Ok, I'd like to speculate for just a moment.

Let's say TB comes to us and says "We want your pick. We'll give you Vinnie for it and x".

Or

Calgary comes to us and says "We want you pick. We'll give you Ignilia for it and x"

First question is. Would we want either of these guys?
Second is. What would "x" need to be?

I really think this is the year that Garth makes his move to get his man.  Even when we end up with the 5th or 6th pick I think this is the year that if he is targeting someone specific in the first 4 picks that he moves up to draft him.  He knows this team is close to being a playoff contender and wont have lottery draft picks most likely starting next season.  So if he wants to grab a specific blue chipper that he thinks will set us over the top, this is the year he will do it because its easier to move from 5 or 6 to 2 or 3 then it will be to move from a pick at 15-30 in the future.

moving up in the standings, at what price? comeau? nielsen? bailey? or kohn? streit? a draft pick?

no, i was thinking more along the lines of draft picks

Third question:

If I smoked x amount of x over x amount of time, could I remain x'ed all of the time?

I meant that "x" would be something else we would give with the #1 for someone like that, not 2 guys for the #1.

clebo, anytime a GM wants to talk you listen. You don't have to do a thing, but you always listen. If someone is coming to you with an offer, you must remember they are willing to give up a little more than what the offer is if they are approaching you in the first place, so listen, play it cool, then see how much more you could get if the original offer tempts you.

better then ex's

would do
1- win lottery - draft hall
2- stay at 5 and draft gudbranson

options
3- trade down to pick nino
4-make deal with edmonton- 5th pick and player for souray and either hemsky or horcoff
5- make deal w/ edm- 5th pick and player = prospect like toews or rahkshani for whitney and or hemsky or horcoff.

I'm just waiting for some brain to start screaming that Snow was an idiot for drafting Travres instead of Duchene.
I know there are some people here thinking that.

PS. we just gotta bitch about something

PPS. for some reason emots are not working

Born during the 1993 Stanley Cup. How heartbreaking is that?
I honestly see no need for Garth to try and trade up in this draft.

If nothing goes horribly wrong, and we do keep the #5 pick, we are going to get a stud. Simple as that.

The top five players are Hall, Seguin, Fowler, Gudbranson, and Connolly.
The three that most people are familiar with are the obviously the first three. stated above. But Gudbranson and Connolly are widely considered to be on the same level as Hall, Seguin, and Fowler. The only reason that the two aren't in most's consideration for the top three are because Gudrbanson, who many believe has more upside than Fowler, is not as ready to step straight into the NHL as Fowler is, and may require another year in Juniors, and Connolly missed most of the year with a hip injury.

When it comes down to it, there is no "miss" in the top five. I would be just has happy if we ended up with Gudbranson as I would be if we ended up with Fowler. I'm just a little weary of Connolly, because young players with hip problems is scary, especially with this organization's experiences when it comes to young stars with bad hips.

As long as we retain our #5 pick, I will be very excited for this year's draft. Whoever we add should be the last piece we must suffer to obtain, as I fully expect us to push for the playoffs next season.

And to make my current stance clear, as of right now, I want Erik Gudbranson. The guy has a bus-load of potential, and he's a great character guy. I believe he's going to be the captain of Team Canada in the upcoming Juniors, and he's got a great head on his shoulders.

Unless we get 1st pick, Gudbranson would be my first choice for all the reasons you stated.
