already is sobering. Yup, that's why them call 'em wild cards. |

One can hope for a perfect scenario these next three days. Columbus beats the wings tonight they finish with 80. The florida vs Tampa weekend series ends up with both games going into ot, with each team winning one game. This would give both teams 79. Then of course the Isles lose both games and finish with 78. Draft pick order would be without the Lottery balls . 1: Edmonton 2: Boston (Toronto) 3: Isles 4:Tampa 5:Florida One can dream. |

Or we could screw things up even more and win the last 2 games. And that could put us in the 8th spot. Not good. |

Whatever happens, happens. Devils and Pens are both playing hard for top spot and pride so they have alot to play for. I just want to see our guys compete these next 2 games and if another situation like the Bailey hit from behind happens... I hope someone has enough balls to step in, regardless of the name on their back... you protect the name on the front. |

Well said Steve. I hope we finish in the bottom five before the lottery and move up a spot or two after the balls drop. That would be a nice finish to Rebuild: Year 2 |

There is an international controversy brewing around Russian prospect Kirill Kabanov. The 18-year old Kabanov was reportedly removed from Russia's Under-18 team that is set to compete at the upcoming U-18 IIHF World Hockey Championship in Belarus by head coach Mikhail Vasiliev due to lack of discipline. "I removed him from the team because we thought Kabanov would help us, but he brought only confusion to the team," Vasiliev told Sovietsky Sport. "Kabanov came and thought ‘Here I am, a star from Canada, who will save all.' But it's the team that wins rather than an individual player." Kabanov has encountered controversy virtually everywhere he has gone during his brief career. In 22 games this season with Moncton, Kabanov has 10 goals and 13 assists. He missed more than 10 weeks of the season after undergoing corrective surgery on his wrist, an injury he suffered the season before in Russia. He was also a healthy scratch during Moncton's opening-round playoff series against Cape Breton. http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=317308 |

MB22 is exactly right. And even if the team overperforms as Puck fears, and other teams (Atlanta and Carolina) win no more games, we're now guaranteed to finish no worst than eighth and pick in the top ten. Incidentally, the Isles team I watched at the Igloo last night did not look like a team that would win another game this season. C'mon Florida teams, play for pride. And salaries.

Columbus does not win, but they take the game to a shootout and earn a point. Isles cannot afford a single point in their remaining games. |

Gotta love seeing Florida's teams go to overtime tonight. Pens don't have much at stake tomorrow, but they'll want to go into the playoffs on a winning note after dropping a stinker to Atlanta, and Crosby's still in search of the magic 50. Wouldn't mind seeing us keep Crosby off the scoreboard but lose in regulation while Florida wins in OT tomorrow. The third spot would be pretty impressive after so many late season wins. The draft lottery would be a little more interesting at least. |

So far so good with my weekend scenario. However i really feel the Isles are going to win today. Pens may rest some of there players, and Fleury will not play today. Anyways let's hope for the best, and if we finish 6th then I hope Snow can manage to move up and get Fowler. |

Just out of curiosity, what would be the trade scenario that would allow us to move up? How many 1st do we have this year, just the 1 right? |

It's going to be an interesting day. I don't believe Pittsburgh will be resting guys today even though they have little to play for. They stunk yesterday and that's not a good way to go into the dance. They will be out to win today. And with Crosby in a the race for the Richard trophy, they'll be looking to get him a few goals. We need FLA to win in OT/SO and the worst we can draft is 4th. I'm leaning towards Gudbranson. He's a beast and he has the kind of character and leadership that the Islanders need. http://www.ottawacitizen.com/health/Erik+G...1429/story.html I'll be happy with any of the top 5 rated guys - Gormley or Fowler on D or Connolly to play the wing with Bailey or Tavares would be nice. |

Forget it. Nothing rhymes with Gudbranson. They won't draft him for marketing purposes.
