So I ask you all. Did you miss Trent Hunter? Does he add anything to the team?

I say it's time for Garth to try and move him. It's something I'd like to see, but in reality, would anyone take him as a fourth line PKer? Or has the NHL just become too fast for him. It's been downhill ever since his rookie season.
I sold it all, retired and moved to Fabulous Las Vegas!

He had a good 06/07 year, but other than that I don't even notice him when he's on the ice. I know there's other players who should be sent packing, but this guys been here for almost ten years.

He's done, IMO. Too slow for the new NHL, often injured and what can you reasonbly expect out of him? 4 or 5 goals? I mean, he ain't putting in 15 this year or any year in the future.

Move him, get what you can and move on.

This team is not better when he's on the ice and not affected at all when he isn't. Translation: he is irrelevant.

too slow...and he's probably done for the year with his knee injury. Frankly, I think his NHL days may be behind him

I sort of disagree with you guys.

Here's why.

His most productive years, his centermen were Peca, Scatchard and Sillinger.
Gritty, PUCK aggressive centermen with passing ability and the willingness to get body position and to sacrifice themselves to make a play.

Last few years? I know, beside the injuries and the constant "oh he's too slow" nonsense... (hello, check his plus minus against the rest of the team like the POINT PRODUCING players for value vs role)

Why? He's played with Nielsen. A decent 3rd/4th liner on a rebuilding team but not a guy with offensive upside because of his lack of grit. Not an excuse either. Hunter (this is an excuse) has played through injuries the last 2 years and that blame should be spread between himself, the coaching staff and our team doctors. I still admire him because through all that BS he still finished checks while guys like Nielsen, Tavares, Shremp and others puss out and stick check.

Now, his contract...2 Million? On a team with a REAL first line, a decent 2nd and a better 3rd line center...Hunter can and would produce supplemental scoring. But on this team? I'd much rather see him moved to his home province of Alberta to either the Flames or Oilers if they're willing.
His icetime could go to one of the kids because we need more scoring and Matt Martin more than makes up for Hunter checks in a game.
Problem is, he has 2 more years at 2 million.

He has not been the same since he got checked into the open bench door halfway through last season. Prior to that he was playing the best hockey of his career.

Not sure what happened but he has been a complete waste product since that injury.

My thoughts as well.

In addition, the guy is patient with the puck, a trait that is lost on many of the youngsters. I'd like to see him set up for success but yeah, not likely with this club. He would make a decent 4th line guy at this point in his career.

His demise started after the knee on knee hit he took a few years back. Never the same player, used to be so strong coming off the wall. I feel bad for him. He plays with inept centers most of the past few years. On a very good team, he's worth having on the roster. Then again, who really is worth it on this roster? Maybe five or six players?

Maybe five or six players?

And a lot of posters want to move those guys at the deadline for picks. Could we get a #1 for Tavares?

Remember all the people crying that we "had to sign him" and how dare Snow not sign him before the FA period started and all the criticism for going to arbitration with him? All we heard was...he's our next captain. Yeah...if you want one who can't stay healthy enough to play 40 games a season anymore.

Nice guy and a good effort guy, but he's broken down. His body can't play the style he's played for a prolonged period of time...

And we can't get anything for him. We'd be lucky to get a 6 rd pick.
